“This is not an army ready to fight” … this has been mentioned a lot recently by people like Col. Douglas MacGregor who pointed out the US has not fought any army that was able for fight back (eg. Iraq, Afghanistan , Vietnam) on similar terms.

People who trained and were prepared to fight and die to save the US were called up and sent to stupid wars like Iraq III and Afghanistan. They didn’t even call up the National Guard in Vietnam. A career soldiers expects to periodically take out the trash in the shithole world but the point of citizen soldiers is save the country when the shit hits the fan and to respond to local emergencies. Politicians have absolutely no respect for the National Guard.
