Perhaps, even the entire prairie provinces to achieving the self-government, the responsible government that another populist Metis leader started; one that led to the provincial status of Manitoba in 1870 and later to N.W.T. territories morphing into Alberta and Saskatchewan in 1905.
To the political Laurentian elite, the prairie provinces are still just colonials, still the North West Territories, not capable of actual self-government. Would not an Act of Clarity, actual sovereignty association finish the process began in the 19th and 20th Centuries?

Democracy has never been about freedom. The Founding Fathers of the United States of America were well aware of how Athenian participatory democracy and the Constitution of Solon of Athens worked, and explicitly rejected a democratic government.
“Democracy” is code for “mob rule”. That’s why the left loves the word so much. Like the tribunes of Rome, they’ve figured out they can make the plebs vote however they want them to.

The Founding Fathers had a point there which just makes their screwup wrt to structure of USG all the more baffling. ‘Democracy is mob rule, so let the mob directly elect the executive and have more elections for more than one legislative chamber, the bifurcation of which will leave the executive unchecked.’ They have way too many elections for way too many positions way too often. AGs should not be elected, nor should judges. Canada did this right where America did it wrong. No presidency! No (real) senate!
There’s a difference between “book definitions” of words … “common parlance” … and “distorted use”. Yes. America is a Republic … not a direct Democracy. Yes, because mob rule quickly morphs into a totalitarian State.
But in the common parlance … Democracy means “the people” elect their representatives. I suggest that is how MOST people understand the word. The Democrats are seizing on that naive understanding … and suggesting that Trump “extremists” have attempted to hijack that “Democracy” by questioning the highly irregular and improbable results of the “Democratic election” of 2020. Of course their narrative is absurd … but we aren’t dealing with a “book reading” public. We are dealing with a public that has only shallow emotional “feelings” and a vague understanding of the terminology hurled at them.
Freedom is built into our Democratic Republic by the Constitutional limitations on the Federal Government. The Founders knew the ONLY way to ensure individual Liberty and Freedom is to RESTRAIN Federal government.
Too bad Canadians could not read some of the posts about freedom that are here on a daily basis.

I like her message, I loved the freedom convoys and hate Canada and loathe Trudeau, but something about that woman makes the feathers on the back of my neck stand up. For those applauding her speaking ability, I’m an excellent orator and everyone loved Obama’s speaking ability but that doesn’t make me anymore qualified to lead anything or anyone than Trudeau is and we all know Obama’s epic failures.

Neither she nor anyone else here has any idea how ‘freedom’ works. No, you don’t have a right to block traffic and create noise for weeks on end in cities. A serious country would have subjected them to mass arrest and confiscation of their vehicles by military force. I’m inclined to think PM Freeland won’t have much compunction about doing what it takes if those circumstances repeat.

Unfortunately, the leadership predecessors of our serious country made the mistake of running down the Praetorians. The humiliation of the disbanding of our parachute regiment is in a direct causal line from the past to the current failure to mass arrest and seize property. Compare our armed forces in action, the Winnipeg General strike in 1919, a happy few decades of strike breaking through the 1920’s and 30’s, and now, nothing.
No. There is a way to end a protest when the civic authorities believe it has gone on long enough. It’s called an injunction. You go to court and argue for an end to the protest, and the other side gets to argue the opposite. The judge decides. If you violate an injunction, the court can levy huge fines. That’s the process that should have been followed in the case of Ottawa, and the city itself could have gone to court all on its own. No need for any “state of emergency”.
This is how it should work. However, if the courts are owned by the government and only deliver the results that the government demands of it, then the system is as good as dead.

Canada, if it’s fortunate, might be spared much more of the over rated ms Freeland.
