Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

The disease is everywhere and getting worse.
The disease is Progressivism (AKA Communism).
Get your rules off me m’aaaan … get your hands off me m’aaaan … it’s my body, unhh huhhh, I can do what I want! Get your puritanical religiosity off me m’aaaan!! I’ll screw what I want. Get your capitalist bullshit out of my life m’aaaan!! I’ll take what I want.
This is what it looks like when the radical leftists … who all became multi-millionaires … who went to Harvard (if not a tenured college professor) and live in a swanky midtown condo … turned their children and grandchildren loose to … tear it all down m’aaaan. The 60’s radicals GOT their quality American life back in the 1980’s … now they’re all dead or near dead (see: DC Democrats) and are stripping away ALL the cultural constructs that enabled them to live like kings. They are determined to FINISH Western culture. They are revisiting their broken youth on the young.
These people aren’t intellectuals (mayor Wheeler), they’re diseased mental patients. They not only lack common sense … they loathe it. They mock it, and call it “flyover” mentality. No, they take no responsibility for the carnage … because in their diseased minds it was all caused by Jesus and Capitalism. They’ve believed this their entire lives … if only people were truly FREE of The Church and FREE from The State (the old Constitutional State and it’s “white” Laws) … then Nirvana would emerge.
As it’s written on the boarded-up storefront … “we stand with our community”. Translation: “please loot and smash us last”.
They would be the very stupid educated people.
Portland sits on top of a dormant volcanic field. Which is, well, rather sad.
The dormant part I mean.
Just a few more rough patches for a little while longer and the socialist utopia will come into full bloom…
Excellent work by Portlandia..Or is that Shitholia West?
Given how insanely Woke Portland has become, how come they still use the “Colonial Label” of Portland?
Surely there is some imaginary “Native Language” one can invent to give it a “traditional name”,you know something that translates into “Where the Whitemen anchor their tall ships.
And other such delicious pun”Where the money is”..
Something Something Bridge, from people who never had seen one ..
But we need places like Portland, where the fools and bandits born into each generation can be banished to,if they fail to learn the Golden Rule.
Preserves just for people who have no other aim in life but to wallow in filth and prey on their fellow dirtbag.
But we do need to fence these “Reserves” off and allow free hunting in the Nomans Land between the perverse and the productive.
Yes every human has the right to chose such a life, but they have no right to impose the lifestyle or themselves upon others.
Portland, sure proof that Liberalism is a Progressive Disease.
Yeah, “progressives” always leave off that second word: Degenerative.
Liberalism is a progressive degenerative disease.
Actually we shouldn’t even call it liberalism as there’s nothing remotely liberal about it. Call it what it really is: Marxist communist totalitarianism.
Kevin comes so close, yet is so far away. He even admits it:
(situational awareness was not a strength of mine)
Living amongst the Democrats, but unable to connect the policies and the results?
The difference between my hometown, the Motor City, and Portland is that Portland’s death was intentional. Whereas Detroit was murdered by a perfect storm of crotch-kicks from the auto industry and a racist, corrupt mayor, Portland was killed by its own citizens and the Democratic Party.
Who does he think killed Detroit? IT WAS DEMOCRATS.
Who is Killing LA?
Who is Killing San Francisco?
Who is Killing Chicago?
New York Freaking City?
Yeah, I noticed that too. The difference between your hometown and Portland is no difference, Kevin.
West Coast Progressiveness:
From San Diego to Vancouver BC and possibly all the way to Anchorage..?
Talking of the Cascadia Subduction Zone..?
Big one is well overdue…
Said disease is not only restricted to the West Coast – Seems to me pretty much EVERY Major City in the US is run by the Democrats (aka progressive shitholes), as such, we may as well add Toronto, Montreal & Ottawa in that gaggle too.
Appears to be a city thing no..??
I used to follow a sewist blogger based in Portland. In the George Floyd aftermath and Portland riots, she posted the usual BLM boilerplate, like so many other lefty bloggers. Funny how those posts have disappeared from her blog.
That is what socialism/fascism looks like, without exception.
The downfall will take longer because the prior generations, based on free enterprise, produced so much wealth.
The corrupt politicians and the corrupt ruling class will take more time to squander, though squander it they will.
So thought experiment: what, if anything, could be done to salvage Portland? Presume that you’re the newly elected mayor. And to rein in the crypto-fascists, let’s also presume you’re bound by the US Constitution. So rounding up all the homeless and putting them in concentration camps, or stop-and-frisk, is not on the table.
What would/could you do to restore Portland to some kind of functional state? And what do you define as a functional state?
Not a trap thread; I’m legitimately curious whether it’s possible for a city the size of Portland to be past the point of no return, and if so what a sensible response to that might be.
Simple answer: Law and Order. Constitutional Law and Order. Break a law, break a window … get arrested … get prosecuted … get punished (jail time). No crime too small. Expand the police force. Expand video surveillance. Enforce loitering Laws. Stop and frisk.
There is nothing without Law and Order. Nothing.
And this is counter to my innate nature … I’m a Laissez-faire kind of guy. Live and let live with BIG WIDE boundaries … BUT … when an “open society” becomes a CRIMINAL society … the system needs to SHOCKED back to a normal rhythm.
Enforce loitering Laws. Stop and frisk.
These are manifestly unconstitutional in the US. So – honest question, I am not laying some kind of trap here – is it possible for a city to be so far beyond recovery that it cannot be recovered without instituting (effectively) martial law? I don’t think a mayor has that authority – I assume he would have to appeal to the governor for use of the National Guard or something. I can certainly see how constant rioting by antifa and BLM would justify the imposition of curfews and the use of the Guard to enforce order in the streets with military force if necessary.
Assume that the governor of Oregon is a Communist who hates you (because she is) and won’t mobilize the Guard. Do you still have viable options?
I do agree that increasing the chance of being caught and prosecuted, even if the resulting sentence is fairly mild, is the strongest deterrent to impulsive crime, but I’m not convinced it does much of anything for the homeless problem. It seems like Portland has two problems: a massive homeless problem, and that’s a tough nut to crack due to the individual rights challenges; and an antifa problem, which is the visible manifestation of a broader anarchist/Communist revolutionary ideology that’s probably metastasized in Portland. I’m not sure how many voters in Portland are actually pro-antifa, but there’s a rubric that says once 15% of the population wants a revolution, the revolution is going to happen because the rest of the population will mostly passively accept anything that goes down until it’s too late.
Stop and Frisk and Loitering Laws are simply NOT unconstitutional. Some … applications, which are vague and overly broad in definition and purpose have been found unconstitutional … however the Laws themselves have not been struck down. Under specific circumstances … both are legal. To quote PDJT during one of the debates … “you’re wrong”
Let me cite an example from my (sadly necessary) trip to San Francisco yesterday. I needed to visit a Benjamin Moore paint store at an outdoor ‘Japantown’ mall. The storefront was a little hard to find, so I had to walk through the parking lot looking for the store. At the central entrance to the outdoor promenade there loitered a rather menacing-looking black man (several black men) with his car doors open, music blasting, with no commercial purpose in mind (short of pan-handling). What made the men “menacing-looking”? Was it my “whiteness” that elicited a natural fear response? Hardly. The menacing part was the vicious-looking Pitbull the man had on a retractable leash. Yes … right at the central entrance to the outdoor mall … I had to navigate the man’s open car doors, blaring rap, and a retractable Pitbull he was releasing then retrieving across the walkway. WTF?! No, NOT my people. NOT behavior that would be tolerated for 10minutes in my lillywhite (and Asian) suburb.
But you know why Safeway (the anchor tenant) did nothing to remove this man’s menacing presence. Yeah … And you also know why property values have EXPLODED in my safe, lillywhite (and Asian) suburb. The lack of enforcement of “lifestyle” crimes has had the oh-so-predictable response … flight to suburbia. A recent poll (surrounding DA Chesa Boudin’s recall election) revealed that 70% of SF residents cited CRIME as THE major problem in the City. So, go-ahead, celebrate this man’s “right” to deploy his yo-yo Pitbull in the center of the shopping mall. When HIS “rights” trample MY right to a safe, secure, shopping experience … whose rights should prevail?
As I said … I am a far-more social liberal than my core Christian beliefs would suggest. BUT. There is NO excuse to allow this man’s OBVIOUS intent to camp out at the entrance to a mall with nothing but bad intent. You wanna exercise your Pitbull? Go to a dog park. Go to Golden Gate Park.
But the good news about my little trip to SF!? I parked my car TWICE … and it didn’t get busted into! :). Although the Japantown mall parking lot was filthy … and I had to dodge trash just getting out of my car.
Stop and Frisk and Loitering Laws are simply NOT unconstitutional
The police can ask you to stop and submit to a search. You can tell them to **** off. If they respond with any kind of pressure, or worse simply frisk you without your consent, that’s a stark and unambiguous 4th Amendment violation, simple as. Same for “loitering”. A law doesn’t have to be formally struck down to be “unconstitutonal”. There are plenty of unconstitutional laws and judicial decisions on the books; see Kelo vs. New London, CT for an obvious example.
Look, I’m not arguing that stop-and-frisk doesn’t work – it does, the results from NYC were unarguable. I’m pointing out that it’s a serious infringement on essential liberty. Yes, it stops crime. You know what else stops crime? Locking everyone in their homes and requiring papers to pass checkpoints within the city.
As for your unfortunate encounter with a thug clearly playing intimidation games – he’s on private property. The Safeway is well within their rights to eject him, to ban him from the premises, and to call the police and have him arrested if he resists.
If your argument is that neither the Safeway nor the police will do so because of politics, I wouldn’t disagree – but for the purposes of this thought experiment you’re the mayor and you decide what politics rule the PD.
Police have the absolute right to search your body … constitutionally … WITH Probable Cause. If you “look” like the description of a man harassing people with their weapon of a Pitbull … then you MUST submit to a search. If you think the cops overreached … then sue them for wrongful detention. But you absolutely CANNOT tell a cop to Piss off!
He’s gonna tase you bro! If you incorrectly assert your 4th Amendment Rights. The US Constitution is not a suicide pact … it allows Law Enforcement latitude to maintain Law and Order. We aren’t the United States of Anarchy … although ANTIFA has made it appear so.
