As the USA and Europe retreat from prosperity, India seems determined to overtake China, with a 400 million ton boost to coal production in the next two years, and a massive relaxation of environmental rules and other incentives to boost coal mining and industry.
Because they’re not stupid, that’s why.
Our politicians placed us on an ‘Economic Titanic’ and hit the iceberg and want us all to go down with them…

If the Greens are upset with India’s bold decision they have only themselves to blame. 30+ years of chastising FF development or use in LDCs certainly led to this outcome. How could it not? A state’s number one role is the defensive, economic or whatever security of its people. The Greens coulda embraced NatGas solutions but even that was too much for them. China and India will now be belching coal for the foreseeable future. Hopefully, their ambitious plans to rely on large stocks of dependable fuel stores will lead hundreds of millions out of poverty. And in the long run, less poverty is the key to a healthier planet.

India has a failed state on one border (Pakistan) and will soon to have one just across a thin stretch of water (Sri Lanka), and they’ve said “no” to exporting food during a food crisis.

Our leaders (and voters) are truly stupid.
– We know that overall energy consumption in the West is stable or decreasing (and energy efficiency increasing), and also that the environment is cleaner than ever (at least since industrialization started)
– We know that, in conjunction with the West’s increasing energy usage, its GPD per capita and life expectancy has increased dramatically, and deaths due to severe weather events is dramatically decreasing.
– We know that the BRIC countries (+ rest of Asia and Africa) need much more energy for economic growth (and for a clean environment); and they need low-cost, reliable, and planable energy; and then need this quickly.
– We know that basically all CO2 emission growth comes these same countries.
– We know that we do not want to be dependent on unstable dictatorships such as Saudi, China and Russia for raw materials and energy (and any other critical materials/products).
And, yet, what do we do? Close down our energy production, close down our industry, make ourselves dependent on unstable dictatorships… incredible.
(At the same time, our schools have forgotten to educate, and now indoctrinate instead. Which might explain our situation.)
The Creepy Little Dictator™ is going to shut down our clean industry here in Canada with his moron eco-taxes and move production to the coal powered factories in China and India.
