This evening we enjoy this documentary about Indian motorcycles. When my dad was in his 50’s, he had a mid-life crisis, I guess, and had a series of motorcycles. Fast forward, a good friend of mine in Vancouver, a public school teacher no less, has an Indian motorcycle and loves it. Whenever I come across an Indian dealership in America, I always stop in and buy him and his son some souvenirs.
Bonus: “Tax Me, I’m Canadian” isn’t limited to Canada.

Stop calling it a mid-life crisis. It’s when us dads finally got to spend our money on ourselves, for fun. No crisis involved. Call it a mid-life emancipation!
Yes!!
+++Bobby
Exactly.Crisis my ass.More like gratification long delayed, for the benefit of children who will never understand ,until they do the same.
Bingo, bobby b
At age 50 in 1999 I took up morotcycling, much to the shock and amusement of my tiny circle. E m a n c i p a t i o n – is indeed the right word.
Hmmm… No crisis or emancipation here.
Bought my first Hawg on April 28, just a few years back. 😉 I was 20 & wasn’t anywhere near ready for marriage, kids or the like. Never been without one since.
You bet. I’ve always driven sports cars. The other day a co-worker sees me pull in and made a snarky comment about mid life crisis. Why do people like these assume when you get married you have to buy a shitty minivan?
I’m still having fun with my 1966 Triumph T120C ..want to get a 1950 Triumph Thunderbird, just like Brando in the Wild One!
New issue of Poletical is out. Here are some top links…

There’s more at Poletical.
Some good points re Poilievre. If he can’t win as a conservative so be it, there’s no point to him winning as a Liberal. If the country has to go full Venezuela before people see the light so be it. I’ll order my affairs accordingly.
Soon as I read the guy took the shots to fly and had a minor heart thing, I stopped reading. Anyone that stupid isn’t worth the time.
Should’ve read the whole thing.
nope.
I think he is right on regarding Pollievre. Nice try but not going anywhere. Canada is dead as it is home to one of the world’s stupidest people groups. They got this way by sucking government tit for an income. AB and SK can escape by separation, but not enough are serious about that yet and will likely not be in time.
Things will have to degrade much more before independence is a viable option. Can we carve out Redmonton from Buffalo?
I think with the judicious application of some anti-union legislation, they’ll leave on their own accord.
Jeff -3 very interesting articles. As for the first one on Pierre, It seems to me after studying the convoluted leadership election process there is a better than fair chance he may not even win the leadership.
I read that piece about the airlines applying the flying restrictions and I have some comments:
It is not the airlines that are requiring a vax pass. After all, if I wanted to fly on BA, which doesn’t require a vax pass, to London, which does not require a vax pass to enter the UK, and especially considering that I have dual British/Canadian citizenship, how can Dear Leader deny me that flight? The answer is simple: no unvaxxed person is allowed in any airport building. You could make a similar argument to travel to, say, Mexico on Mexicana or to any other destination on that country’s airline.
This ban extends to any building at an airport, for example, check out this statement from the Canadian Aviation Museum in Windsor:
https://www.canadianaviationmuseum.ca/visit.php
Strangely, The Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton does not require a vax pass, but it does have a mask mandate.

Her Majesty Meghan Markle is, quietly, being cancelled by a Netflix that is hemorrhaging subscribers and market capitalization.
“Even Netflix’s in-house members of the Royal Family are not immune to a wave of cutbacks going on as the streamer recalibrates after a precipitous stock drop incurred after a drop in subscribers,”
“(The program) was due to be executive produced by Meghan and David Furnish, a filmmaker and Sir Elton’s John’s husband.”

Good new this, amongst lots of bad news elsewhere.

Best they can hope for is a reverse remake of the Beverly Hillbillies with woke ex-royals moving into a mid western conservative enclave and interacting with the country club set. Unfortunately Harry and Markle wouldn’t be bright enough to get the joke.
Re Indian motorcycles of old – likely will attract incoming
Herschel Smith in “A History of Aircraft Piston Engines” in the chapter “Lost causes, oddballs and unconventional engines” mentions the Alfaro barrel engine with the footnote
“Manufacture by Indian in 1938 was alone enough to guarantee failure. De mortuis nil nisi bonum* and all that, but Indian was in those late days the farthest thing from a precision shop that could be found this side of the steam-locomotive factories”
* Translated “Of the dead, [say] nothing but good” – and has no inferences re the modern endeavour
As a happy and “proud” custodian of a ’29 Indian motocycle” I take no umbrage at all. The Wigwam factory made many things some of which are truly obscure. If memory serves me correct I believe they may well have once even made/marketed custard powder.
I came across a Kawasaki dealer just north of Nanaimo. He has a collection of classic motorcycles. In his collection is an electric start Indian from the 1920s that was made in Canada. I had never seen or heard of anything like it.
As I recall he’s a friendly guy and loves to talk about his collection.
Watching BNN-Bloomberg this morning, and they showed an extended clip of President Biden telling jokes. Lots of laughter and applause from the Washington press corps, and some supportive words from the B-B hosts. Mr. Biden has lots of support inside the Washington beltway.
He needs a doctor not supporters.
Heh. Lol.
He needs a doctor and support hose.

Kinzinger is an insane RINO and let’s hope this doesn’t fly. Biden, anyway, isn’t sufficiently coherent to wipe his own axe, and presumably Republicans have no interest in endorsing him partaking in anything more lethal than that.

Tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes has acquired an 11% interest in an Australian energy company trading as AGL for $650 million. He acquired the interest to prevent the company from splitting in two companies, one to hold its major coal assets and the other to operate as an energy retailer. Previously, Mr. Cannon-Brookes tried to acquire AGL to shut down the coal assets in the name of global warming. Now he claims he doesn’t want the company to split into two companies because separately, the companies would be worth less and this would not be in the interest of shareholders.
https://www.reuters.com/business/cannon-brookes-seeks-115-stake-australias-agl-jpmorgan-statement-2022-05-02/
Look for more of this. Tech billionaires buying up fossil fuel assets with the hope of shutting them down in the name of global warming.
If you read between the lines AGL is splitting off its coal assets because it is harder to close down an entire company than to shut down only its coal assets. The split would provide a direct value for the coal assets. If shut down that value would go to zero and all employees would be fired. But if you were to shut down the coal assets from within a larger entity you could better hide the loss of the asset.
This hostile takeover attempt was originally made with Canadian partner Brookfield Asset Management. Since when is managing assets shutting them down?

P.S.
I recently found out that a membership to a certain BIG BOX store is $10 more in Quebec than Alberta. It’s probably because of hefty costs for translation services. It’s always the consumer who pays.
I sometimes wonder why I had to learn French in high school. For one thing, I rarely used it in the past 50 or so years. I’m badly out of practice, though with some exposure to it, I’m sure I could reactivate it, much like I did with my German when I had to translate some technical documents for several weeks.
In addition, we learned la français parisienne, which doesn’t seem to go very far in Quebec, as well as making us westerners stick out like a sore thumb. Every time I tried to watch or listen to Radio Canada, or try to follow a politician’s speech, they speak so quickly that I miss most of it.
I still use my German when I’m sending messages back and forth to my aunts, the sisters of my late mother. I admit that I use Google Translate to check my grammar, though I must say that the English translation sometimes isn’t very accurate.
I know what you mean. My ‘Français’ is terrible now, especially since I’m out West, there’s so little of it spoken here. Comprehension isn’t a problem, thankfully.
Otoh, accents are regional and always a source of ridicule. However, I found that the most tolerant towards Anglos were some of the New Brunswick Acadians that I met. In some cases their English was as horrendous as my French was, even though we seemingly, were extremely careful not to use any slang words in either language, as things do have a way of getting lost in translation. As a matter of fact, now, if I were to visit Paris, France I would speak English only and spare the embarrassment as I’d rather not let on that their irreverence towards me is understood.
Now, all these years later, though, I am glad that I took Latin in H.School, it’s most helpful, as you may well know in many ways, and I’ve come to appreciate the fact that I ‘suffered’ through it. Our teacher was right, (bla, bla, bla, yada, yada) “someday you’ll thank me”, she said.
My French education was limited to a 40 minute option opposite typing for a single semester in grade 8. Very much still in the, “Bonjour Monsieur Tibot” stage, as well as attempting to recall how to conjugate, “to be”.
Took Latin for a semester in university, actually enjoyed that. Ran across some church documents about 20 years ago relating to an ancestor in a genealogy search, weren’t written in English. Wasn’t really paying that much attention as I quickly scanned over the words looking for something recognizable, then hit “agricola”. Bingo!
With regards to my German, the phrase “mir fehlt die Übung” applies. I understand enough to get the gist of a conversation but I have a hard time following, say, the lyrics of a Wagner opera because of the obscure expressions that are often used.
Still, I can make myself understood, though I must admit that I’m a bit rusty.
Reading both German and French is less of a problem for me. Then again, I usually take my time when doing that.
I’m trying to decide if French is a sexist language that does not respect my pronouns. I just got a bill in both official languages. The English version starts with “Dear” but the French version is “Cher/Chère” – only the binaries are addressed. I may not pay my taxes. Do they have Internet in prison?
“Do they have Internet in prison?”
No but they have intercourse – supplied by Guido and Bubba.

“Many people are still blissfully unaware of what has happened, but the global food supply has been largely taken over by the oligarchs, including financial giants BlackRock and Vanguard.
It turns out that BlackRock and Vanguard have been gradually gobbling up ownership of the means of production, and now intend to lord it over the masses by centralizing all food production technologies in the United States and enslaving everyone under their control.
