March 24, 2022: Reader Tips

Tonight we learn how to make Polish cabbage rolls.  If you’ve never had them, you’re truly missing out.  If you know of a different recipe, please do share it.

Here’s a most fascinating interview with Romanian-Canadian trucker, Csaba Vizi.  It seems so darn obvious now why people who grew up under totalitarian regimes quickly understood what is going on whereas so many of those born in Canada are ignoramuses of the higher order who will never allow themselves to question anything from their “glorious” governments.

Mark Steyn mocks the latest lies the Woke Left insists we go along with.

Your tastiest tips are much appreciated!

    1. They do look good. But too bad she’s bought into the “healthiness” of low-fat milk products (sour cream, which then has added sugar), and that beef saturated fat is bad for you. Nothing wrong with olive oil (I get premium oil not available in stores and it’s fantastic). But I’d fry the cabbage rolls in butter, like she said her father did. Will try the recipe as her father made it.

  1. I have only had German and Ukrainian cabbage rolls. The first time I had the Ukrainian type it was a major shock. Thumb size and only rice inside.

      1. They’re stuffed with ground beef, at least the ones that Mama BADR used to make.

        1. 1. par-boil the rice before adding to the filling or it can be undercooked.
          2. mix rice and ground-beef (or ground-pork) as the stuffing.
          3. par-boil your cabbage leaves – makes them easier to handle and ensures they are nice and soft when done.
          4. cover all the rolls completely with sauce or the cabbage turns brown and hard.
          5. make the rolls the size of your grandmother’s closed hand.

    1. From Pot Luck Gourmet Supper Days:
Ukrainian: What she said, but instead: omit the ‘shrooms and tomato juice. Use Ground Pork, raw rinsed “Dainty” Rice (it’s a tiny sized grain– a must, no big fat rice substitutions) undiluted Campbell’s Tomato Soup 1-2 cans, as needed, between roll-ups. and on top before covering to bake.

ALSO: can substitute the Dainty Rice for Buckwheat (kasha) = I think pre-cooked. Someone correct me on this.

    2. They weren’t Ukrainian then, you’ve been had …..dumb Anglo as my Baba used to say!

  2. You forgot the part where our resident kielbasa diddling shirt lifter leaves each cabbage roll with his special cream filling because he could never find a boyfriend.

  3. This year’s big new word – “exacerbated”. The over-use of this word is just making things worse.

    1. Cute word play dude.

About 100 years ago I was describing to a couple friends one aspect of my father’s behaviour. One said, “Oh he procrastinates”. I said “well I dunno about that but he sure puts things off a lot”. Needless to say I learned the word real good.

  6. “From Veblen to Galbraith what has distressed the American critics of the free economy is not private property – which is the cornerstone of their own independence – but the private property of others. In recent times it is the spectacle of property in the hands of ordinary, gross, uneducated people that has troubled the domestic critics of American capitalism.”

  7. So, the Liar Kenney figgered out he was going to lose his ass in an even, in-person leadership review and, rather than extend voting hours, has declared the venue too tiny for the job, cancelled the SGM and wants to go to online & mail-in votes, all against the stated rules.

    Let the cheating commence.

BTW, there is still a current ongoing investigation about his last leadership kerfuffle.

  8. The ukes took out a ruskie warship. Bingo! If the news is to be believed they are holding the front and pushing the bear back to his den.

The ukes are taking out ruskie supply lines. It’s a conventional war to this point and the russians don’t appear able to fight a conventional war.

    Go ukes!

  10. Lets face it Russia could turn Ukraine to glass this afternoon.

A month in and the ruskies are having trouble. This was supposed to be easy for them, a 3 or 6 day war. Russian casualties are mounting. They are losing equipment. Lots of it.

Who knows what the truth is? Neither the russians or the ukes are known for their veracity.

Go ahead and cheer for Putin if he’s your guy.

    1. @abtrapper,

No cheering here, but no one can know the Russian intentions (3 or 6 day war) until the fat lady sings. Could everything be an oversight on Russia’s part? Sure. Could a protracted slow strangulation be another? Yes it could.

It all depends on the geopolitical chess game and how many levels there are. By many opinions, while the US/EU squeezes Putin with sanctions, Putin is building a new eastern global economy with little to no reliance on the US dollar. Could this have been his plan all along? Don’t know, but maybe. If so that takes protracted time, time for the west to bind it with sanctions and isolate Russia and friends – which is happening.

At the end of the day we all know how this will end, either Ukraine becomes a neutral country, or this will escalate to full blown global war. The neutral country option is the most reasonable, the sooner the better.

      1. Paul

You are correct nobody can know Putins intentions but most generals prefer a quick ending rather than a strangulation. Too many things can go wrong with an intentional delay.

Yesterday the ruskies released their own casualty numbers. It’s probably safe to assume they are under reported but using just the released numbers the death rate is in the same area as the siege of Stalingrad.

Putin has invigorated a moribund Europe. They are no longer quibbling about petty grievances, they recognize an enemy at the gate. Putin certainly miscalculated their response.

The russians got their noses bloodied in both Afghanistan and Chechnya. The ukes are emboldened and may not concede easily (although this is unlikely). In the end my guess is Ukraine will be a smaller, neutral country. If the fighting goes to the next level all bets are off.

    1. If Prinz Dummkopf had his way, everyone in Canada would receive one of them so that we can symbolically fellate him as an act of worship.

  12. Since some of the truckers convoy have several additional charges added, when is the liberal government going to man up and declare the Charter of Rights and Freedoms dead. Where are the lawyers who support free speech or freedom of assembly, Oh I forgot they don’t exist

    1. The additional charges have little to do with Tamara but are intended to emphasize that they will grind anyone who opposes them into dust. Desperate silly people. Except, the Genie is out of the bottle and is not going back. Tamara should be given the keys to the City of every City west of Kenora up to the Great Divide.

  13. Cristian Tehres commenting on the Great Divider at the European Parliament (albeit not a bastion of democracy) 23 March 2022:

“I refused to validate the imposition of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who gave a speech in front of the Plenary of the European Parliament on 23.03.2022, the reason why I was not in the hall when he spoke.”

You can’t come to teach Putin’s democracy lessons from the European Parliament, when you pass with horse hoofs over your own citizens who demand that their fundamental rights be respected.”

The difference between democracy and tyranny is not given by the geographical location of political leaders, but by the values that this promotes.”

The “West” is not a space of freedom as a geographical place, but as a civilization, developed as a result of the fact that, based on Jewish-Christian values (respectful that man was created in the image and likeness of God and was exposed, with a price of the blood of the Son of God, he built a society and a state system that has put in the center of HUMAN, which is/served by the state.”

The opposite of the “west” is not the “east” as a geographical place, but as a social and state order, which, based on Marxist philosophy, puts the state and its bureaucrats at the center, who are served by people.”

Or, when you, a political man from the “west”, implement at home methods of repression and violations of the rights of your own citizens, what do you ask for respected rights, as Putin does it at home, you are nothing better than him. Instead, to the tyranny you implement, you add deceit and hypocrisy, destroying the freedom and values of the “west”.”

These impostor leaders of the west today brought the world into the chaos we find ourselves in today, specifically because they moved away from the values that made the “west” a free and prosperous world.”

The “Cold War” was won not with weapons, but with the values of the free world. In short, freedom to break tyranny!”

The removal of western leaders from these values (individual freedom, respect for rights and freedoms, etc), but, not only did they make them lose their moral ascent, but they allowed the rise of tyrants like Putin.”
