Precedent has been set: Emergencies Act could will be used to ‘target’ Indigenous people
The Liberal government declared a national emergency in mid-February after passing the use of the Emergencies Act to break up the Freedom Convoy trucker protest in Ottawa, which was designated an illegal assembly. But Chief RoseAnne Archibald warned the finance committee use of the Act sets a bad precedent “far and wide” and its powers could be used as a “tool” against Indigenous people.
Yeah, about that. What did the federal government do with the railway blockades? Bring flowers and chocolates and treat the law breakers with kid gloves. So while I understand her apprehension, Justine doesn’t have the balls to do it.
But that doesn’t mean a future PM won’t use it against First Nations protests. It’s a “camel’s nose under the tent” situation.
She is just playing the victim card….can’t let the truckers be the only downtrodden ones. Must remind the public that the only real victims are Natives. Nobody else is as victimized as they are.
In the real world, this will never get used against them – they have already given lots more provocations than bouncy castles and noise, and all they got was maple syrup and sympathetic media coverage. Oh, and more money.

They will simply point to Section 15(2) of the Charter….commonly referred to as the Amelioration Clause…..that is, the clause that embeds racism into the Charter.

Many Canadians feel it was an appropriate use of the emergency act. When the Conservative government gets elected they need to use the emergency act as well. They need to use it hard and heavy against the first leftward or green protest/blockade. This will be a great teaching moment for our media, courts and judiciary as to why they need to defend people’s right to protest, ebmven when you disagree.
Agree,when real conservatives next form government,they will need to invoke the Emergency Powers Act to reclaim all the public wealth stolen by todays “Good Government”.
