    Regarding propaganda. Sure, there is plenty of it, and then there is smoke of war. Defenders of Snake Island were presumed dead, some (all?) eventually surrendered after running out of ammo. Not that border guards carry a lot of ammo. Probably just a couple of mags. And? Throughout WWII everyone thought that defenders of Westerplatte died to a man, turns out only 15 out of about 200 strong garrison died. But those facts were only discovered after the war, in the meantime their heroism was theme of songs and legends.

    Ghost of Kiev… Colonel Oleksandr Oksanchenko aka Grey Wolf was a Ukraine demonstration pilot. He retired in 2018. He returned to active service to defend his country in 2022. He died in combat over the skies of Ukraine when his Su-27 Flanker was hit by a Pootinista S-400 SAM on February 25. At the time of his death, he had six confirmed air-to-air kills and four possible. He was the first fighter ace of the 21st century. So yes, the Ghost of Kiev was very real. And yes, it may turn out that subsequent verification will suggest that his kill count was overstated. Find me a fighter ace for whom it wasn’t.

    Burning documents, of course they do. If they are worried that Russians can lay their hands on them, they will burn them. That’s what any sane person would do. You do not provide enemy with free intel. And you want them to dig into half burned papers of no value, just so they waste their time and will be less diligent in the future (unless you’re incompetent Siberian Mongol (but I repeat myself), then you talk over unencrypted coms or do not turn off transponder on a transport loaded with paras).

    Regarding Pootin’s ceasefire. Nothing reasonable about it. Maskirovka at its best. It simply says, Ukraine has to stay defenseless and then maybe Russians will not comeback. Sure, they will not.

    And it needs to be repeated again and again: russia was never in danger. Any danger. Russia has large enough nuclear stockpile that NATO can put all their forces right on russia’s border and it will not change a thing. They have nukes in silos, and they have nukes on subs, and they have nukes on wheels, and strapped to their planes. They have enough nukes to extinguish all life on earth over and over again. So they’re not in any danger no matter what Ukraine will do. They’re safe, all those around them aren’t. That is the only reason NATO expanded, because every new member wanted safety from russians not some paranoid WEF nonsense.* And Pootin knows it well. He does not fear NATO military action. Everyone knows that. NATO is refusing the implement a no fly zone over Ukraine despite being easily able to win air superiority, and mop Pootinsta air force from the skies and suppress their SAMs. Why? Because Pootin has nukes.

    Like I said, the Ukraine deciding its future, is a threat to russian interests, only if russian interest are to invade Ukraine in the first place.

    Also, how can one not get an aneurism when they claim that Ukrainians are NAZIs fighting for “globohomo???” Never mind that in newspeak “NAZI” = “far right” = “anyone not belonging to soft left, hard left or loony left”. Never mind progressives regularly chastised Ukraine for discriminating against gays (just run a net search for “LGBT Ukraine”). Aren’t NAZIs supposed to hate homos? Do people think they made homos wear pink triangles out of endearment?

    2. I’m glad we’re having this civilized debate, Colonialista. I appreciate your candor, but I wish to point out that I did not refer to the labs as “bio-weapons.” I merely quoted the news agency that did say that. Maybe they were propagandizing as well. Who can tell?
      You may not agree that there are no neo-nazis associated with the Ukrainians, but that does not explain the “blood and soil” flags I saw flying at the “stand with Ukraine” demonstrations. Our very own Fräulein got caught up being photographed holding such a banner, so much so that she had to have her tweet with that photo deleted.

      However, I will reiterate what I said in my conclusion… that there are no angels on either side, and that you should not take *ANYTHING* you hear at face value from either side.

  3. Diesel fuel price update. I got back to Edmonton from yet another trip to Fort St. John and I noticed the following along my route:

    Over $2.00/litre at the Flying J on the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek
    $1.80 at Esso on 120th Street and Highway 43 in Grande Prairie (up from $1.60 on Sunday at the same place)
    Almost $2.00 in Valleyview
    $1.95 in Whitecourt

    Oh, boy, are we saving the planet and sticking it to Putin!

        1. Driving the rig was a choice he made. He could have said he wasn’t comfortable, wanted more training, refused, whatever. Yes, there may have been consequences but would they have been worse than the current outcome? Years ago, in the construction industry, I noted more than once that I wasn’t comfortable doing something asked of me. I received more training, then went ahead & did the tasks. No issues.

          Or maybe not. In 50 years of driving I have blown through 2 or 3 stop signs, not one deliberately. Passengers kindly reminded me and wouldn’t let me forget. I know the one out in the boonies wasn’t but some stop signs are so heavily back lit by signage as to be barely visible.

  6. ALL CAN BE EASILY VERIFIED – NO PROPAGANDA HERE

    Feb 26 UNSC vote – 11 of 15 voted for action in Russia. China, India, and UAE abstained. Russia vetoed. March 2 UN vote – 141 members voted against Russia. Only 4 with Russia: Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea, and Syria. March 3 the ICC opened an investigation into Russian war crimes.

    Red Cross has publicly stated the Russian designated humanitarian routes were mined. Dozens of countries have placed harsh sanctions on Russia including many non-NATO countries. Boeing and Airbus have stopped doing business with Russia. Russian domestic carriers can no longer get parts for 75% of their airplane fleet. Georgia and Ukraine have expressed interest in joining NATO. Sweden and Finland are considering it given Russias belligerence.

    Russian equipment losses have been substantial including losses of 49 helicopters on the ground in a single attack. So much military hardware is being abandoned by Russia that Ukraine is gaining hardware. Some serious stuff too like TOR, TOS1, and T90 tanks. Ukraine has been shipped 17,000 anti tank weapons, far more than Russia has tanks. Bayraktars are wrecking Russian convoys. The drones seem to be invisible to Russian radar.

    The Russian ship “Vasily Bykov” has sunk. This is the pride and joy of the Russian black sea fleet. This is after a different Russian ship was hit on March 2, status unknown. Turkey has closed the Bosphorus strait to warships, so Russia had to cancel 4 warship transits and won’t be able to reinforce the black sea fleet.

    Two Russian generals have been KIA. The Belarus armed forces leader Victor Gulevich resigned citing “a high degree of demoralization” among the Belarus forces. Some defected to Ukraine in the defence of Kyiv.

    Ex military from all over the world are joining Ukraine including some of the best special forces snipers the world has ever seen, and Free Syria Army “tank killers”.

    Ukraine is getting the best Intel in any conflict in the history of the world. Meanwhile Russian troops are using unencrypted and non-frequency hopping transmissions. Regular Ukrainians are jamming them. The FSB is unable to use the encrypted ERA communication system that was touted for its durability. Their communications are also being intercepted.

      “Vasily Bykov” was a lightly armed OPV with limited capability not even a frigate. She was relatively new but nothing to write home about. Also there are two more identical OPVs with Black Sea flee. So not a pride a joy by any stretch of imagination. There are much more powerful assets with Black Sea fleet, including three new Grigorovich class frigates, an old but much larger Slava class cruiser and multiple Kilo class SSNs.

      Also most of the heavy gear that Ukrainians capture is not available for ready use, so they are not gaining hardware they can use now.

      Anyway, you’re cheerleading and picking bits and pieces that fit your theory and reflect what you want to see and not an accurate picture of what is happening. I have linked a balanced analysis video yesterday and two more few days ago. The situation is nowhere near as rosy as you report.

        You are 100% right about the ship, I may have got it confused with the other ship that was hit previously. It can fire kalibr missiles but it’s not a frigate or anything.

        I’ve seen several pieces of equipment that was immediately put to use by Ukraine. They paint all sides with a big yellow square. However, with the type of war they’re fighting not all Russian equipment is useful. There’s rumors the Russian ship was hit with Russian gear. They will certainly use the highly mobile gear that has a decent range and is powerful. MLRS for example.

        The point of the post was to provide undeniable facts for those in detail and cheerleading Russia for some bizarre reason. It was never meant to provide a full picture. The Russian war machine still seems to be awkwardly lurching forward. There has been counterattacks in the past 24 hours. I still think the Ukraine strategy is to let them overextended, then cut off their supply and steal their equipment.

      Again cheerleading. Bayraktars have proven very effective in early days. Less so now as Siberians appear to have got at least some of their shit in a sock and actually turned on their radars. They weren’t invisible to radar. In early stages Siberians did not expect they will need air defenses so the units progressed along highways without SAM support and SAM launchers followed in travel configuration. That is when the famous videos of Bayraktar engaging SA-11 battery on the road was filmed.

      1. It’s not as simple as turning on the radars. One expert on Russian military explained it as follows. Certain Russian systems cannot track slow moving UAVs. Ask the Armenian forces how well their Soviet era air defense systems dealt with TB2s.

        The Russians have more modern systems you say. You are correct. But the Pantsir and TB2 have been used against each other in many conflicts over the past decade. One problem is the TB2s ability to launch against ground targets well outside the Pantsirs effective radius.

        No doubt other systems like the S400 or even fighters in the air could engage the TB2, but that presents its own problems.
        The TB2 use hasn’t slowed down with the Russian advance. They just received a bunch more.

        Russia may have some success against the TB2 but the incredibly asymmetric nature of the TB2 makes it a battlefield killer. More than half of the Ukraine TB2 losses have been operator mistakes.

        We will keep seeing more TB2 videos. A couple of new ones today, but it hasnt been verified when the strikes actually occured.
