The Fog of Media

Matt Walsh- This is the early days of covid all over again. People are hysterical. Media feeding the panic. Lots of blatantly false information being spread around. You are expected to believe everything you hear. People who question the narrative are shouted down and shamed.

James Lindsay- I don’t know what’s going on in Ukraine right now, but I do know the news won’t help me understand it correctly.

UnHerd- Konstantin Kisin: Has the media got Ukraine wrong?

Audio only version of UnHerd

Francisco- The UnHerd interview with Konstanin Kisin is excellent. He admits he’s part of the alternative media which also by and large doesn’t have a good handle on what’s going on yet. But then goes on to give his own account of what he understands the situation to be, both on a micro and a macro level.  He’s a recent Russian immigrant and his wife is Ukrainian. “It’s not really about the Ukraine, it’s about you”.

  1. “…..but I do know the news won’t help me understand it correctly.”

Most accurate statement of the year.

      1. The above article has some good facts about Biden and his son Hunter and Trump sanctioning the Nord Stream pipeline (sarcastically noting the press had said Trump was in bed with Russia), and, Ted Cruz saying “The (Nord Stream II) pipeline was built to send gas directly from Russia to Germany, bypassing Ukraine and removing a source of income – as well as a strategic choke point – for the former Soviet state” but not all of their conclusions make sense.

      1. NME666
Read this earlier. Shocking and plausible.

US gave China info knowing they’d share it with Russia. Deliberately provoked invasion. Explains why.

    1. Paul – DARPA invented the Internet for a reason. We just have to know how to use it.

I believe this article from National Review:
      https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/why-the-russians-are-struggling/

They note how armour and infantry are supposed to work together:
Private First Class Dusty Ladendorf, one of the platoon’s riflemen, is less than a year out of high school. In an after-action review he makes this comment on the firefight: “You come out of the back of the track and just do it like you were trained. Execute your battle drill, take cover and fire, cover your buddy’s move, and move yourself when he covers you. Find the enemy, close in on him, and kill him. Keep moving and keep killing, until it’s over.”

  2. I don’t know what’s really going on in Ukraine, but I certainly know not to trust a single word coming out of the mouths of our Legacy Scumbag Media. CTH has had some good posts the last few days, and I thought the following sounds entirely plausible, especially when you consider how Dementia Joe and his crackhead son were personally profiting at the expense of the Ukrainian people:

“ In many ways Ukraine is a vassal state of U.S. leftist politics.

Ukraine has been a satellite operation for the U.S. State Department for approximately 15 to 20 years. The U.S. has held control over Ukraine, and manipulated every political outcome inside Ukraine, for well over a decade. This reality is the source of Vladimir Putin’s angst toward the west for the same amount of time, and it’s the same reason why the EU, specifically Germany, is tenuous in any collaborative response.”

    1. Can’t wait for Trudeau to announce taking in a million Ukrainian refugees to help fulfill his promise to take in millions more immigrants in the next few years……….waiting.

      1. *
        Some of the, well… nuances…

“Part of the issue may be that the Russian troops are conscripts, not highly trained. Many don’t know why they are there, according to the Solders’ Mother Committee. Several days before the invasion, Russian women began posting on social media that their sons, currently completing mandatory military service in the Russian army, had been sent to the Ukrainian border and, subsequently, had gone silent.”

        “LARD AND MOONSHINE”

“Locals claimed that Russian soldiers tried to buy lard and moonshine.”

        *

        1. There was a good documentary on RT a couple of years ago dealing with the reactions of the Russian kids doing their conscript service. 99% of them couldn’t wait for it to be over so they could get on with their lives. There were some who saw it as a career path, but the general opinion of the training officers was that overall, they were a hopeless bunch. I guess their youth are pretty well the same as ours. You want to see the dedicated career professionals, watch the May 9 Victory Day parades.

        2. My understanding is that the Ukrainians are also conscripts. I think it’s interesting that the President of Ukraine banned men aged 18 to 60 from leaving the country.

        3. “Locals claimed that Russian soldiers tried to buy lard and moonshine.”

I don’t believe it. If the story said that they tried to plunder and raped all the women and half of the livestock while at it then I would believe it.

      2. A million white Christian refugees who cannot be relied upon to be loyal Liberal voters for life?

        That will be the day!

      3. I’d much Canada take civilized, hard working, salt of the earth, Ukrainians that integrate seamlessly than illiterate turd worlders.

    2. Yep the Deep state in the US has made billions off the corrupt Ukraine machine, and Putin is fed up he wants some of that dirty money?

  3. It’s not “The Fog of Media”. It is the outright misrepresentation of media. Let me give you an example from NBC.

Russia and Ukraine’s conflict isn’t Biden’s fault. But many voters won’t see it that way. (That’s the byline of their article from 2 days ago).

That is hilarious in its own right…but in the article is this gem:

“Rising inflation and persistent supply chain problems are exactly what the Biden administration and the Democratic Party do not want as the midterm elections approach. Even though fault for this conflict lies much more with the Russian president than with Joe Biden, voters in the U.S. are unlikely to see it that way as many already hold Biden responsible for these problems.”

Gosh, someone want to pull out the graphs and show that the inflation started wayyyy before Putin’s little expanse made the headlines?

  4. The media is desperate to get Trudy’s blunders off the front page thus they spam us with war mongering propaganda. What I do know is Russia is tired of the Ukraine paying off the US’s deep state. The corruption coming out of that nation and it’s dirty money ending up in the swamp is one reason Biden is desperate to take control of the narrative using a corrupted liberal media to carry his propaganda. I think Russia’s ego got the best of them, the people of the Ukraine are fighting for their nation and not cowering in their homes and that’s what the Bidens wanted them to do.

    1. I don’t pretend to know all the ins n outs re; Ukraine & Russia. I do know that during WWII Many Ukes were more than willing conscripts of the NAZI’s…But today & Regardless of all the Media Propaganda from one side or the other.

This however is in yer FACT: We are being led by utter Mewling whiny WEAKLINGS

      Biden went home to Delaware.
      Trudeau went into hiding.

Zelensky is on the front lines.

      End of story…

      1. After what russians have done to Ukrainians in the 30s one cannot blame Ukrainians for making a pact with the devil.

  5. All I know for sure is I have work colleagues in the Ukrainiane and in Russia and it’s kind of awkward. The Ukrainians have evacuated their families but must stay behind and fight. Making payroll in both countries is going to get pretty tough soon. I’ve heard stories of absolute chaos and gut wrenching accounts of saying goodbye to wives and children.

I know globohomo is on Ukraine’s side but I don’t think we should reflexively back Putin here. This is a completely despicable act of aggression that will cause disastrous hardship and death for innocent people both Russians and Ukranians. NATO should begin flying weapons and supplies in. Tell the Russians the flight plans, escort them in and say if you shoot it’s on.

    1. Fair. Especially because of the Mass Media Propaganda machine in overdrive again/still.

They’ve honed their “skills” through the last few years, OrangeManBad, Grandpa Joe, Covid kills everyone, and now, Evil Bastard Vlad.

What we do know, is that, as said above, the Ukraine is a thoroughly corrupt country, via continuous US manipulation for over a decade. We know the US has vast “secret” Biolab operations throughout Ukraine, Vlad can’t be happy about that. We know THE BIG GUY, as VP, was busy corrupting the country “What do you know, the SOB got fired!”.

We know the Ukes have neo-Nazi army groups…….funny that. Real Uke Nazis GOOD, imaginary Canadian Nazis BAD.

We know the Media is bought and paid for by leftist fascist gubermint.

Sorry, not picking sides here, but the Ukes aren’t the good guys either.

      1. Your average Uke citizen is not the bad guy. They are collateral damage in all of this. Seeing thousands die for whatever reason is not good, no matter whose side you are on. Lots of expendable pawns on the table.

        1. That’s the reality. In all wars (physical, economic, cultural), the average citizen is acceptable collateral damage for TPTB.

        2. I would say that about both sides, of course. There’s no indication that the Russian genpop want this war, and certainly the Ukes don’t. The one possibly unalloyed good about social media may be that we’re hearing muted voices of the genpop on both sides saying “Not our war.”

Our leaders are massive, multi-national disappointments, and our world’s going to see years if not decades of unrest and upheaval because our leaders have demonstrated themselves to be feckless, manipulative incompetents.

          Yay us.

        3. Nini – Same goes for your average Russian citizen caught up in this mess. They’re probably wondering, along with the Ukrainians, how the hell did this happen to us. I have friends from the Balkan Wars (Sarajevo). They tell me they were just as bewildered at the time by the chain of events that led to them having to flee their homes and turned friends & neighbours against each other.

          1. “Same goes for your average Russian citizen caught up in this mess. ”

No it does not. A typical russian is a vile beast that will accept any humiliation and will worship its tyrant if only said tyrant will let it off the leash every now and than. That is what is happening now. Not exterminating them with nukes in late 40s was a greatest crime against humanity.

      2. “We know the Ukes have neo-Nazi army groups…….”

Greatly overblown significance by Pootinista propaganda. By the same logic you can say “we all know US has KKK”

Also some of those alleged NAZI groups were sponsor by Kremlin to make Ukraine a legitimate target. Look up Maskirovka.

      1. Interesting cultural issue in the Ukraine is that they consider Russians to be a minority group. It’s actually the manufactured fundamental basis that Putin is using for the invasion. He wishes “to protect” that minority group. I think the second biggest minority group is Romanians if I’m not mistaken.

  6. Konstantin Kisin hits it out of the park. He’s entirely right; this is about us and the consequences we will have to live with for generations.
It’s about us and the weak, decrepit leadership we choose. Putin could do this because predators always go after the sick, weak, lame.
It’s indeed about us and the stupid, self-defeating decisions our western societies have made for the past 30 years.
It’s indeed about us and the fact that having “70,000 followers on Twitter does not make you right.” Tank shells don’t get stopped by twits and their tweets on cellphones.

    1. cgh
I am game to try that out.
“Tank shells don’t get stopped by twits and their tweets on cellphones.”
We could line up all our twits and tweeters ,to test how many it takes.
Just like using old phone books or ballistic gel.
There is a fertilizer shortage you know.

      1. I like that experiment. It might finally be some actual practical use for the Twitterverse and its resident Twits. In the very old days, one tested the quality of a sword by trying to break it on the anvil. This is simply a modern version of an old useful method. Since we both agree that a heap of dead Twits is no real problem for anyone…

    2. 100% – all the worlds predators see us in the west as fat rich lazy targets.

From Islam to “economic refugees” cutting in line across borders wearing fake Rolex watches. China and Russia want their cut of the loot, while our own elitist predators are tying desperately to horde it with more martial law style restrictions before someone else takes it – or the general population wakes up from their delusions.

  7. Putin is no dummy and knows he is risking absolutely everything, so the question is why is he risking absolutely everything?

Why today and not 6 months ago?

It does not seem like a smart play to me, and Putin is a chess player.

He cannot spread himself too thin.

I think something pushed him to make this move.

    1. Not so. He was intending this for at least the last eight years. The timing was essentially identical to that of the Socchi Olympics in 2014. And like the seizure of Crimea, he has China guarding his back.

It’s the return to the empire of Peter and Catherine the Great, which Lenin and Stalin bungled away.

    2. He is risking everything because he has no choice if he is serious about Russia’s survival.

Putin has accepted that mothing but the expropriation and annihilation of the Russian people will satisfy the Empire of Lies. Better the Empire die than Mother Russia. By far.

Putin may at first have thought the Empire was bluffing over Ukraine—so did I—but Zelensky and his backers have clearly decided to spill as much Russian blood as they can, and blame it on Putin.

You would think they were the sort of unsporting chess players who prolong a game in hope of their opponents’ doing something really stupid.

Because ultimately, they cannot actually destroy Russia without destroying the Empire. Putin, if he must, is well equipped to vaporize every “diverse and vibrant” urban cesspit in the West in a matter of hours.

Lock him out of the global banking system? Can’t do that if the global banking system no longer exists.

      1. Oh great Konni sobered up enough to write the usual load of bullshit after another night of consuming Stolichnaya and remembering how much fun it was before his wife left his impotent ass.

  8. I see Putin has a real enemy in Nazi George Soros… Soros is “standing with Ukraine”… now I understand why my neighbor from the Ukraine is glad Putin is attacking… he tells me Ukraine is as corrupt as Canada and hopes this will end the Globalist reign in Ukraine.

Hey, if you have George Soros on your side then maybe you’re on the wrong side.

  9. The more „established“ alternative media types like Konstantin Kisin get, the more they apparently mimic corporate media arrogance. I cannot imagine that there exists an „aboriginal“ European who „has never seen Ukraine on a map“. And unlike (new) media metrosexuals, I would be perfectly willing to fight and die for the liberty of Lithuania and Estonia. I wouldn’t know how to live with myself if I wouldn’t and it is in my opinion not only cowardly and treacherous but also unbelievably stupid to tell the Russians (or the Americans for that matter whose support we expect) that we „Old“ Europeans would not honor even our most basic NATO obligations. I left the SPD because Schröder did not support the Iraq war, if Germany will betray Poland or the Baltic States, I will go and fight there as a private citizen. I will not let politicians and cowards besmirch my personal honor.

  10. The only things that lie more than the media are politicians and militaries. Maybe multi-national corporations are in the mix. I forgot Socialized Medicine leaders. They’d lie to St. Peter at the Gates of Heaven. Cops wake up with a lie on their lips and probably tell 1000 a day. Then there are 99% of religious “leaders”.
A lot of media fog is their utter ignorance combined with their elevated sense of importance.

These days the truth has never been clearer: the liars are pulling the levers and until they’re decapitated, us little people are f*cked.

  11. The ukes were enthusiastic supporters of the nazi ‘final solution’. They took initiative without coaxing.

This is a civil war. Internal politics. The eurotrash is not willing to risk much for their uke neighbors.

Any money Canada sends over there is immediately stolen.

  12. We have to be cautious not to go too far down the shining path of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Yes Putin is anti-globalist, but perhaps for limited reasons, and not for the reasons we are anti-globalist (I would venture to say most of us are anti-globalist because we don’t want to be herded like sheep by people stupider than ourselves; Putin has that same impulse but also doesn’t want western concepts of individual liberty to invade his own form of coercive centralized government).

Whatever the merits or faults of Zelensky, Putin has crossed a red line in sending his armed forces into another sovereign state with the expressed intent of regime change. If he had limited himself to beefing up the local control in Donetsk and Lugansk, then it would have been tolerable, but this is clearly intolerable and very dangerous. Globalism has a partial hold on all NATO countries except a few, but there are older traditions still respected, one of which is the concept of mutual assistance. This will kick in the moment that Putin miscalculates anywhere else in eastern Europe.

Those who are going to tie themselves to the mast of “anything Putin does has to be better than the globalist empire” will go down with that ship if Putin makes a mess of this, just as anyone who said in 1941 “I support Hitler over Stalin” would have found himself very isolated despite the limited logic of that position. As to whether either position is absolutely correct, well that is up to God, not us. This is why it’s handy to have the out of simply not trusting any earthly princes. But in taking that refuge you more or less give up on choosing sides. When an invading army is in your city then you pretty much have to take sides if you intend to go back out into the world when it’s over. And you can choose very badly.

  13. EoN
If things get real ugly, like say ruskie soldiers raping women and killing children I would think this might be a provocation the west wont ignore.

That said, many a mistake is made in a war theater and the truth is rare. There is also the possibility of a false flag.

This thing could spin out of control in the blink of an eye and it’s 1939 in Europe.

    1. Nobody is raping women or killing children or destroying civilian infrastructure but the Nazis.

They know they can’t beat the Russians in a fair fight.
Kiev will be secure by Monday, in the worst case scenario. So, the Nazis are destroying everything of value as they retreat towards the EU border.

They’ve just blown up an oil and gas depot near Kiev, poisoning the air for miles around. Don’t be surprised if they engineer a meltdown of one of the local nuclear power plants.

Burn everything to the ground, and blame it on the Siberian Mongols. That’s all they’ve got.

      1. “Nobody is raping women or killing children or destroying civilian infrastructure but the ….”

        … Siberian Mongols.

Like they always do. They don’t know another way. A human way is beyond them on the evolutionary ladder. That is why courageous Ukrainian patriots are fighting the Mongols on every street corner.

        Idi nahuj Konni.

  14. Suicide of the West (Biden Edition)
Regardless of anything said in the media, simple mathematics makes it obvious that Biden has done everything in his power for Putin to be able to finance this military assault.
Russia exports 5 million barrels of oil a day, and Biden’s actions (principally) have increased the price of oil by $45 (US) a barrel since his anointment. So Russia has an additional $225 million per day to support Putin’s priorities.
