  1. All the stupid woke commercials these days are enough to make sensible people want to puke!

I try and avoid the products with these advertisements. I note that Rebel News was turned down
for a mortgage by RBC (even having qualified!) on account of their being ‘controversial’. Really??

    1. It’s important for me to know that AAA is excited to provide roadside assistance to same-sex black couples. They advertise that on a continuous loop.

You have to wonder about CEO Ed Stack’s business acumen, making a decision like this on such short notice without investigating the opinion of their regular customers. With over 800 stores, they conducted a “test” of halting gun sales in only ten stores, though the article doesn’t mention where those stores were located, and sales went UP 3%.

I will hypothesize the test stores were in “progressive” areas such as Oregon and California.

In the end,it is a colossal management fuckup, resulting in massive layoffs after only three years of the new policy.

    1. Can’t find it now but I saw an article that alleged that Dick’s lost $250M in revenue following the decision. Now, corporate retail is not so simple as A -> B, but at the same time gun sales were booming elsewhere. Also Stack is apparently no longer CEO so perhaps there was a shareholder revolt.

There is a legal concept called “fiduciary misconduct” where someone in a position to significantly affect a business can be sued for willfully taking action that harms that business. It’s almost impossible to win because no one wants a precedent where executives can be scapegoated for bad company performance, but boy does it seem like it applies here.

    2. Well … if even ONE high school life is saved …
Ed Stack received something greater than a $ quarter Billion in sales … he received the admiration of all his woke cocktail party patrons.

THAT, my friends, is his business acumen

  3. I love it.
Of course these self styled “Leaders” never suffer much from their own idiocy.
Somebody should suggest “Corporate Responsibility,Shogun style” to the idiot.
    Lets see.
Deranged Nitwit buys gun from store, uses gun in criminal activity.
Store owner decides he is responsible for how buyers will use these tools..
Declares store will no longer sell these tools.

But if the Owners really felt responsible, would it not be better to do something useful?
Something that does not layoff 40 000 staff?
Something that solves the owners guilt complex forever?
    Like a short sword?

  4. In related news, Nikon stopped making and selling riflescopes last year because it didn’t want the optics (pun intended) of catering to hunters to damage binocular sales to the European tree-hugging/hiking crowd.

I now rue the day 4 or 5 years ago when I bought my Nikon field glasses. And I’ve told every hunter I know, so that they can boycott the gutless bastards too.

  5. It’s a generation thing too.
A mechanical contractor family business taken over by son was run out of business in about 5 years. Business suffers no idiots.

    1. Yup. The youngsters in the Eaton family ran their store into the ground more than 30 years ago. Similarly, Woodward’s, a department store that had outlets in larger cities in B. C. and Alberta, went belly up in a similar manner.

      1. Correction: Eaton’s went out of business in the late 1990s, while Woodward’s closed its door in 1993, a few months after celebrating its centenary.

        1. I recall reading, at the time, a comment attributed to an ‘unnamed senior employee’ about the brothers who ran Eatons into the ground, “Three boys, (or maybe it was four?), one brain”.

          1. Gee, that sound like Maggie and Pierre’s kids: Larry, Moe, and Curly.

    2. How’s that saying go? Oh yeah: “Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations.”

      1. The first generation builds it while the second generation is maturing. The second generation lived through the leans times while the first was building. However, it he second generation kept it going restraining because it knew about the hard times and what it was like. Unfortunately, we be second generation usually shields the third from suffering. The third generation never knew about or suffered the tough times and doesn’t recognize it is crashing until it is too late.

  6. When Dick’s was in the process of removing guns from its stores, I removed myself from their stores as well. I haven’t been back since, and I used to buy sporting goods and clothes and things like kayaks from them as well. Now other retailers get that business, and I smile every time I drive past one of Dick’s stores with a mostly empty parking lot.

  7. I swear my local Canadian Tire franchisee is one of those woke arseholes. Hardly ever has ammo in stock and if, by chance, there is any they want to record your name, PAL (which they have to) AND ADDRESS (which they don’t) into a binder which is easily accessible. Nothing like keeping a log of who has what firearms in town. The CT in the next town over always has lots…I only buy 22LR and SG shells from them anyway…and don’t ask for an address.

    1. Dano

My CTC here in Ontario used to have a decent assortment of rifles and shoot guns. They were all removed a year or so ago. I was in there in the fall and bought the last 3 boxes of 308 they had and shelves were not being resupplied. Chap told me when stock gone that would be it. The area will most likely be filled with more sheite from CCP slave labour camps I suppose.

    2. Our local CT has LOTS of guns and ammo. People call in from all over Canada as well as the USA to buy from this store. MEC (no local outlet) is running into trouble because it sells only to the woke crowd. I hope it goes down in flames.

      1. Yeah CT on McLeod trail in Calgary has a large gun rack and the staff to go with it.

MEC went broke and had to liquidate to some US firm.

  8. Going from $500 mil profit to $250 mil profit is not “losing $250 mil.”, it is, in fact just the opposite of losing $250 mil, ie it is making $250 mill.
Gillette lost no money, Coca Cola lost no money, etc, and you can be sure that parent companies, where they exist, certainly ain’t losing money.
    Hollywood is still solvent.
Very large organizations can afford to spout woke crap, as has been amply demonstrated.
