National Post-Canada’s maple syrup producers tap reserves to address global shortage
The Canadian group Quebec Maple Syrup Producers has announced it is releasing about 50 million pounds of ‘liquid gold’ — close to half of its pool. Quebec provides close to 70 per cent of the world’s maple syrup, with its biggest client being the U.S.

From the description of the article, I was sure this was going to be an Onion parody digging at Biden for releasing 50 million barrels of oil from US reserves.
“That’s why the reserve is made, to never miss maple syrup. And we won’t miss maple syrup!” Helene Normandin, the Quebec Maple Syrup Producers’ communications director, told NPR.
Even after reading it, I can’t help but think that someone was pranking NPR and the Post. How the hell do you manage to keep “strategic maple syrup reserves” without it going rancid before shipping? Is our maple syrup so processed that it doesn’t spoil? Pancake lovers want to know!
If the syrup is kept in closed containers it will last indefinitely. It’s only after air gets at it and it’s at room temperature (or warmer) it will start to develop mold. Refrigeration will also preserve it. If those reserves are kept in airtight, refrigerated vats they’ll be fine for a very long time.
Jeez…bite me. Is this for real?

Thinking it was probably satire and not wanting to waste any time verifying it, and wanting to avoid potential embarrased, I demurred.
I did chuckle when I read that it was a pancake topping: not in most restaurants it ain’t, tho the better ones will make a tablespoon available for a buck.
Also if memory serves it mentioned 50 million pounds suspiciously like Baiden’s 50 million gallons.
Wouldn’t surprise me if true.

We should be used to liquid gold in this country. Prinz Dummkopf has been showering us with it ever since he first took office.
The day will come when the CBC will be telling the praises of Dear Leader for increasing the maple syrup quota to 25 grams. Although some disloyal miserable will seem to think it was 50 grams a week past.
A few years ago the Canadian Forces was ordered to buy a boatload of maple syrup from Quebec. Must have been for “strategic” purposes too…
They are going to need to release 50 million gallons of KY soon, given the way us regular folks are getting….. umm…the shaft.
I have to wonder what kind of dilemma this would be if we were talking about an Alberta product. Pretty sure we all know that this would never be a news worthy story if it occurred anywhere outside of Quebec. The Princess Province must always have its welfare ensured by federal government policy and oversight. They already have the dairy cartel, the pork producers cartel, and the maple syrup cartel. They always seem to have the inside track on government contracts and procurement agreements, Bombardier and Lavalin are only the tip of the ice berg when it comes to Quebec favoratism.
