Does anyone know what the method is for determining a viral genome and how long it typically takes? Because they are doing it awfully fast or so it seems to me, given that they didn’t have, by their own admission, a full sample of the original alpha strain in order to create the PCR test currently deprecated. Just sayin…
It’s particularly interesting to me to see how much the Delta clade has out-competed every other strain/clade; the ancestral strain is essentially extinct, and yet it plus its early variants are mostly what the mRNA vaccines are designed to express the spike protein of. One might hazard a guess that, going forward, unless the mRNA vaxx designers are going to use the latest strains of Delta to build their booster shots, the boosters are going to be nigh-on useless.
Silly me — I meant nigh-on biologically useless; I’m sure there’s plenty of political uses for the existing boosters.
Original Antigenic Sin would suggest that Omicron-specific boosters will be mostly useless as an immunization tool anyway. But as you said, this is all about politics and control, not immunology.

This is a perfect way to cover the damage being done by the vaccines.
