      How you can blame vaccinated people for the current state of the FDA is beyond me. The article clearly addresses why the FDA has become useless – a combination of many things but mainly a shift in funding from the government to industry (cost recovery), a culture of avoiding controversy (a loss of mandate), and total lack of oversight by the Federal government (a common theme these days) has turned the FDA into an expensive rubber stamp. Again, how did this become the fault of those who chose to become vaccinated?

    The Death of Expertise

    A very old expression is “Familiarity breeds contempt.” I’ve seen this at work in various situations. I know that the bumbling TV husband who is a public success and a private idiot finds a lot of head nodding agreement in wives. Father Knows Best was a sarcastic slur with no real attempt to hide it. I’ve seen a lot of husbands who succeeded in the job or business and once they had a measure of success their wives never wanted them to ever take a risk or change jobs because they suffered from imposter syndrome by proxy. How could this person who would put the milk in the cupboard and the cereal in the refrigerator ever run a large complex business? It was obvious his success was from the hard work of employees that she never saw do anything stupid. It was undoubtedly luck and why chance luck not striking a second time?
    Parents similarly have contempt for the ability of their children. No matter if they are forty years old when a parent gazes on their offspring, they still see the eight-year-old who set the garage on fire or tried to bath the dog in the washing machine.

    My own parents were a product of the 40s and 50s. They simply bought the whole package that college educated people were not just better informed – they were actually smarter. Just like your close relatives, this lack of contempt is only sustained in the absence of intimate knowledge. They never saw a doctor who was not wearing a lab coat with the stethoscope badge of authority hung around his neck. Their lawyer was always in an expensive suit that fit, behind an impressive desk with diplomas in a row down the wall.

    The first hint a lot of people got about the validity of these models was from the explosion of college attendance. They found that their obviously idiot offspring came back from collage dismissive of their parental authority because they were now college educated. That wasn’t what they expected for their hard-earned money.

    The walls really came down around authority when news of movie stars, politicians, and captains of industry weren’t buffered from the public in movie house news reels but could be captured anywhere by cheap movie cameras and they were forced to be extemporaneous on live TV. Deceptions like hiding Roosevelt’s polio injuries and JFK’s bad back became very difficult.

    The expansion of recording to video cameras and security systems was unstoppable once they became cheap and standard for business security and in almost every pocket phone. That once posted to the internet, such recordings were archived, meant the age of the slick denial was over. The spectacle of people denying recorded statements and contradicting themselves multiple times has reduced the expert to being too well known by the public to expect credulous respect from any but the dim witted. They make statements so convoluted and irrational that people of merely average intelligence share looks of astonished disbelief.

    They still don’t get it. The political campaigns, TV news, and advertising still operate on the basis of treating everyone as if they are fools. When this doesn’t work, they would never consider the radical notion of dealing with the brighter side of society with candor and respect. I’m not sure they even believe such a mass of people exist, nor would they know how to adjust to such a new world.

    The truth is, in our current technological economy, the unsung experts are many. Trying to impose your will on them by threatening their jobs and freedoms is going to have a nasty end. Government economists can be wrong time after time and they are still employed and granted respect.

    But the boiler operator and utility workers who keep your lights on have to be RIGHT. The people who run your sewage plant don’t have years to test an unworkable theory and abandon it. They get it right today or you can’t flush your toilet in the morning.

    I found out that academic experts often can not deal with the realities of life. I still remember finding out a teaching professor with a doctorate couldn’t follow the directions on a can of frozen concentrate to make lemonade. Yet they contemptuously think a trained monkey could do that which they never bothered to learn.

    These experts full of complicated philosophies and theories can’t drive a truck to your neighborhood store or fix your leaking faucet.
    Over the next few months if they exercise their power to remove the best of those who make all the gears of civilization turn, the machine will stop. They can’t just take another interchangeable minion off the street and turn them into a meat inspector or an elevator repair man. Everything is interrelated and it has gotten to this state in motion. There is no plan for how you start it back up again when it fails.

    It has stayed working despite constantly added rules and fragility, not because of it. Thousands of individuals made adjustments to rules or circumvented them for the best motivation of all – their own success – not central planning. The ‘leaders’ have demonstrated they don’t have the wisdom to run this complex from above with the supply train crisis. It isn’t just the port of LA or Long Beach that must be corrected. It’s every step and all its support equipment that has to work in harmony from the plant in China to the store shelf in Topeka.

    I think it’s too late, but at least know WHY it broke.

      One look to California Trucking regulations along with their Federal counterparts ais an excellent example of the above….oh, and I heard from a reputable source, the chasis’ said containers ride upon are in extremely short supply….another nail in the coffin so to speak.

      As to a “College Education” 100% oversold IMO. I am certified tradesman in Ab…after 6 yrs, went to SAIT graduated with honours…in an Engineering field. I will say, it did enhance my career. But when I read from Guys in the US and hear what folks are paying for a single year of College education…its absolutely insane.

      My two years 1984-1986 cost me 9,000. CAD.

      The planet has a DISEASE as far as ‘education” goes. Its Called Credentialism – where a pce of paper saying you went “here” is worth more than a person with 10 yrs ACTUAL EXPERIENCE….and its always some smart ass who

      I noticed that while I was a grad student. I often encountered engineering professors who had absolutely no idea of what happened in industry. I doubted that any of them were ever out in the field, worked in a design office, or were ever on a shop floor. Yet, because they had the 3 magic letters behind their names, they thought they were a higher form of life.

      Part of that attitude is a result of one of the biggest mistakes ever made by academe. Some 40 years ago, university engineering departments started hiring their professors directly out of school with no industrial experience whatsoever, because, I suppose doing something “vocational”, which might involve getting oneself dirty or possibly put one in physical jeopardy, was something to not only be avoided but held in contempt.

      I’m sure that was one reason I was turned down for the university positions I applied for after I got my Ph. D. I spent several years “out there” before I started my doctoral studies which, I’d guess, was sufficient grounds for being disqualified.

      Oh, well, their loss…..

  12. From the “you couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried” file, Edmonton and Calgary recently mandated that speed limits in residential areas should now, by default, be 40 km/hr maximum, unless posted otherwise. Guess what the real reason is, and it’s not safety:

    Personally, I welcomed the reduced speed limit because I tend to drive slower in residential areas with my truck. A vehicle that size is larger and heavier than my car and should some neighbourhood kid or, for that matter, house pet suddenly dart into the street, it’s much harder to stop.

    But the reasoning is beyond idiotic: Slow traffic down to combat Climate Change.?? Uh nope. If anything it will enhance it – longer driving times – the longer your engine is running and you will in fact use more fuel.

    1. Earlier this year, I had the emission control system taken out of my truck. I kept getting a “Check Engine” light and it was narrowed down to a faulty oxygen sensor by a dealership.

      I spent a lot of $$$ to have that done, but my fuel economy improved. In other words, I had to burn fuel to reduce the emissions produced by burning fuel. Logical, huh? How about not burning that extra fuel in the first place?

      I don’t know any diesel pick-up owner who likes ECSs or who still has them after the warranty expired.

      As for driving through residential areas, when I arrive in and, later, leave Fort St. John, I take one of the dangerous goods routes near my house. The trip’s a few km longer, but I don’t have to drive through a residential area.

        EGR…right.?? or maybe that dastardly DEF stuff.?
        Anyway, I had my egr mine removed about 8 yrs ago at same time put in EFI live and PPE exhaust manifolds (“near” headers)…I also noticed much better mileage.

        It never made sense to me to re-inject exhaust into my air intake clogging it up & reducing the available amount of O2 for combustion.

        All good. Exhaust is pretty much straight piped and only have the resonator left….kitty is long long gone….and its still quiet.

        I have noticed at least with the Duramax line that the earlier the model, the better the mileage….seems inversely proportional to the amount of emissions crap. So that in the end you burn more fuel to go a set distance.

        1. Mine used DEF. Unfortunately, that system didn’t work properly, either.

          First, I trashed the pump soon after I inherited the truck, not knowing that the tank could only be half-full during winter. (The heater, apparently, wasn’t all that effective.) Then I noticed that the DEF gauge seemed to be continuously stuck near full.

          That’s when the dealership suggested that I have the ECS taken out, lest my truck become a garage queen. (That may be why my father remarked about it, “Ach, I think I bought myself a lemon.”)
