Blog Notes

Some of the language being employed in the comments is getting out of line.

Be warned that I don’t give many warnings. Sometimes none.

For those who insist on continuing with pointless personal attacks and profanity, just know that I have the technology to click “all” on your entire history of comments here before reaching for the nuke button.

That is all.

  1. Well said. We live in tumultuous — even frightening — times, but there’s no excuse for ditching our civility.

    We’re the good guys, remember?

  2. Kate, good call.
I was thinking about this very thing yesterday, remembering your laying down the law even on F bombs which admittedly are not really as bomby nowadaze.

No question it has gotten out of hand.
It’s poor PR for the SDA.

  3. Excellent! Some (a lot) of the antagonism directed at other posters was simply out of the blue and totally unwarranted.

  4. Have no doubt some federal government lackeys are accumulating all the vitreol as evidence for the coming crackdown. Indeed, they may be contributing to it.

  5. Thanks Kate. I have thought the same in recent times.
I was always proud that SDA seemed civil, reasoned discourse, etc. But some people seem to have trouble keeping the language clean. If they have to go, just go for it!

  6. SDA is always the first blog I go to everyday. It Also has the most class and is the most interesting. This is a great reflection on Kate and speaks volumes. She is one classy Lady.

  7. SDA is always the cherry atop my news and information blog daily reading. I love hearing what other (mostly) Canadians think of the goings on in our complete waste of a government. Keep up the fine work, Kate.

  8. Oh yeah… this has always been a source of class and sophistication. With comments of utmost intelligence and culture from world travelers.

Nothing but the best from Alberta and Manitoba.

  9. Good call. May I also suggest a limit of 2 posts per thread. If you can’t make your point with a defense in 2 posts maybe you shouldn’t bother posting.

  10. Thanks for the Warning.
    Sorry if I have sinned.
    For I recall my mother’s wisdom,that profanity is a sign of a limited vocabulary…
And we of English Speaking world were gifted with a language of massive flexibility.

However we are becoming meaner and nastier by the day.
Stress does that and when you are surrounded by people hysterical with fear, you can lose your way.
    Point and Grunt.
Does not work well in a written format.

Thank you Kate, for a small island of sanity in this time of madness.

  11. Hat tip, Kate. Thank you.

Ad hominem attacks and foul language are a sure sign that that person’s position is so weak that uncivilized behaviour is their only response.

A solid position requires no justification, only the education of it.

Just remember that in a passionate topic full of garbage such as climate change or Wuhan facts do not matter.

  12. Kate;

Let me personally apologize for my recent (today) increasing potty mouth. I need to use more ‘reason’ and less ‘epithet’. I have let frustration and emotion control my recent comments. It all started when BIG TECH and BIG Leftists stole an election from The American People.

I used to be so affable … right, Nancy? I promise to return to my affable self.

  13. Thanks, Kate. Whenever my American, British, and Antipodean friends want to know what’s up in Canada (and they do), I direct them to SDA, and particularly the material you post in your own name. Nastiness, venom, and gross profanity in the comments insult both the readers of the comments and the person who posted the item.

  14. Yes.
    I am guilty.
I will endeavor to write prose that is worthy of Conrad Blacks’ Seminary of English Literature.

  15. I agree withthe vast majority of posters on this thread. Watching some of the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, and the taped videos of the mob confrontations, one is struck by the mean-minded profanity coming from the rioters. And much smaller Rittenhouse side only responded with calm words, and friendly gestures.

Conservatives ought not to mimic leftist demonstrators.

  16. Thanks for the heads up. I commented a few weeks ago by quoting a, profane, statement from a poster held by someone in a photo that accompanied the blog post. My comment didn’t make it through. I couldn’t figure out the problem so I tried again, nothing.

It’s a good rule. Not a fan of attacking and vitriolic comments.
