In the Beginning…

There was nothing. Then some stuff happened.  Eventually Small Dead Animals came along…

Surprise: the Big Bang isn’t the beginning of the universe anymore

This new picture gives us three important pieces of information about the beginning of the universe that run counter to the traditional story that most of us learned. First, the original notion of the hot Big Bang, where the universe emerged from an infinitely hot, dense, and small singularity — and has been expanding and cooling, full of matter and radiation ever since — is incorrect. The picture is still largely correct, but there’s a cutoff to how far back in time we can extrapolate it.

  1. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

The rest is technical detail nobody needs and no sane person ought to care to know.

    1. Amen.
The search for life on Mars baffles me when they cannot accept the origins of life on earth.

      1. The human body was not evolved or designed for space travel or visiting other planets.
Space sickness is evolution reversal as being close to our planet surface helps us absorb nutrients our confined bodies need.

      1. Human Imagination created many things including the concept of God.
No actual figure exists in real life. Just the faith based concept, religion.
I believe Jesus existed as a person persecuted for being different and having followers to his different perspectives.
That’s what usually gets you killed by people wanting to hang on to the corruption around them.

        1. You are correct in judging religious concepts to be “of the human mind” but the question then extrapolates back to “What is the human (or any conscious creature’s) mind?” Where, we must ask, does information come from – given that brains are sort of electro-chemical computers? Does any computer make discoveries?

When we consider that choosing between options can be traced back to the quantum level (ie. binary, this or that) the question still remains, “Why those choices and from whence?”

It is as impossible to trace mind back to an origin as it is to nail the exact cause for the universe – and there we choose to say “The Creator” or “God” made it all.

          1. Our governments and politicians created boundaries in knowledge and so has religion.
So many areas of knowledge are ‘not allowed’ to be researched, discovered or even discussed.
So, you totally fucked trying to show other people anything not approved by our government politicians.
Such a fascinating highly comprehensive complex system of interactive multitudes of systems in a decaying environmental system of evolution.
And NOT a cycle system as our politicians teach as rotating systems slows and distances from the Sun increase by our exhaust gas trapped planet. This also generates the friction needed to create an orb shape planet.

      2. Atheists posit that there was always matter in the universe, and from matter, chaos created order. Of course, that’s a mathematical impossibility, but there you go. Their best efforts to support Darwinian Evolutionary Theory have failed, destroyed at the hands of DNA research, super computers and advanced mathematics.

        https://claremontreviewofbooks.com/giving-up-darwin/

Christians posit that there was always God in the universe; and He created matter, and from matter, He created order. Both positions require a leap of faith – one to posit matter, the other to posit, God… but a Christian’s view is more logical than an Atheist’s claims. To whit…

If you were James Kirk, and your Enterprise crew had just beamed down to a planet, and the first thing you saw were thousands of buildings, ten, twenty and thirty stories high as far as the eye could see, with roads and highways serving them, would you glance at Spock and say, “Look what chaos has created,” or would you immediately realize that it took intelligent beings to build all that, and you’d better get ready to meet them?

I have that same feeling when I watch the sun rise in South Park or the Sierras, and am awed by the beauty and wonder of nature created by the God of the bible, and am thankful that I am ready to meet the One who created all this.

        It’s your choice.

        1. “Atheists posit that there was always matter in the universe, and from matter, chaos created order..”
          I’m not an atheist.
That being said, modern cosmology does not posit that there was always matter in the universe; rather it posits that a very high vacuum energy state decayed into matter.
Current dark energy measurements suggest that the current low vacuum energy state (10^120 times smaller than the initial state) is enough to make a soup of thermal photons at a temperature of about 1 000 000 degrees.
Also, the thermodynamics of very far from equilibrium systems (like the Earth/atmosphere/Moon/Sun system) allows for the spontaneous development of what are called dissipative structures, which are local decreases in entropy, made up for by a massive increase in entropy of the whole system. This is why, for the last few billion years, the entropy at the surface of the Earth, and indeed now beginning to extend out into LEO, has been steadily decreasing, while the entropy of the the entire system has been increasing, and at a much faster rate.
The “Tornado in a scrapyard” argument is pure bunk, and appeals mainly to those ignorant of thermodynamics, who, sadly, make up the bulk of the human population.

  2. “Instead, cosmic inflation preceded and set up the Big Bang, changing our cosmic origin story forever.”

And all along I thought it was “Bideninflation” coming from the Federal Reserve Singularity that caused endless money! 🙂

In the beginning was cosmic inflation, or alternately “In the beginning

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” Genesis 1:1

One attempts to answer the question: How?
    The other answers: Who?

    Both very interesting questions.

    1. My point exactly, Hans.

The Good Book focuses on what human beings actually need to know. God made Man, not the other way around.

    2. Infinite regression posits the INFINITE or GOD in some circles.
This is not contradictory, but rather complimentary.
Where physics/cosmology meet to compliment theology.

Of course the extreme atheists will yell HERESY! 🙂

  3. What caused the big bang? The big suck that came before it.

    /thatsmystoryandiamstickingtoit

  4. I’m sure that Prinz Dummkopf will insist that the Big Bang was the act which resulted him being conceived.

    1. BAD, I think the big bang that caused the Turd , would have been COLON sex, I know that’s a shitty thought, butt it needs to be considered.

  5. I say codswallop. I love astronomy and stuff and have a reasonable layman’s understanding but I break with the dogma at the assumption that red shift is due to doppler. From there, it could be anything, it’s better to just say “We don’t know yet” and do more measurements and testing of theories, rather than attempting to prove them.

    1. I agree as to the “evidence” for an expanding universe. Sceptical instincts kicked in at first mention of the distance-speed relationship and I, too, remain unconvinced. If an isotropic universe has elements that are more distant and receding quicker in inverse proportion to time, why not assume that Earth is the center of the universe and its point of origin?

Basing cosmological studies on the apparent red shift is like loosing the dogs of government policy on the perception that disasters will ensue from a flu or from changes in global temperature.

    1. So God wasn’t alone, he had angels and Lucifer to keep him company?

Sorry, just being a pedant. We shouldn’t treat these stories as anything other than that; still a good story.

      1. No Robert, “we don’t know when”, but the Bible does say the angels were created beings, so that must mean He was alone.

        Psalm 148 Col 1:16

And sorry, no it’s not a good story. Can we call it a theory like your surmising?

      2. 2 Peter 3:3-7
        (3)  Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
        (4)  And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
        (5)  For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
        (6)  Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
        (7)  But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

        2 Peter 3:8-9
        (8)  But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
        (9)  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

  6. The thing about this is that anybody and everybody can create their own theory and nobody or everybody are wrong….
So here is one, in the beginning there was 1 (one) and from then on there were more and more and now there are billions and billions, as Sagan would say ever so confidently.
    Even trillions, even gazillions.
How do you like them apples?

    1. That’s true… because nobody on the left wants to hear the answer. Which brings me to the ‘experts’ question.

Almost every piece of Flight 187 that got blown out of the sky leaving NYC was recovered and assembled in a monster hangar, and after tens of millions were spent, and half the ‘experts’ on the planet pored over it, at great expense to the taxpayer, the party line is that they have no clue what happened to it… I’m sorry, but I feel they know quite well what happened to it, but don’t want to embarass our Muslim guests with the news of their findings…

Their brother ‘experts’ can dig a dinosaur’s tooth out of the ground in some African wasteland and consruct a beast that might never have lived (right around funding time) and/or dig up an Arctic grave and create and entire civilization, but the best and the brightest either can’t give us answers to everyday questions, or our government has decided the ‘little people’ would be better off not knowing the truth. I believe it’s the latter.

Governments weaponize ‘science’ and ‘expert’ advice and consider the citizenry mushrooms, who are to be kept in the dark and fed excrement.

  7. Calculations for size of the universe and movement of galaxies doesn’t work based on gravitational influences – dark matter.
Calculations for the expansion of the universe being completely wrong, that expansion is accelerating not slowing down – dark energy.
Calculations for the age of the universe based on the big bang theory combined with dark matter and energy don’t work – dark time.
Settled science-oligists could learn something from cosmologists who use proper science that follows the laws of physics – they aren’t sure.
Not really because they’re science fiction writers and political scientists rather than actual practitioners of science, climate or otherwise.

  8. .

The book of Genesis nails it … !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And did so 4000 years before modern science.

Modern secular science agrees that at the “big bang” …. SPACE , TIME and MATTER came into existence . The creationist would agree only we do not call it the big bang..

And Genesis lays it out perfectly ….. God first created SPACE and MATTER and placed the distant stars way out in the universe …. he could do so in an instant because TIME did not yet exist.

Then he created TIME ….. and he called it DAY …. the FIRST DAY .

AND TO THIS DAY mankind anchors all his timekeeping in this thing called DAY
    DAY is a bible word.
So is ETERNITY … which denotes a dimension without time before TIME was created

It also explains why distant stars seem like thousands of light years away …. and indeed they are to us because we rely on the speed of light for measuring …. whereas we could very well have a young earth and young universe when we consider TIME came after the stars were placed.

I tried to be brief . thank you.

  9. I was only about 8 years old when I realized the religion based answer was nonsensical since when u ask where did the universe come from the answer was god created it and that was not an answer at all because it just kicks the can down the road to where did your invisible friend come from which generates a lot more nonsensical weasel wording & word salad non answers.

Re the universe, my physics prof (Moffat) at U of Toronto wrote this book when he retired … not all the answers to all the problems but a good discussion of where the physics may be headed …. good at least IMHO https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinventing_Gravity

I loved physics but soon realized my math aptitude was way too weak to ever get anywhere and so a geologist I became. Play nice folks 😉

A final thought …. Hawking said “the universe is not only stranger than we imagined but it is stranger than we can imagine”. At very large scales and very small scales all the processes we see at work everyday go to shit …. think quantum mechanics. Don’t hurt ur head trying to answer the unanswerable or quantify the unquantifiable.

    1. Your mathematics wasn’t the problem.
Our scholars and theorists professors were wrong and full of shit.
So, they made mathematics in their fields to complex to follow and decifer.
Really? An opened ended calculations like pi(3.1419 ) that is used a multitude of equations.
It’s just slightly okay. When used in motion, it gets distorted greater and greater.
Remember, this is an open ended circle.

Are the schools going to state that they made a mistake?
Hell no. They’ll just keep going like our politicians do today.

      1. One problem our planet has always had was an overpopulation problem until man decided to harvest species for profit.
One area never in discussion is our planets massive water loss to space over our planets history.
The assumption was always landmass was here from the beginning and rose from the ocean by volcanic activity.

That assumption fails to take into account where oil and ocean salts were created.
Going back in history, if you add vastly more water, salt water, then you have a process of evaporation and the odd space debris strike carving some of our planet.
Crystallization of sand is by massive pressure of volcanic activity in a cold environment making fine rock particles.
Our planet species adapted to overpopulation by adapting to the land as water loss occurred.
More and more complex chemicals changes were occurring as well as water becomes more chemically concentrated.
At some point, our planet will be too toxic for our species to adapt to as well.
We helped that along by making toxic fossil fuels into an aerosol form.

That is why, our asshole politicians want to adapt us or knock us off with this chemical experiment in the jabs.

I can show how our planet was mechanically created as well as how evaporation process is achieved.
Gravity is incorrect. Our planet is held by orbital gases that have different velocities.

  10. Render unto Einstein what is Einsten’s.
The Bible is not a physics book, and was never intended to be one. Nor is it a biology book, and people who think it is are not worth arguing with. They were never reasoned into their position, and won’t be reasoned out of it. The great thing is that they use things that require the use of modern physics to design and build all the time, at the same time denouncing it. They are essentially Flat Earthers.
For those of you who say that modern physics and advanced math are incomprehensible, well you’re either too stupid or too lazy or both.
Lastly, inflationary theory dates back a few decades, its just new to people who read crap like “The New Scientist.”

      1. Bunk.
Molecular biology explains the Cambrian Explosion.
FTA:”You have a choice because DNA actually consists of valid genes separated by long sequences of nonsense.”<-False.
That nonsense is actually a complex, and as yet poorly understood control mechanism, the inception of which caused, you guessed it, the Cambrian explosion.

Darwin's theory isn't perfect, and will get modified, perhaps out of recognition, but there is absolutely no evidence for ID. In the end, it's just the "Tornado in a scrapyard" argument, which anyone who knows anything about the thermodynamics of dissipative structures knows is also a bunk argument.
        Incomplete understanding != zero understanding.
Also, the guy who wrote that article is no scientist.

      2. Also FTA:
“The trunk was supposed to branch into many different species, each species giving rise to many genera, and towards the top of the tree you would find so much diversity that you could distinguish separate phyla—the large divisions (sponges, mosses, mollusks, chordates, and so on) that comprise the kingdoms of animals, plants, and several others—take your pick. But, as Berlinski points out, the fossil record shows the opposite: “representatives of separate phyla appearing first followed by lower-level diversification on those basic themes.”

More BS. The author has zero comprehension of taxonomy, and also doesn’t seem to know what a tree looks like. He is here making a straw-man argument: Nowhere does Darwinian evolutionary theory predict that “The trunk was supposed to branch into many different species, each species giving rise to many genera…”
Evolutionary theory indeed predicts that “representatives of separate phyla appearing first followed by lower-level diversification on those basic themes”

      3. Lastly, evolutionary theory does not explain many things, like the differentiation of some of the higher-level classificiations, like phyla, genera, class, order, etc. It does explain the very highest level, prokaryotes vs eukaryotes, and the very lowest level, species, in fact, species differentiation due to adaptation has been proven in the lab.
ID theory isn’t science; it is pre-modernism pretending to be science.
        Evolutionary theory is.
One does not do science by saying “Here’s something that one theory doesn’t explain, therefore this other theory is correct.”

Modern physics cannot explain the spin of the proton, that doesn’t mean the Earth is flat, or that the large-scale universe is governed by electrical forces.
