Power to the People

Power cuts hit homes in north-east China

One power company said it expected the power cuts to last until spring next year, and that unexpected outages would become “the new normal”. Its post, however, was later deleted. The energy shortage at first affected manufacturers across the country, many of whom have had to curb or stop production in recent weeks.

But over the weekend residents in some cities saw their power cut intermittently as well, with the hashtag “North-east electricity cuts” and other related phrases trending on Twitter-like social media platform Weibo. The extent of the blackouts is not yet clear, but nearly 100 million people live in the three provinces.

In Liaoning province, a factory where ventilators suddenly stopped working had to send 23 staff to hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning.

  1. A clear signal of a failing economy. Zero percent interest rates have stoked demand while throttling the supply of capital needed to meet that demand.

  2. Massive default.
    Massive floods
Overwhelming response to the least threatening criticism
    Now blackouts

    What are the chicoms hiding?

    1. They are hiding nothing, it is all out in the open, the people of the world are to stupid to see it. Why? Because the morons are unable to think that far ahead.

  3. “In Liaoning province, a factory where ventilators suddenly stopped working had to send 23 staff to hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning.”

Hahahahahahahahahahahha die commie pigs. Your ambition, greed and evil is catching up.

    1. While the sentiment is correctly attributed, remember that the communists don’t run things, they leave that to the lesser beings.
The communists are no better than an organized crime syndicate that profits from control.
They care little if at all for those tasked with making goods or providing services they only care about receiving their cut.
In this respect they are nothing more than medieval overlords that believe they have a divine right to rule.

  4. If anyone is suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning, the quickest and surest treatment is hyperbaric oxygen. Most doctors are unaware of this so if going to the hospital delays receiving hyperbaric oxygen it will be a much longer path to recovery.

    1. Good advise WalterF, but only in countries with functioning medical (as opposed to medically rationed) case systems.

  5. From a friend with extensive business experience in China “China Air isn’t just a commuter airline”

  6. Interesting that the U.N. just last week demanded that Australia make drastic cuts to their coal exports in the name of Climate Change. We also know cutting production of anything when demand is up results in higher prices worldwide. That said, China thought it would get cute by banning Australian coal creating huge stockpiles driving down the price and it did just that, but only temporarily, other nations seeing the bargain coal scooped up the stockpiles plus the reserves thereby creating a shortage, hence a huge uptick in prices. China realizing they effed up now have to buy coal at the current stratospheric prices. And that’s why they’re turning out the lights in Chinese shitholes.
I know China’s reputation is that they’re incredibly smart…but if you give them a chance they can outstupid anyone.

    1. No western country should be selling coal, wheat, pigs, chickens soy beans or any foodstuff to China. Let them eat real estate.

  7. Good luck China, hope things don’t get so desperate that you decide to pillage a resource rich country in North America that is lead by a moronic dilettante whose foundation has received millions of dollars from you.

Which country am I talking about? There’s at least two to pick from.

  8. Manitoba Hydro announced a few weeks ago that due to low water levels up north from the drought they will not be exporting any hydroelectricity this winter otherwise they might not have enough power for their Manitoba customers.

After reading that, I have stocked up a lot more firewood for my emergency wood stove this fall in case we end up like China.

  9. Yeah. China is toast tomorrow, or are they the biggest and worse threat to global economics?
I’d say that militarily, they’re a paper tiger, but economically, they are smarter, more focused and more ruthless than any western country, but then again, so are the 7th century goat-shaggers.
The west has actually managed to bend over so far that they are now lecherously kissing their own asses goodbye.

      1. A cunning thief with a manufacturing sector that services the world? Including YOU! Do you know where all the ICs in your devices come from? Do you even know the difference between a microcontroller and a microprocessor?
