They (Democrats in name – Communists in doing), are 100% AGAINST any Capitalistic type endeavour. Being a small landlord fits that bill to a TEE.
Lets see how this shakes out up here…..As I can see there are far far too many CERBians in this country as well…although nowhere near as well compensated as I understand those in the US are.
I read recently it was ~53,500/USD Annually..??? (69,375 CAD) – if thats the case, WOW…and utterly INSANE….totally undermining the entire Economy (and maybe that’s the goal no.??)
Federally controlled in addition to what they have and usurped:
– elections
– police
– education
– housing
– all courts
– everything
A one party state cannot tolerate a federal government or a bicameral legislature, or independent courts, they must all go.
This reminds me of a joke Ronald Reagan told, in his prescient way, about a tenant in Moscow who got a call from the central controlling agency – maintenance. Further to his report of a broken toilet he was told it would be repaired two years from next Tuesday at 1pm. The tenant was amazed, the needed repair was cruelly delayed but they knew the time of day?

A state big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you have. That is an inevitability.

I think the obvious play, from the landlord’s point of view, is change the contract. Is there a minimum rental agreement time?
Don’t rent for a year, don’t rent for two years. Rental contracts are now renewed weekly. No more automatic renewals. Landlord does not have to renew, when you stop paying.
The second is the damage deposit. I would not rent to anyone, unless they had whatever the minimum rental length is by law, multiplied by 5 as collateral. If rental contracts must be 6 months minimum, you have to fork over 30 months worth of rent.
Very detailed rental contracts from now on, I am thinking. With lots of contractual penalties written in there. There will never again be a rental longer than 3 or 6 months I am thinking.
In Ontario, at least, most of those terms are set by provincial legislation and cannot be overridden by a lease. The only one I can think of off the top of my head that’s still negotiable is length of the lease.

As someone who has been a landlord I can tell you it is a high risk low margin business. While I was never victim of such renters , I know numerous people who were. I sold the last of them when the Sask government made the landlord responsible for any utilities unpaid by the tenant.
I was a victim of assholes and morons. Years ago though, I could get tough with them and in reality make their life so miserable they would have to leave and there wasn’t a damn thing the government could do about it. My foray into apartments was short lived, couldn’t stand the aggravation, took some write offs and got the hell out of the business.
And people wonder why I don’t rent out the house inherited…..

Have all the services to the rental units turned off. When the “renters” go out, throw their shit out on the lawn and change the locks (if they have wrecked the inside of the premises, keep any good stuff they might have to sell to cover the costs – distress for rent). The “law” from the CDC is invalid and should be ignored by landlords. If the government doesn’t have to follow the laws of the nation, neither do its citizens.
Only banks can evict people. All the insolvent landlords will have their assets foreclosed on by banks, and the giant housing monopolies will get it all.
You will own nothing, and be happy. They will own everything, and be even happier.
