Maybe the offsets will pay for themselves

What, exactly, is carbon-neutral LNG? Is it produced with a one-sided ledger?

Nature-based offset projects such as reforestation, protect, transform or restore land and enable nature to add oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide emissions.

  1. Shell (and BP, Chevron, Exon Mobil) are to the Oil and Gas sector what big tech is to free market Capitalism – large woke corporate spin machines essentially abandoning their core business and shareholders. Corporate cowardice right out of the pages of Atlas Shrugged. This story should be under the “pleasing your enemy” category.

  2. Like telling farmers to burn straw and sweepings to dry their grain. It’s carbon neutral. Pollution, well that is so 20th century.

  3. And we don’t need a deal like this in Canada, we already have Little Potato’s promise to plant half-a-billion trees.

    How’s that coming along, anyway?

    1. The Spawn’s promise was to plant 2 billion and the problem is you need to submit sewing requests to nurseries well in advance and then find land area equivalent to the whole of PEI that is cleared and available to plant and employ competent staff to manage logistics, wade through regulatory and land-use and apartheid affairs consultation and reconciliation and supervise contractors who have to drastically scale up their workforce. Forestry operations already replant or ensure natural regen on the lands they manage and wade through all the hoops required. A PM with no practical life skills should be forgiven for knowing nothing of which he speaks as he is simply a fool. There is no forgiving a mindless electorate for putting such a fool in power.

      1. And you don’t even have to do that. Just hire summer students ( – a great use for indigenous students who actually live there – ) to stick 2 billion acorns in the tundra, doesn’t matter where; and lots more to pick acorns in the Fall (anywhere they can find them, and our property rights bed@mned – this is to SAAAAAAAVE THE EARTH after all, so remember priorities and send-in the RCMP to ‘re-educate’ anybody who complains. And property rights don’t exist in Canada anyway; daddy Potato saw to that). Not a single acorn will sprout, much less grow; but what’s THAT got to do with anything? I’m sure our government would think it’s a great idea, and Little Potato said “plant” after all, he never said they had to “grow”.

And Little Potato will (in his own mind) have finally kept an election promise. “All your acorn are belong to us!”

    1. Taxing methane emissions at extremely high rates is Newfoundland’s way to get more money from the unfair Churchill Falls deal they have with Quebec.

  4. What’s wrong with carbon dioxide emissions? The rising CO2 rate, which is predominantly natural, is actually a good thing. An increase in forests will actually increase CO2 levels as well. An acre of forest can produce up to three tons of CO2 a year. Which is a good thing. It helps forests grow, which produces more plant detritus, which produces more CO2, which helps forests grow, which produces more plant detritus…

    1. WZ, the level of stupid in this world has been expanded by a factor of 100, the whu who flu proves my observation.

  5. Perhaps all employees involved in the production will be prevented from exhaling. Heavy plastic bags over their heads secured around their necks with duct tape.

  6. I drive a carbon-neutral BMW and Land Rover. I’ve used both ICE automobiles to transport the trees, shrubs, and flowers planted in my yard. I’ve also used them to transport the decorative stones in my “drought tolerant” CA landscape which has eliminated the need to transport hundreds of thousands of gallons of water, hence saving untold amounts of fossil fuels.

I defy you to argue the “greenness” of my high performance automobiles.

  7. I must have said this a thousand times. Carbon based organisms living on a carbon based planet, trying to eliminate carbon, the word is suicide. it does not get dumber than that. now put your mask on and the plastic bag over your head real snug and you kill two birds with one stone, CO2 and the whu who flu. Idiots.

  8. They must have used non-racist mathematics to work this one out. Once the spells from a tribal shaman are factored in to the equation – poof – the carbon disappears.

  9. Reminder:
Let’s not use the term “climate change”.
Hold the climatistas’ feet to the fire and keep saying “global warming”. Non-existent global warming.
And let’s STOP talking about carbon and Co2 emissions.
The climatistas themselves know that Co2 emissions are irrelevant which is why they switched to “climate change” revealing their special needs idiocy with the notion that human generated Co2 causes warming AND cooling.

  10. Do the global warming morons not realize there is a carbon cycle that is self regulating? More C02 stimulates growth of vegetation that sequesters carbon. Over 99% of the bulk of trees comes from C02 from the air or H20. Canada is already likely a big negative producer of C02. Add to that the fact that Canada is barely industrialized to start with. Why would we even consider de-industrializing?

    1. Scar, ” Why would we even consider de-industrializing?”

Because the elites want to preserve the planet resources for themselves. They don’t want us peasants using them up at what they consider an exponential rate. Shut it all down, axe the pipelines, landlock the oil sands…..until they have need of it in the future.

Remember, we don’t count, and we are foolish to think we do. We, in the west are educated enough to be a threat to them, and we’ll be the first to be eliminated. (Covid maybe?) There are plenty of backward, uneducated third world peoples to satisfy their labor requirements.

  11. Carbon-Neutral LNG is right up there with Subaru’s “Partial Zero Emission Vehicle” that they badge on several of their models. The first time I saw that, my immediate thought was that it was a lot like being “Almost Not Pregnant”.

  12. All corporate energy providers are balls deep into climate change and wokeism. Been to Enbridge’s website lately?
Reads like a Green Party manifesto. Which is why I didn’t shed a tear when Whitmer threatened to close down line 5. Yeah, I’d likely be affected…I’ll get by somehow. They depend on everyday schlubs like us to attend their pity parties whenever climate activists get in their grill. They’re masters at playing both ends against the middle.
So, inevitably one has to ask: Who are major investors in Enbridge? RBC and Scotia Bank just to name two Canadian banks… then there’s investment heavy hitters like Vanguard and BlackRock. You’ve heard of BlackRock right? If you haven’t you should familiarize yourself with an organization who doesn’t exactly have Joe Lunchbucket’s best interest at heart.
Who gives money to BlackRock and Vanguard to invest? The Ontario Teacher’s Pension Fund and those whose job it is to look after the Canada Pension Plan and I think we all know who that is.
Those with the money call the tune.
Trust me, big energy suppliers like Shell don’t sign agreements in the hopes of losing money they’ll make their nut somehow someway so if they don’t jack up the rates for consumers like us, they’ll get it through gov’t subsidies which means you’ll pay for it anyways.

Just signed an electrical contract the other week. With all the list of charges I’m surprised there wasn’t a “Save the Sri Lankan Elephants” levy.

  13. just a little recall. remember when acid rain was poisoning the lakes of the world. the Swedish lakes measured acid levels so high the fish had so-called acid burns . are the world lakes so highly acid still? Did the scientists ever claim they fixed that problem?

  14. Ya see what they did there? Shell’s going to help poor old China with some nice, green LNG to help them with their high-falutin’, bad pollutin’ image. “Don’t worry about the cost – the reforestation is on us! And let’s make this a long-term deal, we’ll give you all the LNG and trees you need.” says the oil company that was just given notice of emissions-termination in their own home country, the Netherlands. Say – you wouldn’t be looking for a new home, would you, hmm Shell?

  15. Every existing single plant on Earth will automatically absorb whatever carbon dioxide is in the air, from every source. You don’t have to specify ‘these trees planted here will absorb the CO2 from the natural gas facility’. You don’t have to plant a single tree. The most stupid form of virtue signaling ever.
