Speaking of dogs, many years ago, PBS used to have a weekly movie review show called Sneak Previews. The first hosts were critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert and they ended each installment with a feature they called Dog of the Week, introduced by a bark from Spot, the Wonder Dog. In it, they reviewed the worst movies from the past few days.
Last night, Turner Classic Movies showed The Bonfire of the Vanities and it deserved to be in that category. It was a hopeless, meandering mess and not even a cast which featured a young Tom Hanks, Morgan Freeman, and Bruce Willis, could save it.
Early in the movie, Hanks’s character takes his dog out for a walk….. in a rain storm. The critter was, I think, a dachshund and it was reluctant to do so, being dragged outside. Considering how bad the movie was, I don’t think the dog was acting.
Actually that movie had some merit as a reflection of the current times.
The irony is that it featured Hollywood A listers decrying the hot mess Hollywood encouraged which is being promoted by BLM and ANTIFA.
How did that flic end?
