RIP Donald Rumsfeld.
From his days as a young aviator in the United States Navy, he spent the majority of his adult life serving that country. When Rumsfeld left government in 2006, he took all the weight of the Bush administration’s failure in Iraq onto his shoulders and bore it into exile. Though he offered some defense of his actions, he also protected colleagues by refusing to reveal in his books some of the more damning information he knew that could have justified some of his decisions. He refused many opportunities to make a McNamara-esque apology for Iraq that would make him look good or to fault President Bush or others for the decisions he took part in. Instead he lived his life—writing bestselling memoirs, spending time out West, helping others where he could, trying to make the world a better place without bitterness or rancor.
And that’s what most every obituary or essay on Rumsfeld you will read in the wake of his death will get wrong.
He’s off to the greatest known unknown.

He died a war criminal, and also a corporate criminal. When he was CEO of Searle, he was told Aspartamine would kill people, and he was quoted as saying” I don’t care how many it kills, I want it on the market”.
He made a boatload of cash off of that poison and contributed hugely to the diabetes epidemic.
Too bad he didn’t spend his last days in prison, where he belonged. Just like so many US government and corporate criminals, NOTHING ever happens to them.
They should all be hunted down and exterminated but that’s just wishful thinking.

GWB cronies were great people, especially the ones who served as go-betweens between multi-national corporations and the GWB admin. I think Canada has a few like that who are go-betweens between SNC Lavalin and the feds, be they “Conservative” or “Liberal.”

Rumsfeld was a rare intellectual in a government anywhere.
He had a job to do and he went and done it.
Remember reading about what he said when they asked him about why he isn’t doing something they thought would be the flavor of the day, don’t remember what, while often waiting at an airport or wherever, he said he preferred to sit down and read a book.
The guy was his own man and would not blame others for something they may have done, he was a one hundred precent a problem solver.
While media will probably dump on him, he will be remembered as a solid and honorable man.
Wonder if he ever found the 2.3 trillion the pentagon was missing that he announced day before 9-11.
Another Eagle Scout. I must say, it’s quite remarkable how Scouting has moulded some of that country’s finest over the years and in all walks of life, especially in the field of aviation.

Not a single cross was erected during the 8-years of the Obama Admin. Not one. As if there weren’t thousands of Americans killed in the ME during Obama’s reign. Same at my local beach for a weekend. I looked at the names and ranks. Lots of Air Force officers and Staff Sergeants in the Army. I asked the young, righteous lefty woman did she know any of them. She said no. I said I guessed most were lifers, professional, and knew what they were getting into. She started to get uncomfortable. I asked her about permission. She was confused. You know, did you get any kind of permission to use these mens names for your stunt? She said no. I said so you just appropriated, took, stole them? She said nothing. As I walked away I said how Lefty, taking whats not yours.

Is it just a crazy conspiracy theory that Rumsfeld announced that the Pentagon “lost” one trillion dollars and then, on 9/11, a missle destroyed the area of the pentagon that was conducting the investigation? Surely such an insane thing could not have occurred. I must be misremembering.
