Tonight we enjoy this magnificent rendition of I’m a Man by Chicago.  There is no bigger fan of Steve Winwood than yours truly.  And while his original version is pretty good, there is some additional musical brilliance in this version by Chicago.

  1. If you are a fan of Chicago’s music (as I am) you really need to check out Leonid and Friends on youtube. They are an incredible group of musicians mostly from Russia. Leonid basically writes all the parts by ear for the musicians and singers and the performances are sublime. Plus they are all having such a great time. I keep going back and watching them over and over.

    1. I agree, Chicago and Leonid and Friends are terrific. Saw Chicago with Earth, Wind and Fire in 2019 in a combined concert in Calgary, also excellent. This is a favourite no matter who does it.

      1. Robert/Nancy … been a CTA fan since the 6th Grade. Love the horns. But now, I can’t listen to any of my superb Chicago vinyl without first playing a vintage video of the band. Why? Terry Kath. God, I miss him. You simply cannot see a live performance of their talisman guitarist without understanding what the band lost when he was gone. He drove the band with his incredible energy and enthusiasm.

          Thomas and B A Rupertslander (@7:17 and 7:39 a.m.) have agreed that without Terry Kath, “Chicago” was no longer the same. They became a new group with Peter Cetera. Eventually drummer, Danny Seraphine, left. Others joined.

          I agree, it would’ve been great to see how they evolved had Terry Kath lived. See info here:

          Before going to their Calgary concert in 2019, I listened to their music again. Thought they would still be a great band. Looked forward to hearing Robert Lamm sing  “Beginnings.” That night he performed it on his keytar, see link photo:

          That night, he, unfortunately, had his throat wrapped and sounded like he had a cold, and his eyes looked sick like he had taken some cold meds and needed sleep. He managed the song and the rest of the night I noticed he didn’t smile much. (still handsome @ 74…and onto his 4th wife!)

          Nonetheless, in my mind I gave them the kudos that they deserved for being the professionals that they are. Most bands don’t survive five years let alone fifty plus.

            It’s THAT vocal that defines Chicago for me. So cool. And that’s from a band with a superb trio of vocalists; falsetto Peter Cetera, and bass Terry Kath. And the band shared the vocals and vocal lead so perfectly! Always choosing the perfect one of the three for each song.

          I love the horn section bands like Chicago, Average White Band, etc.
          Hey Robert, Steve Winwood is one of my favourite dudes, too. His 2008 album, Nine Lives, is one of his best, in my view, but I still am fond of his Blind Faith outings.

            Song made me happy! I searched around and I knew and remembered there was, like you say, something that sounded like Chicago – a big band tune by Dr Music and suddenly, there it was. I got lost in the music. Forgot that ever existed. You’re my inspiration!

  3. Like many Canadians, I was quite surprised to listen to some of the news reports on the Kamloops Residential School discovery of a large cemetery that allegedly contains 215 unmarked graves. I believe the children died of various diseases and pandemics. When I tried to comment on this story in the National Post, my comment was deleted, thus I cancelled my online subscription.
    Graves that were dug decades ago. When they were first utilized, they were most likely adorned with wooden crosses. Over the years, with occasional grass fires, the crosses disappeared. All of the socialist, leftist, political leaders from all over the political are aware of this.

    If Winwood looks young in those Spencer Davis Group clips it’s because he was young.18 when he left SDG to form Traffic; 9 years younger than Davis who died in 2020 age 81.

    1. Sixteen dollars for 375 grams of coffee? That almost makes Tims seem reasonable.
      In comparison, I get my dark roast for about nine dollars per 875 gram can and it is much better than Timmy’s.
      I like sticking it to liberals but sixteen dollars for a small packet of coffee is having it stuck to me.

They published the completely phoney piece where the data was totally made up (I think it was related to HCQ) and had to print a retraction. They refused the legitimate study on masks and published something paid for by the WHO that was full of holes. Another “professional” journal that has destroyed its reputation by pursuing an agenda.     Seemed obvious, especially given the safety protocols written into the clinical trial documents. Calling his comment secondary spike protein exposure “couldn’t hurt anyone” speculative, else no need for the Safety section protocols. I doubt they looked much for evidence of secondary issues considering how hard they are censoring primary issues.
