A realistic answer would be “we pulled it out of our asses”.
Ask them if they own a car, or a dog? Do you own a home? Heat it in winter, or cool it in summer? Do you have a lawn? Mow it once a week in summer? Do you fly …… anywhere, business or pleasure? Eat any meat, mystery or otherwise? What kind clothing do you wear? Any synthetics?
I could go on.
CO2 is plant food. You need a minimum of 250 ppm CO2 to keep things sorta running on this planet, more is better. We are at 400-410 ppm CO2 and it doesn’t have any effect on temperature. That bright, nuclear fire burning 93 million miles away keeps this place warm. Period. Warm is best.
I think you’ll find the ‘approved’ answer is: “Because we believe that 1.5c above the pre industrial temperature is the ‘tipping point’, after which the temperature will ‘run away’ uncontrollably as it is believed to have done on Venus”.
It’s all bollocks of course.
PO’ed in AB, you’re spot on – on a scale of 1 to 35, where 1 is ‘the level of CO2 is so low pretty much the only thing left alive on the planet is grass’ and 35 is ‘the highest level of CO2 found in the geologic record’, we are currently at a little over 2.
Also, another report this week confirms CO2 rises AFTER the temperature goes up, not the other way round.
Isn’t Venus a Hell of a lot closer to the Sun than we are, [and Hell is the action word here]? Maybe that is why it is so hot there and not all the CO2 is causing it to be that way? I wonder if Earth was as close to the Sun as Venus would it still be as cool as it is now? I doubt it very much.
We are approximately 93 million miles from the Sun right now and where I live it is now 106*F and we are JUST STARTING our Summer. I wonder how hot it would be if we were as close as Venus is? Boiling oceans everyone?

Just think, there were once trees and beavers in the high Arctic. Implying that it was a LOT warmer than today. And yet life still exists on our planet.

1.5C is about the same magnitude of the downward adjustments made to historical temperatures needed to show warming over the last century or so.

Just think of how much easier life would be in Canada if we had a few degree temperature rise.
Less so called CO2, better growing season, less heating costs,less construction costs(polluting insulation), more money staying in the country(snowbirds etc)…well one gets the picture.

Don’t forget that the higher the CO2, the more drought resistant plants are, because they could close off those pores they breathe through somewhat, since they now remain wide open since plants evolved in a CO2 range of thousands of PPM and they are straining to feed on CO2 at current levels. This is well established science, BTW.

It was actually much warmer than 1.5C when the Vikings sailed into the Arctic before the present day Inuit had arrived. It is estimated it was 7-8 deg F warmer than present day. And they sailed in with their open boats and set up camps in the high Arctic.

Why aren’t the polar bears extinct already, one wonders. After all, it was far warmer at their latitudes than it is today for a couple thousand years just a few thousand years ago.

When any of these nuts start prattling on about global warming, ask them what the thermostat is set at in their house and if they use air conditioning.
If they really cared they would set the temperature to 5C and disable their air conditioner.
