Something very strange happened on Jimmy Kimmel’s show:
There’s nothing comedic about his little rant. And the notion that the Russians are involved is almost certainly not true, merely a dog whistle to brain-dead NPCs. So who instructed him to say this?

I don’t watch Jimmy Kibble, or any of the Ugly Amerikan nighttime shows. Waste of time for a bunch of wasted skin.
I’ve rarely watched late-night chat or comedy shows. The only one I glanced at once in a while was Johnny Carson and that was because I used to stay up late in my early twenties. I never found SNL funny, even when I first saw it in the late 1970s and I thought David Letterman was a twit.
The rest weren’t worth bothering about.

All of it, when seen then, and seen especially in retrospect, was the same damn unfunny, cynical diversionary tactic while evil grew behind the curtains.

Carson at least had a bit of wit and he definitely paid attention to the news, upon which he based his monologues. He was in the same tradition as Will Rogers and, of all the chat show hosts, he was probably the most intelligent. He was, after all, a magician and an amateur astronomer.
The rest, such as Letterman, simply wanted to be seen as hip or cool.
I watched first 13 minutes (did not last until the end) of this primitive, obtrusive cringe-megafest with genuine fascination. How limited does one UnMe have to be to actually think any of it was funny?
Humor, what little exists, to the institutional left, consists of making fun of opinions of those outside of their bubble who share very little of the “common culture” with them. Dialogue with the other is the last thing on their minds, preferring ridicule, criticism and political virtue signaling and most prevalent of all, thinly disguised contempt. Watching this type of “entertainment” is as enjoyable as receiving a root canal without the freezing.
It is not humour, my friend, it is derision by those who, as you note, make derisive fun of what their hollow hearts envy, although they don’t even know that. Pity the hollow fools. As CS Lewis opined, they are men without chests.
Character assassination is not humor and that is all they stand for these days.
Absolutely, Stevie and vowg. I was a big fan of late night TV, enjoying Carson and SNL(even Tom Snyder) as a kid in the mid-seventies, until the new guard took over. Never found Leno or Letterman very funny, but at least I wasn’t disgusted by them. Then came the Colberts and Kimmels, and the ugliness was out in the open.
There was no more intelligent humor, it was all based on despicable personal attacks, and the genre lost me as a customer for good. It has only gotten worse since, as this Kimmel clip absolutely proves.
The Kimmel’s of this world are not here to make you laugh, they are here to make you conform.
