12. Hard for me to get upset about an MD in the USA, where doctors make far more than they do here, getting paid just over US$400K per year to be in his federal role. We may not have liked his decisions, but he is in a high position with a big enterprise, with massive professional credentials, in a well paid profession.

18. I remember watching an early live press conference with Trump and Fauci, the latter giving a very convincing performance. Must admit that at the time I was favourably impressed. But of course, since then my opinion of Fauci has changed quite a bit. Fauci is a consummately skilled operator of bureaucratic and organizational politics, willing and able to suit his words to what will please the higher-ups at the time while keeping an eye on who might be coming along.
