  1. As I found out in the past two weeks here in Edmonton, claiming an exemption and not wearing a mask can make one a target for all sorts of trouble.

    I mentioned this to one of my neighbours earlier today. Her opinion was that people are scared. No, that’s not it. It’s the sense of self-importance and the belief that one is doing one’s duty (bestowed, encouraged, and rewarded by the government) that’s caused this to happen.

    Oddly enough, they do it without reward, which means the government is getting off cheap. I would have thought that it would be offering prizes for that sort of thing. (“Turn in 5 mask scofflaws and enter your name in the draw for a free trip to Hawaii.”)

    I never thought that I’d ever see the say in which turning on one’s fellow citizen would be considered an act of patriotism.

      1. What I found out already is that people think nothing’s wrong when someone is publicly attacked for not wearing a mask. Instead of being indignant that someone’s privacy has been violated, they firmly believe that person deserved that treatment.

        My love for my fellow man is rapidly diminishing.

        1. I saw someone at the grocery store the other day without a mask and a T-shirt that said “I have a severe respiratory condition so F*CK OFF”. Brave lad.

          A number of the larger venues have now amended their policies to say that if you can’t wear a mask, you have to wear a “face shield”. Aside from protecting the salad from random sneezing I can’t see how those do anything at all.

            That’s all the surgical masks are intended to do. They are worthless against either the extrusion or intrusion of aerosols. Wearing a surgical mask as a barrier to aerosols has been likened to erecting a chain link fence as a barrier to mosquitoes.

            Note that liquid gasoline is converted to an aerosol that can be properly combusted in a car cylinder by forcing it through a fine mesh.

I wear a mask only to make others feel better around me, and, at bars and restaurants I wear the mask so the Owners of the establishment and all the people who work there can continue to work, pretty sure the rise in cases with 99% of the population wearing masks prove they really don’t work that well, however, if it keeps places open I’ll wear one. I’ll wait to see if what really happened at that Bar is what really happened.

  12. I had a woman (complete stranger) instruct me on how to wear my mask yesterday when I was shopping at Winners. I told her to basically stuff it – but I was polite about it since my mother told me always to be polite – weather you mean it or not.

    I’m betting that in 10 years (I used to say 15 years), that a smart law firm will launch a class action suit against all the makers of hand sanitizer and claim that it causes skin cancer.
