20 Replies to “Good News For Ryan Meili”

  1. I also hope the numbers hold for election day. To the extent that CBC News and the Globe and Mail know where Saskatchewan is, on a map, look for some investigative hit jobs against the Sask Party before election day. The big corporate media love their NDP.

  2. “Good news for Ryan….”. I’d suggest that it is good news for Saskatchewan, that we are continuing to dismiss the socialist influence in our province.

    1. Only until the trough seekers switch party. Be on guard for the soft-takeover once they realize the NDP is unelectable.

      1. That happened in Alberta. The teachers’ union had its members join the PC party in large numbers and got Alison Redford elected leader of the PCs. She then was elected premier and acted like the NDPer she was at heart.

  3. From elections.sk.ca
There are 6 registered political parties in Saskatchewan:
    Buffalo Party
    New Democratic Party (N.D.P.)
    PC Party of Saskatchewan
    Saskatchewan Green Party
    Saskatchewan Liberal Party
    Saskatchewan Party

Let’s hope most of the “other” is Buffalo.

  4. Although this was predictable it is indeed good news for the province. I personally would like to see the NDP completely obliterated come election day but a severe and thorough beating would suffice. Throughout my many years in this province I have never voted NDP. However, as much as I detested their political beliefs, I perceived previous leaders Allan Blakeney, Roy Romanow and Lorne Calvert as fairly decent human beings. Ryan Meili, not so much. He is nothing more than an obstruction, albeit a small, ineffective one. He hasn’t met a TV camera or microphone that he doesn’t love and comes across as simply creepy. He is quick to criticize yet never offers an alternate solution other than tax and spend. His failure to be elected (see Cam Broten and Dwain Lingenfelter ) would be icing on the cake.

    1. Biff, have you not been paying attention. Canadians are socialists. The liberals are socialists, the greens are socialists, the block are socialists, the conservatives are socialism lite. There are no parties in Canada that do not embrace total government control of our society because freaking Canadians are freaking socialists if not down right communists. It is so hard to find thinking people who embrace freedom of the individual. No one in Canada wants such freedom. That freedom requires thought and actual work.

  5. The political situation in Canada is behind a huge screen… The Liberals & NDP don’t want to defend their failed policies until they have had time to bury the bodies… A Federal election NOW will wipe them out…O’Toole just has to stand back and let them try to explain the economical damage…..The Canadian $ will go to .45C unless the change takes place……

It helps to understand that what is happening in the USA is not ALL Republican driven… Joe was picked for a reason…Kind of like the FG kicker that has never made 3 points is picked for the winning play….

    JMHO

  6. Can anyone think of a single thing that would be different today, if Lorne Calvert were still the premier?

Yeah, me neither. So the Sask Party are better socialists than the NDP in the “most crowns on the continent” province. Let’s celebrate.

    1. Kevin. you must never have had the pleasure of living in a province run by hard left socialists. Nothing moves or happens without permission from the unions so nothing other than government jobs are available.Your kids move to other places to get work and the population ages and stagnates etc etc. etc.

      1. That is the situation in Saskatchewan today.

Socialism, is a synonym, for destruction. Destroy, is all that socialism can do, or ever will do.
Step one in socialism, create slaves. Slaves are created, through dependency. Welfare, food stamps, whatever the vehicle, they convince you first that you need it, then that only government can provide it, then that you cannot live without it, that competition would hurt your family, ….

        Dependency in Saskatchewan:
        Sask Power
        Sask Energy
        Sask Government insurance
        Sask Crop Insurance
        Sask Tel
        Sask Water
Water Security Agency (yes, there are 2)
        public education
        Sask Liquor & Gaming
Sask Gaming (oh look, another 2 crowns)
        Sask Housing
        Sask Research Council
        SPSA
        SOCO
        Municipal Financing Corp (MFC)
        Crown Investments (CIC)
        Financial & Consumer Affairs (FCAA)
Global Transportation Authority (GTA, created by the definitely not socialist Sask party)

Rural electrification, was a huge socialist power grab, that will never be undone.
You do not appear to realize, that “a province run by hard left socialists” IS EXACTLY WHAT SASKATCHEWAN CURRENTLY IS.

Has this conservative in name only “Sask Party”, ever pared down the number of government employees? Ever broken any unions? Ever dismantled any crowns? Ever let protestors erect tents on the grounds of the Legislature and refused to remove them for months?

In Saskatchewan, basically 50% of the adult population works directly for the government. That means 50% of all voters, are members of SGEU.

There is implementing actual conservative, small government policies, there is selling actual conservatism. Then there is just slower socialism, but we end up at the same place. It would just be a few hours earlier with Meili.

I will now take this opportunity to tell you to try rational thought, logic, actual arguments instead of logical fallacy. But it would be a waste of time. All you had was an appeal to emotion, no facts, no actual argument. Saskatchewan has the British disease, but there is no Margaret Thatcher to get us out of it. If there was, the Sask Party would kick her out, and you would probably not vote for her.

Under Wall, and now Moe, I think I can officially say that Saskatchewan is the sick man of Canada, as the UK was the sick man of Europe under socialism.

        1. Yes, there are a lot of agencies that need to be done away with.
Liquor, gaming, housing, GTH can all be privatized.
Land titles was in Sask. Justice at one time and was turned into a publicly traded company ISC. Its CEO makes over $870,000 vs Scott Moe at $170,000 and the minister of justice at somewhere south of that. Did land transfer rates go down because of the efficiencies created?
Will doing away with Saskpower, Saskenergy and Crop insurance make it cheaper for me and my bottom line? If so, how much cheaper??
If/when rates go up can I only bitch about it or vote the bastards out of office and until then hold their feet to the fire?
In the US, General Robert Spalding a senior adviser within the National Security Council suggested that the 5G network infrastructure not be developed by the private sector and instead be built and run by the US government like the Army Corps of Engineers keeping Chinese interests out. Heresy. He was fired for it.

    2. Kevin. The highways are a LOT better everywhere I travel. Its important because CN not only abandoned but removed the steel rail lines but retained the property so no short line railway opportunities forcing grain, wood products and oil to be trucked on provincial highways.

Do you recall Brad Wall going to Calgary trying to court oil companies to move head offices to Saskatchewan becuse of lower tax rate? Things were happening here pre-carbon tax and “No More Pipelines.

Sask Party recently announced a 10 year irrigation canal and pipeline plan that will bring long term prosperity to a large area of rural Sask. Governments job is to create a climate for entrepreneurs to thrive not a Spudco direct business competitor.

The Saskatchewan government has made changes to Bill 194 to better protect law-abiding firearm owners.
It stops municipalities across Saskatchewan ban firearm and handgun ownership through bylaws.
Scott Moe is making changes so the province appointments its own Chief Firearms Officer instead of Ottawa.

  7. “Can anyone think of a single thing that would be different today, if Lorne Calvert were still the premier?”

Let’s see. Where should I start?
Chances of getting a private MRI and avoiding the backlog. None. Can’t have some private company making money by offering a service that the government struggles to deliver now can we?
The Sask Transportation Company would still be operating running empty buses up and down the highways burning up money and diesel fuel. After all, seniors in rural areas are now unable to attend doctors’ appointments since the STC was their only source of transportation.
Good luck buying a bottle of booze or a case of beer at the Co-op or Sobey’s. Better to visit your local government operated liquor store and deal with limited selection and surly employees.
We wouldn’t have to worry about staffing new schools. There wouldn’t be any. Overcrowded classrooms could be alleviated by hiring more teachers.
Highways would continue to deteriorate at a rapid rate.
The labour dispute at the Co-op Refinery could have been settled much sooner by legislation. On Unifor’s terms of course.
SEIU West would have a new contract after meeting all the outrageous demands of the union.
We would all be denied the pleasure of viewing the colourful (and expensive) billboards praising the work of public service employees and condemning their bad treatment at the hands of an uncaring government.
Businesses and schools would continue in a state of lock-down until no new cases of Covid-19 were detected for a year.

    And the list goes on.
