I Want A New Country

Great news;

A highly credible new leader has stepped forward to lead the Wexit movement. For Canadian federalists, like me, it’s bad news; for Western separatists it’s great news.

Jay Hill, the former whip and House leader in Stephen Harper’s federal Conservative government, has taken the reins of the Wexit movement — a fledgling entity that aims for Western Canada to separate from Canada.

In an understated announcement made on the Wexit Canada Facebook page Tuesday at 5 p.m., Hill was declared the new interim leader, taking over from Peter Downing. So why is this 67-year-old former Reform party MP launching this seemingly impossible task?

“Simply, in one sentence, I’m doing this for my grandchildren,” says Hill, who has three preschool-aged grandkids.

“It’s that simple. I’ve thought long and hard about this. With my background, I think people understand that I gave close to 20 years of my life to federal politics. I followed Preston Manning — the West Wants In.”

Now, however, Hill says the West Wants Out.

“I gave some of the best years of my working life to the service of my constituents and my country, and I came to the realization over the last while that things are never going to change. So, really, it’s just another extension of that definition of insanity — doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for a different result,” says Hill, who was the member of Parliament for the riding of Prince George-Peace River from 1993 until his retirement in 2010, when he settled in Calgary with his wife, Leah.

“Western Canada is never gonna get a fair shake from the rest of Canada. Confederation does not work. It cannot work. It is not structured to work.

“Those in the golden triangle of Quebec, Toronto, Ottawa, they don’t care about the West except as a cash cow to feed Quebec and the Maritimes,” said Hill.

He says he knows Wexit is a difficult task, but he was there at the beginning of Reform and knows how to rally people behind a cause.

“I’m not naive,” said Hill. “This is going to be a difficult task, but I’m gonna put some effort into this along with other credible, like-minded people and hopefully we can convince the majority of westerners that they would be better off forming their own nation.”

Case in PointI must have missed the announcement to assist the tourism industry in Western Canada. My bad.

  1. The new Western Repiblic MUST enact the following legislation: you do not vet the right to vote until you have lived continuously in the state for a period of no less than 25 years. No exceptions.

So no recent immigrants arriving and then promptly flipping the state liberal. Nadda. You pay your dues. You are welcome to migrate. But you pay taxes, but you don’t vote till you have put down roots, and paid your dues.

This treats kids born in the state the same as those who move there. No vote till you’ve pulled your 25 years.

Next, end all funding for Arts programs at Universities and colleges. Only STEM and trades get funding. The rest is out of pocket.

Japan did this, and the results are immediate. Forcing taxpayers to.fund their own oppression is disgusting.

  2. I grew up in Montreal, in the mid 60’s and late 70’s. A transplanted Tronna boy then. Saw it all, the FLQ, bombs in mailboxes, riots, commie unions, traitorous commie politicians, English and French, “Troops in Our Streets”. Then the English ones moved to Tronna when all was said and done and continue (Sock Buoy’s favorite word) the Marxification of this country. Who was Lester Pearson, , “unification”, the flag change to a piece of rag with a Maple Leaf?
There are no maple leaves in western Canada, save for Manitoba maples. The QPP (Quebec Pension Plan was hived off the CPP) is well funded, whereas the CPP isn’t and is co-opted by the Chicoms now who have been aided by Powercorp and their cozy relationship through Quebec. The CPP has offices in Hong Kong and your money now funds Crooked Commie Chinah. You’ll be paid in butt wipe Yuan before long. Oh and $10-12 Billion a year in Equalization helps. Where do you think that money goes?
I hate to warn you that an amicable split isn’t in the cards for the west, too many imports with no sense of “family” and “Equalization”. The opportunity to split was when the NEP was imposed. Now, you’ll have to shoot your way out, believe me. I already had this discussion back when the NEP was first imposed.
The commies are firmly in control today. You’ll need the Yanks on this one. Bottom line.

  3. Stevie, I’m in northwestern Ontario, but except for the Kenora riding, most of the north is crammed with leftists. Thunder Bay always votes Liberal or worse.

  4. Any Westerner who thinks the east will willingly give up a ‘cash cow’ are naive. If we think Canada is economically and morally bankrupt and want to leave because of that then what does the power structure in the east think? There are smart people on Bay Street and they have measured the political and economic imperatives that justify Western exploitation. Failure to maintain the status quo will accelerate an already deteriorating situation.

Western separation will be fought thru whatever means the east deems necessary, even force. This will not be a Czechoslovakia style split. Dream world. Western Canada does not a EU carrot to ease a split unless the USA is construed that way. Wexit will take a steely resolve and sacrifice which I frankly wonder if it exists? Desperation creates movement so I certainly do not discount such a separation. As the world implodes anything is possible.

  5. So, yet another long time politician with “Ottawa disease” promises to “lead us to safety”, and that is “great news”?

Yeah, with friends like you, the west does not need enemies; and it will NEVER be free.
