More or less on the same issue — racism issue being politically exploited — I am upset about the treatment Stockwell Day got for failing to support the notion of systemic racism in Canada — no more commenting on the CBC (They must be running out of Conservatives by now); he is now off of a couple of boards. He somehow felt the need to publicly apologize for his “insensitivity.”
    Here it is. Stockwell Day is forced to apologize for saying this:
    “”We have to recognize that our system is not perfect in Canada,” Day said during the panel discussion. “Yes, there’s a few idiot racists hanging around but Canada is not a racist country and most Canadians are not racist. And our system, that always needs to be improved, is not systemically racist.”
    Honestly, I think many (most?) Canadians think the same, To interpret the remark as racist reflects a sick mentality. It appears there is not even room for discussion. No freedom of thought any more in Canada. It really is outrageous. Rex got the same response for his column in the post but so far still seems to have his job.

    What is particularly galling is that Mr Blackface is now the authority on racism in Canada. Such irony.
    We all accept thst there are racist incidents, but the designation “systemic racism” turns people into victims (never helpful) and fails to acknowledge the many efforts Canada has made to overcome racism. The level of racism in Canada should be up for discussion. With discussion views, can be changed and experiences shared. But by humiliating and shunning those who disagree, one is left feeling there is no point in even trying.

  5. Speaking of justice it is interesting to note that Floyd had tested positive for the virus. If there is not a huge upsurge in co-vid cases shortly it can only mean that we have been duped by someone. The massive protests during an epidemic that crashed the economy can only result in a tremendous increase in co-vid cases anything less will indicate that something far more nefarious was afoot. I’m going to sit back and see what happens either there is a) a surge or b) the excuses come out that it wasn’t as virulent as first thought. I’m betting on b) and watch the contortions and excuses tumble from all of the doomsayers about how they thought they were doing the right thing in counseling the political leaders into leading us down the garden path. Will there be any justice if we find out that the great pandemic of 2020 was nothing more than ruse.

    She alludes to the phenomenon where the worst examples of police brutality are NOT protested. The shooting of Walter Scott was not protested anywhere on the same scale as Michael Brown protests. Even though the former was a clear example of police murder, and the latter clearly involved instigation by the victim.
