I always get a kick out of the fact that in the wake of the pandemic, every government official, no matter how humble, feels that every public statement requires them to be accompanied by a sign language interpreter. This unexpected boom has lead to the hiring of a lot of dubious talent. I’m no ASL expert, but I’m pretty sure that most of these people are just fronting – flailing their hands like an awkward toddler trying to recite “The Itsy-Bitsy Spider”; confident in the knowledge that most people neither know nor care what the hell they’re actually doing.

    For these next few minutes, we put away our songs of hope, our songs of joy, our songs of redemption to sit in solidarity with those who are in the darkness of violence, division, and despair. We sit with the pain…
    of racial violence
    of injustice

    However, I really liked the response of a congregant to a church Elder:

    I am taken aback at the “Prayer of Lament” attached to K***’s email of June 1. There is the over-arching message that we should all be in paroxysms of “ache” and “pain” over events in the USA, and overwrought by guilt concerning everything our ancestors did.

    Regarding recent events in the USA, the Floyd homicide by the cop in Minneapolis has been condemned by everyone—there are no “two sides” on the matter. The cop has been charged with murder and no one outside of a few Twitter nutcases disagrees. So, what are the protesters protesting? The media tell us it’s police racism and brutality. But those issues have been vigorously addressed for 20 years now. (Has anyone noticed that the majority of police chiefs in these riot-rocked cities are black?)

    Far-left anarchists like Antifa use the cover of peaceful protesters to incite violence, and then looters use those distractions to steal merchandise, destroy and burn property, and beat up any business owners who attempt to defend their property. That is the greater outrage! For example, what do middle-aged storeowners in Rochester, New York have to do with Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis?

    I don’t see any concern in the “prayer of lament” for victims such as these. This “prayer of lament” is another example of clergy and their flocks in North America failing to comprehend the “big picture” and lacking perspective on what the priorities should be. Over the past 10 years Christians have been persecuted and killed as never before in Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Egypt, multiple countries in black Africa (especially Nigeria), China, and more recently India.

    Do we hear about these life-and-death circumstances in our churches or are they mentioned in corporate prayer? Our churches and Christian leaders should be pressuring our political leaders to elevate these issues at the international level and give immigration priority to Christian refugees. As objective as I can be, these are more significant than the political issues preoccupying the author of the “prayer of lament”.

    Pastor K**** should spare us from political documents cloaked as prayers.

      1. The United Church of Canada is basically a subsidiary of the NDP that is used for its tax-exempt status. A minister in the United Church doesn’t even have to believe in God to keep his-her job.

While I’m personally not a church-goer, my patience with the woke-kind would have been far exceeded had I received this email from my church. The wrath that I would unleash in a responding email would burn their eyes. And that’s just the part of my note about appeasing the could-give-a-shit-less native types. When my note got to the part about importing BLM issues south of the border into our lives, a reaction not unlike a small nuclear detonation would be observed.

As to importing skilled immigrants, think it through, if it were you with those skills, would you want to come to North America? The lights are badly dimmed in the shining city upon the hill, and their neighbor to the North is currently managed by Morons! Would you choose either right now?

This gathering of virtue-signalling idiots engaged in an orgy of self-loathing and white guilt accomplished exactly nothing other than showing a blatant disregard for the “social distancing” measures that we are reminded of ad nauseam. In the meantime, as these cretins crowded together resembling a herd of stupid cattle, my grand kids can’t go to the local park since the play structures are fenced off with caution tape and emblazoned with ominous warning signs. Ball diamonds and soccer pitches sit empty with the same warning signs posted on backstops and goal posts. Thousands of kids across the province are missing out on joining their friends for baseball, softball and soccer games. School buses have sat since March 20. WTF is wrong with this picture?
