Ready, Fire, Aim

Via Redstate;

“The autopsy revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation. Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease. The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.”

From the charging documents.

  1. See it was his being restrained that was the problem not his actions that lead to being restrained.
Silly police don’t arrest or restrain people just ask nicely and they will happily get in the back of the police car.
Hell if you let them drive they’ll buy you a burger at the drive thru.

  2. Not saying this police officer acted appropriately but at this point who in their right mind would become a police officer? At the very least they should stop patrolling black areas and avoid arresting black people at all.

    1. I’m pretty sure that’s what the data out of Ferguson shows happened there after that incident

    2. None at the right mind becomes a police officer in the first place. Being a low IQ thug is a requirement to qualify for the job. Stop looking at them like they are good guys. They’re not. Period.

    3. There can be several reasons for your suggestion to stop patrolling black areas. The two that immediately jump to mind to me for what you’re trying to communicate are:
black citizens in black neighbourhoods are not capable of being full citizens for some reason (including cultural or racial deficiencies), so therefore the usual protections from hoods and gangsters (that apply to most under the law) should not apply to them.
the cost of doing the right thing (protecting the innocent within their communities) is too high for the officers because of the racially charged cultural environment, therefore it is too risky for any good people (in society in general) to try to protect any good people within that society (unfortunately meaning that they’re not worth protecting like the normal citizens in general society).

I’m curious to know if either of these was your intent. If it was something else, please enlighten me.

    4. The officer in question had 18 prior complaints about him. One of the other officers had five complaints.

      https://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/world/minneapolis-officer-who-knelt-on-george-floyd-s-neck-had-18-previous-complaints-against-him-police-1.4959989

Yes I know some criminals are in the habit of filing false complaints against police officers. But this officer had at least two which involved disciplinary actions and notes on file.

I also note the mayor or Minneapolis is a Democrat. The Police Chief is black. Who is questioning their role in this whole affair?

      1. The one with 17 complaints was also involved in three shootings, two of them fatal, the one with five complaints sent a guy to hospital with permanent facial injuries city had to pay to settle the lawsuit.

  3. L? Where are you L?

Are you still calling for murdering the police because it looks bad otherwise? This is why we’re better off waiting for the evidence. Hopefully the full report can provide more details that actually get seen.

    1. Not murdering, just summarily executing. Executing as just, righteous retribution for the murder they have committed. Cold, sadistic, premeditated murder. All four should be hanged by the neck until dead, publicly, in front of the PD with all other jackbooted thugs in the city required to watch and cheer. No amount of copsucking is going to change that. Pity they will never receive justice, neither did Mohamed Noor when he executed Justine Damond.

        1. As was your vote towards becoming a police state where the enforcers face no accountability and get to run amoc.

          1. You’re the one stating that no accountability applies. I want to wait for the facts to surface. Why the rush to judgement?

Isn’t that the very definition of prejudice? Pre-judging?

          2. Nobody is rushing to judgement. You witness a murder you call it what it is. It really is that simple.
Would you defend them if they weren’t cops?
If the public anger wasn’t directed at them?
Did you defend Mohamed Noor? Do you think justice was served in the case too?
Did you defend Manuel Ramos too? Do you think justice was served in that case too?
Plenty more examples available you need but to ask.

          3. “You witness a murder you call it what it is.” Like the beatdown of Rodney King, 10 seconds of video showed it was a beatdown. 2 minutes of video showed it wasn’t. Why the rush to judge? Can’t we wait until the facts are in evidence?

If you don’t trust the collection of evidence then that is a separate argument. If you insist that the first view of data must be the correct one, then you favour lynching. And I will be your enemy because you’re contrary to justice. So be it. Can we agree to disagree?

          4. All evidence has been collected. What is left is legal hairsplitting and attempts to get those worthless thugs off on some technicality.

Again I ask, do you think justice was served with Noor or Ramos? Do you think the system works? Really? No it is broken. Beyond repair. I sincerely hope all four die in pain. That is what they deserve.

          5. The shootings of Daniel Shaver, and Walter Scott come to mind. Both caught on video. Only one person did time.

          6. Reading Colonialitsa and C_Miner, I find myself agreeing with points on both. But my sentiment finds me agreeing with the passion of Colonialista. I am f’ing sick of people, who call themselves police, behaving in this manner. While I don’t agree that the system is “beyond repair”, I think this is a much bigger problem than many SDA’ers are willing to admit.

Watch the videos of Daniel Shaver, Walter Scott, and George Floyd. The behavior of the cops involved is so over the top, as to be a marxist caricature of the free world police forces. And while the police on average do a great job, these “statistical anomalies” are not statistical anomalies. They are a sign of a growing cancer in the system.

And nor do I agree that every protestor is a Patrick Henry. But what the hell are the rest of us doing? As Kate’s infamous header says “Not showing up to riot is a failed conservative policy”. I really feel that North Americans are just too tolerant, too trusting in the system, and assume someone else will figure it all out.

          7. Agreed on the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs, Eagle.

The evidence I’m waiting for is confirmed cause of death. If he has a crushed airway, then the charge against the police should be murder 1. If he was strung out on drugs and ODed or had a stroke while in police custody, then death cannot be directly attributed to the actions of the police officers. In that case, charges related to violence may be appropriate, but no charges related to killing him.

I realize that I hadn’t explicitly stated this before. The badge should never be seen to be a “get away with illegal actions” card, those who serve do need to be held to a higher level. Which is part of why knowing the cause of death is so important.

  4. Tell you what. Lay prone on your chest. Put your hands behind your back. Then have a 200 pound man kneel on the back of your neck for 3 or 4 minutes.
Let me know how that goes for you. Or, just ask any wrestler or jiu-Jitsu practitioner what it feels like, cause thats probably easier than killing yourself.

That cop knew exactly what he was doing and he didn’t care. You don’t do that except to cause pain and injury. Yet here come all the conservatives to defend the LEOs again. Weeks of these guys trampling all over your civil rights and acting like little tyrants and you are right back to defending the indefensible. Can’t fix stupid.

    1. Not many are defending the officer but if the guy who died was white no one would have cared. Policing black communities needs to stop.

      1. Policing Democrat controlled States has to end….Not that many Black folks tonight, most are white loser types… Flat Liners that just need more drugs. Thermal Crowd control would work …Cooking a few livers would get attention… facial recognition been used….

      2. Irrelevant.

Also, a lot of jackboot lickers are defending the cops, including here at SDA.

        1. Who needs evidence when you can stage a good ol’ fashion lynching, eh? I didn’t figure you for a Democrat.

          1. Everyone seen the evidence. Lynching was what the cops did.

We’re past evidence. That has been already clearly established. We’re merely discussing adequate punishment. Public hanging would be adequate.

          2. We’ve seen all we need to see. Evidence be damned. Kill the XYZ (whatever the target of the week is).

Hardly a recipe for a just society.

          3. Yes we have seen all the evidence. They have murdered him. They deserve gallows. It really is that simple.

P.S. The target of the week is a cop who have murdered someone. We could easily have a new target every week.

        2. Four cops, one kneeling on the guys neck, three standing around, the guy on the ground was cuffed. Drunk or not if four cops can’t safely handle one drunk then then it is a good thing they were all fired and the cop with knee on the guys neck has been charged, how far this goes is the question.

  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2G0tPbRrbs Tim Pool video on this.

Apparently they already had him handcuffed and in the back of the car, and then pulled him out and threw him down.
The cop stayed kneeling on his neck for over 2 minutes after he was non responsive, and even failing to find a pulse did not get them to release the hold. This is the same police department that shot the blond Australian American woman who called them for help.

  6. The video I saw was a heavy weighted man’s knee on man’s neck, then this heavy police officer rolled his knee on this man’s neck…now when this happened the man having this done to him would be in extreme pain. Maybe we could have someone demonstrate this on the police officer do we have any takers now remember you have to weigh about 250-300pounds and lets see what happen to this police office when this is done to him….I VOTE YES FOR THIS TO BE DONE ON THIS POLICE OFFICER any takers!!

  7. when the guy had a hard time breathing the cop should have gotten off the mguy, the cops were wrong no matter what health problems the guy had!!!

    1. That is actually the legal standard, if you do something wrong resulting in death or serious injury, it does not matter that it only resulted because of the victims health or physical condition. You have to go into court based on the victim you have, not what would have resulted for a normal person.

  8. Does not matter. If it looks like he killed the guy, there are going to be riots. The position of the media towards Trump on this, though, is concerning, Trumps Tweet suggested looting would precipitate shooting. The media immediately jumped on this, assuming that “shooting” means killing and that Trump is favoring a death penalty for looting. I think he was just being forceful, plus there is that good rhyme “looting” and “shooting”. What is worth noting is that Trump is often attacked for his words — what he says, and of course his words are frequently and deliberately misconstrued. But when Obama oversees an actual gun running operation (Fast and Furious) the media does not seem to notice. And this is why no one believes the media any more. Their venom against Trump is so twisted and over the top, that their messages no longer have any credibility. I’m looking at you, David Frum. Frum and many other journalists of his ilk have lost any integrity they may have previously had.

  9. Amongst the elders of my tribe there are stories about when the praetorians did not show up when called. Poor people’s leader Caligula, cut up into pieces by the disgruntled. This is not taught in school no more. Too many adjectives.

    1. Time to repeat history again? It’s amazing how many will not listen. Or who think that dark ages are manageable or worthwhile.

    1. Yep, there is a reason why they went to court to defend a formal explicit low IQ job requirement against charges of discrimination by high IQ applicants.

    2. And I’ve met some nice ones, good people. Salt of the Earth. Your mileage may vary.

If you only know one thing about someone, and use that to extrapolate the rest of their life, judgement, and desires, then that means you’re a bigot (and I’m not trying to imply that you are, only that your statement didn’t say anything that would preclude that possibility). Are you willing to look beyond the badge to recognize that’s not all that defines police?

      1. “Are you willing to look beyond the badge to recognize that’s not all that defines police?”

When they stop acting like an occupation force.
        When they stop fighting accountability.
When they stop defending other cops when other cops commit crime including murder.
When they become accountable for all the murders of convenience aka qualified immunity.
When they stop routinely perjuring themselves in courts.
When they stop cynically playing the system.

        Until then? No.

Here, chew on this classic by Mark Steyn: https://www.steynonline.com/6524/cigars-but-not-close

          1. yawn. A link to show “I disagree.” Speak for yourself, you’re displaying that you want Hollywood to speak for you. I can appreciate disagreement. I disdain the idea that “I must add emphasis to my argument by posting what someone else said.” Particularly when the referenced post has nothing to do with the topic under discussion.

          2. It was a perfectly reasonable response to your snarky post above that.

Again, read that Steyn’s article I have linked.

      2. Incorrect, we can not possibly “get to know” all the finer details of the life and character of everyone we must interact with, because we have shit to do, we have to make judgements based on limited information all the time. If someone is acting like an asshole, I am going to assume he is an asshole. While there are many examples of exceptions within groups, groups themselves tend to conform to stereotypes, and those stereotypes are very useful, you actually couldn’t live without them. If people don’t want to go through life being thought of as thugs or bullies or criminals, they should take care not to behave as thugs or bullies or criminals. If police departments cared about such things, they would purge their ranks of bad apples at the earliest opportunity. The fact is that to be in charge of a police department, one must first be a recruit, and the IQ limitation and the indoctrination kicks in, and all this behavior is considered normal, the only sin is getting caught on camera where they can not conceal it.

        1. Fully agreed that if someone is acting like an asshole that they’re probably an asshole. And that reliance on behavior is going beyond “they’re police, therefore they’re scum.”

The group of individuals that I’ve met who are police don’t meet the characteristics you’re attributing to them. As I said, your mileage may vary.

  10. There is no justification whatsoever for what this cop did. Also there is no justification for this cop still being employed as an officer given his history of causing unnecessary deaths in previous incidents. The guy is a psychopathic thug, and his 3 cohorts also need to be charged for allowing this murder to happen.

  11. Regardless of what is thought, or what is witnessed, due process must be followed.
That means no matter how gaulling it may be, that the accused must be brought to trial before punishment is made.
No matter how despicable the crime, the law grants innocence until proven guilty in court.
The gratification that comes from mob rule is short lived and only brings anarchy.
We best give the benefit of the law without conditions or there will be no protection when the mob turns its blood lust on the innocent.
We do this because we have no ability to peer into the minds of others, only God knows that.

  12. Coroner producing bullshit to please the police and prosecution? Wouldn’t be the first time. The millionth time would be coming in low. I would doubt that heart failure could reliably be diagnosed as distinct from asphyxia. Damnedest thing happens. You quit breathing, in either case.

  13. “The autopsy revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation.”

I suspect a man laying handcuffed on the ground facedown, head turned sideways, with the force of a 200+ pound man, driving his knee into his neck, resulted in a partial carotid sleeper hold due to the compression forces on the carotid artery, almost like a frontal triangle choke from guard position if your into MMA. Held long enough, results in death by manual strangulation. It is always deadly, especially if you have underlying health problems. This is common knowledge.

What we do know is this:
The practice of subduing a handcuffed suspect laying facedown by placing the full weight of your body via your knee onto the back of a handcuffed suspects neck, is not standard procedure, nor taught.

In the video, you can hear the officer taunting Floyd to get up and into the car, knowing full well he couldn’t. I would suspect this was done for the benefit of his body camera, which couldn’t view Floyd, but could capture the audio, and put it into the record to bolster a resisting arrest charge and the use of force, in case the officer needed it.

After being told that the suspect had no pulse, this officer continued to keep his knee full force on the suspects neck for a full 2 minutes afterwards, only releasing this hold when paramedics arrived.

If anything, this officer and the other 3 involved should be charged with 2nd degree murder.

    1. Here are the relevant statutes for Minnesota.
      Murder in the Second Degree
      https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/609.19
      Murder in the Third Degree
      https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/609.195
My reaction is that if the prosecutor wants a conviction, the wording of the third degree statute is the way to go. If you want to make yourself look good, right until the accused is acquitted and you get lots of protests in the aftermath, fine go ahead with murder in the second degree.

  14. “Underlying health conditions” seem to the right’s answer to every death from police killings to COVID casualties. RedState is garbage btw.

  15. The race to judgement is a trait our progressive comrades seek to exploit and expand.
Soon enough we will get some facts and eventually a jury will decide.
However as we have repeatedly been misinformed and stampeded toward illogical and premature conclusions, some caution is in order.

The refusal to give these cops the same due process they must provide to every scumbag they deal with daily, is flat out disgusting.

Constantly condemning the cops and then complaining about the quality of citizen who choses those jobs is cheap, petty and self perpetuating.
I have worked with many X cops, resourceful talented tradesmen..Those that would talk about the “Force” mostly left as early as they could, because the Force changed.
Away from the concept of Peace Keeping and common sense application of the rules, toward a central command with zero decision making permitted to the man on site.
Join the biggest street gang in the country, stopped being a joke in the 1990s and we lost a ton of civic minded policemen.
Now we have political police, who are very useful to their clients and utterly useless and dangerous to their hosts.
Policing is impossible without the consent and cooperation of the people being protected..
And our progressive comrades seem to see some advantage in destroying Law and Order.
This will not turn out as they seem to expect.
Civilization is a very thin veneer stretched over a very primitive critter.
If you have seen this skin break, you know what I mean.
If you do not know how thin civil society is? Well you might get to learn real soon.

We are not rational beasts and have no “natural” tendencies to decency nor fair play.
And the users of tools, those of us who choose to build, grow ,create and manage such things, can be very creative in the ways of destruction.
    It is a choice.
The ways of destruction are always available, with predictable outcomes.
The banality of evil, always shortsightedly lusting for quick gains, with consequences of longterm pain and destruction.
The Colt Peacemaker was not misnamed.

The lessons of the second world war are lost to us,veterans would seldom talk, but these farmers, builders and such put their lives on hold to destroy professional armies.
Mouseholing of Ortona &The Flame thrower come to mind.
But every person who has spent their life learning how to keep the genie in the bottle, knows well how to let it out .
The choice is always with you.
    What do you chose?

    1. Doesn’t matter. Genie’s out.
Charge 4 cops with 1st degree murder instantly:
      Riot
Assign cops to administrative duties, investigate thoroughly, prosecute if lawful:
      Riot
Rapid pace investigation, 1 coroner, charge 1 cop with 3rd degree murder:
      Riot

  16. Inane to pretend like the police treatment of Floyd didn’t cause his death. We all know it did. Our society needs to come up with a non-lethal way to incapacitate those resisting arrest. Chloroform, perhaps? A tranquilizer gun? We can take down a 5-ton elephant without hurting it, but give us a 5’10” man, and it’s euthanasia all the way…

And if it’s not legal to chloroform someone or shoot them with a tranquilizer gun, it shouldn’t be legal to truss them up with their hands behind their backs and then lie on their neck for a couple of minutes either.

    1. Remember Rodney King? The non-lethal ways failed repeatedly. It ended poorly for all involved (Rodney in the short term, everyone else in the long term).

      1. Victoria, I understand your desire to prevent unnecessary harm. But first, please remember, this is (or was) a civil society, not “Wild Kingdom.” As such, measures must be in place to take out transgressors including bad cops.
Think about it. Would you want this cop (or any for that matter) running around with tranquilizers and chloroform?
Both are eazily abused. Chloroform can easily be overused (immagine what this cop would do with chloroform and a rag) and other tranquilizers are easily converted for the narcotics market.
Please read the attached report. (there is a page button)
Dead guy was claiming he couldn’t breathe before he was pinned .
“I can’t breathe” is like a meme now so the cop didn’t buy it. The rest is just a55h0le cop 5h1t, which reflects his training. Remember we used to have law enforcement (probably before your days) now its “criminal justice .” It’s crap.
