Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
The penalty for just-the-flu is apparently death.
The business model of the mainstream media was never to speak truth to power. It was to help scumbags sell you crap you didn’t need—whether it was overpriced soap flakes or the government’s latest mad social engineering scheme.
Turns out refusing to criticize Beijing (for fear of offending Overseas Chinese readers, advertisers, and customers of real estate firms) and helping start an epidemic that forced the government to effectively ban the sale of crap nobody needs, reducing their advertising revenue to close to zero, wasn’t a smart business decision.
The Toronto Star is openly admitting that it, along with Postmedia, is staring bankruptcy in the face within months, if not weeks.
https://www.thestar.com/opinion/contributors/2020/03/27/our-media-is-on-the-brink-of-mass-failure.html
Torstar is gasping for air, begging for a ventilator, when it’s obvious that the only appropriate treatment is a lethal injection of Chinese fentanyl.
Newspapers (print) are going the way of the buggy whip. They will only exist in digital and only if they have content readers are willing to pay for.
I read the National Post as I subscribe. If I’m traveling I will grab the print edition but it is a rare occasion.
Toronto has 4 dailies. They won’t all survive and the libranos shouldn’t try and save them.
It’s going to be True North or The Rebel. Everyone can become an Ezralite.
“Everyone can become an Ezralite.” (superb pun!), They’ll have to become brave as Maccabees, too.
Is the Rebel, the media equivalent of the Shepherd boy, David, armed w/only a sling facing down Goliath? Yes.
The recession of 2020 will likely bankrupt most legacy media except the CBC (Goliath). Radio will survive. TV once the pandemic boost in audience expires, as will some of their audience, will struggle w/fewer staff to be little more than shills for P.R. firms/gov’t. press releases.
The Rebel, TNC, The Post Millenial, and internet long form discussion, w/the competent, is the 21th Century’s free press.
I love this line “[the media] starved of advertising revenues for years…” as though they are being prevented from earning revenue. The fact is no one wants to buy newspapers anymore because they are so shitty.
Exactly. If I wanted Liberal propaganda I would join their party.
Remember the good old days when the media bird Shiite newspapers
told us not to ‘Worry, But Be Happy.’
Now they are downsizing their employees, and paychecks.
BUT DON’T WORRY, YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY.
IBM AND LINUX ARE HIRING.
How many places telling lies in print does one country really need?
They used to lecture us with a bit of contempt.
Then they started to get preachy.
Shrillness was added until condemnation and vilification were everyday goals.
When you dance with the crows, you eventually have to pay the piper.
The best and funniest part of that piece was the torstar is in financial trouble and they tell us that quite possibly THE ONLY CREDIBLE NEWS SOURCE LEFT WILL BE THE CBC. Now have to clean up my key board!!…Steve O
And the CBC is underfunded!!
They want their budget doubled!! What is that saying? ” Don’t let a crisis go to waste.” My only hope after all is said and done with this is that the CBC and TORSTAR cease to exist.
Reminder That; Best summation of the pathetic toronto stars whinging. I hope they, along with the rest of the lieing ctv’s theebeethee’s globulls and globes repeaters have to sit with a red solo cup begging, on the corner of Dumbass and Yang or whatever the greenhair thousand piercing streets are called in that s–thole city.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. I hope in five years time that the homeless shelters are full of Torstar “reporters” and CBC “anchors”
But it is unlikely. They are Libranos. They will have weaseled, wormed and snaked their way into Senate positions, political appointages, lobbying positions and special commissions.
Parasites. They find a way.
