  1. The Liberals are throwing out so many billions of dollars they (we) don’t have on this virus crisis right now, they’ll probably think they can sneak a few more over to the CBC and we’ll never notice.

    1. cc: The CBC gets $1,200,000,000 of our money each year. That works out to about $137,000 per HOUR! Which really must piss off the Toronto Star, because it takes them a week to pull in only $115,000! Where’s the fairness in that? /sarc

  2. they don’t think they’re wankers, because they are all wearing new shoes. really shiny!

  3. So they have a captive audience at home and still no one is watching CBC? Truly shocking.

  4. Strange move. Right now is when The State needs a strong influence in disseminating information. The People are hungry for information, especially about their local situation. They will turn to other sources, and some of those are critical of State Leadership and Policy. Since there are people dying, and other people are losing everything (jobs, careers, investments, relatives, friends), people will become untethered to ‘I have something to lose so I better not grumble and not mutiny’. The ability challenged ruling elites have made a mistake, a dumb mistake here. Sounds like they caved to some third tier union leadership tapeworm. This is the prologue to a coup.

    1. Nobody was watching local CBC supper-hour news before. Why would it matter now? The CBC is just replacing all that with the national CBC News Channel feed anyway.

    2. “Right now is when The State needs a strong influence in disseminating information. ”

That is so true. Pity the State doesn’t disseminate any information – just lies and propaganda. “Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has the situation well in hand – Canadians have nothing to worry about!” – shyeah, right…

  5. Down here in the Twin Cities Minnesota, the private broadcast television stations are adding newscasts. Examples:

Channel 5KSTP /ABC starts at 4:30 runs until 7:00, and transfers over to the 45/5.2 sub channel for another couple of hours, while the National Good Morning America News is on. At 11:00 they have an hour long newscast, and at 12:00 Noon they have another different one on 45/ 5.2 subchannel. They start the evening broadcast at 5:00, and with the national news run until 7:00. Then the early news starts at 9:00 on 45 /5.2, and they run a 35 minute nightly news at 10:00 pm on 5. Then ABC Nightline for 30 minutes after Kimmel, and the ABC Overnight News starts about 2:30 to 4:30 AM.

Channel 9, KMSP Fox is similar. 4:30 to 10; 11 to noon, 5:00 to 7:00, and 7:00 to 8:00 on their 29/ 9.2 subchannel; early news from 9 pm to 10:30, replays of the 10:00 news at midnight on 29/9.2, and replays of the 9pm at 2am on channel 9.

They must have an audience and be making money off their commercials. They run enough of them.

And yes, the news is important. So many strange and unusual things are happening RIGHT NOW!

Fortunes are being lost. Fortunes will be made.
This time next year will be the new normal.

  6. CBC is being placed on a ventilator, having trouble breathing, caused by too many panic attacks during newscasts. Diagnosis: bilateral, interstitial pneumonia .

Additional burden: China virus, (whoops, now they’re having another panic attack), because there is a shortage of ventilators compared to those requiring them.

Doctors are forced to tri-age, to decide whose not likely to make it e.i. multiple issue sufferers:
Pre-existing conditions: adipose of mind and body(due to under use), chronic smoker (smoke&mirrors, maryjane), past best before date, rapidly approaching expiry date. Cardiac arrest money paddles? No longer responding…

Palliative recommendation in this case: Exorcism… then last rites.

    1. The most humane and cost-effective treatment would be euthanasia.

Back in reality, don’t expect that to be recommended—at least not for the CBC.

  7. Excellent, I’ve always thought that the CBC is one of the worst things about Canada.

And blaming this on the slowdown caused by Chinese Flu is rich, since when did the CBC care about things like having no audience / viewers, having no paying advertisers or spending too much of that endless taxpayer money?!

  8. I am absolutely SHOCKED that we have not seen an expose on the investments of Power Corp in China on the CBC.

    https://www.powercorporation.com/en/companies/investment_platforms/

Just look for the word China. Like China Asset Management which is a $178 billion company.
Hay, I wonder if that’s why PM Blunder Boy never closed the airports to China?
He wouldn’t put Cdns at risk to COVID 19 just because Power Corp is yanking his chain, would he?
    OK, it’s a stupid question.

    1. Really old news to me, but Kunajians are supine in their belief that Chinah is a benevolent source of goodness. Know what Sidewinder was/is? China via Hong Kong. The Chinese behemoth pretty much owns a goodly chunk of down town real estate, across Kanaduh. I have old corporate flow charts of Power Corp’s holdings with their China File boldly presented. Today, not so much like they don’t want you to know how much Chinah OWNS us. Les Vendues chez the LPOC have made a killing on servicing Chinah’s needs here. Believe me, Jean Chretien would cackle with glee. You think Mitt Romney is a traitorous sell out, the Quebc Inc. Connection, French or moved to Tronna H’English would be embarrassing, if it were widely known, but hey Hockey night in Kanaduh keeps the folks satisfied, Raptors, too. Think Sock Buoy is where he is for his mind? Son of a commie lover, always a commie lover, a useful idiot in my books. Most of the Tronna – BC Elite are, too. Kanadjians are stupid with capital letters.

    2. No,it’s not a stupid question. Most folks who are not political junkies are not aware of the vast empire that is Power Corporation, nor of their huge influence on the Canadian political realm, especially in Quebec.

Power Corp. had the influence to keep Canada out of the Iraq wear because it might have interfered with their investments in Iraqi oil, plus the fact the Canadian PM’s daughter was married to one of the sons of Power Corp’s owner didn’t hurt either. So if Power wants Trudeau to do anything on the China file, he’ll do it or the might of that corporation will see Trudeau back at WPG Academy as a part time drama teacher again.

If Power Corp gets sufficiently tired of Trudeau, they will ensure their “Boy” in the CPC takes over for a few years, (Peter McKay), and everything will carry on just fine, as always.

      1. DM

Indeed. Power Corp has a horse (or two) in every race. They couldn’t do anything with the way the Alliance/PC’s came together and Harper (surprise) become leader.

I’m sure they have vowed, Never Again.

  9. This is news. President Trump crossed out Coronavirus and wrote in Chinese Virus in his Press Conference Notes.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/jabinbotsford/status/1240701140141879298

I bet some State Department wienie had a stroke.

If it was me, I would tell the truth. It was likely an unfinished biological weapon being developed at the Wuhan Institute of Virology Lab BSL4 facility that accidentally escaped. Why do you think the Chinese Patient Zero was never identified? They had an obvious attachment to the lab. They or their significant other worked at the lab.

      1. If the Chinese Communist Party or the People’s Liberation Army wanted to release it on purpose, Hong Kong would have been a much more evil, but effective location. It would stop the Hong Kong Freedom Protesters. The one hundred or even one thousand biggest protest leaders could have been easily disappeared during the ensuing lock downs and quarantines. The Chinese Communist Party would have spun their aid and assistance as reasons why the rebellious Hong Kongers should submit to the benevolent Communist Overlords.

Hong Kong is an international crossroads. The Chinese Coronavirus would have spread widely across the globe before anyone really knew what had happened.

Of course if the civilized world ever publicly confirms that this was a Chinese Biological Weapon, I would not be surprised if Wuhan and Beijing would be nuked by multiple parties as a warning to the World.

  10. But instead, the Corpse will continue to make dramas and dramadies, that, as it turns out, no one watches either. It’s a make work program for drama school graduates

  11. Anybody interested in real news right now will learn to love the Epoch Times.

Yes, it’s a cult newspaper. It’s also the only newspaper with coverage of Chinese affairs worth using as anything but substitute TP.

The lockdown, of course, has only succeeded in hiding the reality of the pandemic in China from gullible western journalists. As a means of controlling the virus, it has utterly failed.

Hospitals remain overwhelmed. God help you if you fall ill from something that isn’t Wuhan virus.

Reliable testing for the virus has ceased. No Chinese doctor in his right mind cares to be the next Dr. Li. Everybody is told he is negative, no matter how obviously ill he is.

Don’t believe the virus is contained in China until three things happen:

    1. Schools and universities re-open nationwide.

    2. Russia and North Korea re-open their borders to Chinese tourists.

    3. The Chinese rubber-stamp legislature holds an annual meeting as usual.

Only after all these things come to pass is President Trump likely to seriously consider re-opening the US border with Chinada. The chances of that happening before his second inauguration are close to zero.

    1. Excellent analysis. The Chinese are supposedly only back up to 25% of manufacturing output. Even that is probably an exaggeration.

  12. Something else you’ll never see on CBC:

    Dear Greta,

So you got what you wanted.

“System change & Economic Slowdown” is a real thing now.

Airplanes, industry, jobs, restaurants, recreation, and schools are all shut down.

Instead we have fear, poverty, misery, joblessness, economic ruin, and a bleak future.

    Happy now?

    Anthony Watts

    1. Shouldn’t that read “got what she was asking for”.
The reason I say that is because she had no idea what she was asking for, nor did her direct handlers, they are useful idiots.
As idiots, we can’t presume they knew what they where asking for, because if they did, they would have had their abusers arrested.

  13. People want NEWS. People will PAY FOR news. That is mostly why we read SDA, not for Ms.McMillan’s political opinions.

  14. Thanks for the news about CBC. I wouldn’t otherwise have known about their cut backs. I last watched CBC in a previous millenium. Well, except for a few minutes in Winnipeg airport a few years back when EVERY TV in the terminal was on CBC and more than half in French.

  15. The dear leader will take care of this little problem. He’ll declare the CBC an essential service because how else will Canadians learn about what they must do during this crisis and so he’ll hand out another billion or two to the CBC. After all in his fantasy world money grows on trees and just falls to the earth begging to be used.

  16. I wonder if this was done more because TPTB were afraid the local newsreaders would go off the reservation in the face of evidence contrary to the central narrative. If it all gets sent from the Home Office, they can exert a LOT more control over content and delivery.
