      1. Battery life – ZERO. Not to worry, it’s a Porsche (pro tip: that’s a two-syllable word!) … it’s sure to have a bumper-to-bumper 100k mi. Warranty. However there is no such warranty covering the OCCUPANTS of said vehicle. Sorry … YOU … roll the longevity dice on e-vehicles … no thanks.

  1. When your business model includes the government subsidizing you while legislating your technological competition off the road within a certain time frame, you don’t need to worry as much about your technological efficacy. IOW, you’ve got to brake a few eggs when making a rent seeker’s omelette.

  2. That’s a bit surprising. The available data says electric cars generally have lower fire rates than ICE, but Teslas have higher than average.

  3. It is only worse if the self igniting fires are due not only to Musk, but also the entire immature EV technology. This one came from Porsche, who knows a thing or two about building cars.
Hint: if you are unfortunate enough to own an EV, don’t ever park it in a garage.

    1. – And so you’s all know, this is one of the first Porsche Taycan EV’s imported onto the continent.

      – I’m sure Elon is happy to note that his competitors’ deathtraps suffer the same bugs his do.

  4. The NHTSA isn’t gonna do a gawd damned thing. Why? Because ecars are … “the future”. Investigation complete … nothing to see here. Just as complete as the “Biden corruption investigation” … filed under: do nothing, but say you did.

    1. 5/8” type-x gyp.bd. …. which provides 1hr fire protection between garage U-occupancy, and house R-3 occupancy. Not asbestos … but the core has fibers and chemicals which add fire protection to the gypsum. I assume the walls (and ceiling) where the gyp.bd. is missing … are outside walls – not separating the garage from house.

  5. Big batteries are scary things. They are ALWAYS able to discharge at a far higher rate than they can be safely charged. The results of a runaway discharge are a fire that cannot be stopped until the stored energy is completely released. Then, if the battery uses something like the combustible metal lithium, it will continue to burn until that is consumed (you can’t extinguish that fire with water).

Why do you think that Diesel-Electric submarines are moving to fuel cell technology instead of batteries for power while submerged?

  6. In Florida that’s a nat gas / coal powered vehicle. The renewable power portion is about enough to power the sound system.

  7. Toasty.
People really do not get the threat.
If you can show me a battery that is the energy equivalent to a tank of gas,I can show you a cute little bomb, with quite the potential.
When a battery starts collapsing internally we have no way to stop it.
If you are lucky you can keep it cool enough to save surrounding property.
Environmentally there is no more foul mess than a burnt and melted battery.
Poisons for all, ground water contamination alround..Yes Drive an electric car..for the environment.
I can’t wait to see the scrap yards of the future as these heavy toxic piles of waste leach into the soil.
