Following the disclosure of the new evidence on Jan. 20 of last year, journalists and politicians rushed to delete tweets that cast the high school students as the face of American racism. And earlier this month, Nick Sandmann, the student whose alleged “smirk” was seen in a widely publicized photo of the incident, settled a defamation lawsuit against CNN. Sandmann’s lawyer says more lawsuits are on the way.
But as Soave reports this week in Reason, there are some journalists who refused to acknowledge how badly the story had been botched.
It’s not an outlier. Because, as agenda journalism has learned, a stubbornly promoted false account can and often does survive contact with the facts.
Related: The unbearable lightness of Peggy Noonan, and a conservative publication by now would have admitted it was wrong, apologized, and celebrated.
(h/t Ontario John)

Right off the bat, Kay displays his bias. Every time there is an act of xenophobia, the media calls it right-wing. This too is a fallacy.
The fake new is the new standard and the “journalists” insist that it is.
Full honor to the exceptions.
The notion that being conservative requires that one support the unethical narcissist occupying Whitehouse is nonsense. Many conservatives are people who believe that it is not enough to promote conservative policies, but that these policies must be promoted using ethical means. Many conservative are not hypocrites and understand that if Trump is allowed to get away with his grotesque abuse of power then democratic presidents will do 10 times worse. Many conservatives can understand the difference between Obama withholding aid because there was a legitimate fear it will be siphoned on by corrupt politicians and withholding aid because Trump wanted dirt to help with his re-election. Many conservatives understand that if a President is allowed to obstruct a legitimate investigation by congress then the checks and balances in the system will be forever broken.
I realized these arguments will fall on deaf ears because blind partisanship has replaced rational thought. If Trump gets away without even being censured for his conduct then it will be very dark day for the US republic.
Hey Tim.
Concern Troll much?
“his grotesque abuse of power ”
“I realized these arguments will fall on deaf ears because blind partisanship has replaced rational thought. If Trump gets away without even being censured for his conduct then it will be very dark day for the US republic.”
What was that bit of the constitutional rights of USA citizens?
The right not to be executed by the state with out a fair trial and due process?
See President Trump “abusing his authority” in that manner.?
From me to your Progressive emotional POV.”Evidence? We don’t need no stinking evidence”
“We feel”.. Orange Man bad.
On topic, the media has lied for so long, that omissions of fact are their normal position.
Most logical people view the news headlines with,”What the rest of the story”?
Canadian Media has gotten so useless, that we are not willing to pay for what they offer us.
Misinformation and blatant refusal to report error…standard Presstitute business, for “The Narrative” must go on.
White school boys in MAGA Hats..Racists for sure.
We don’t need to investigate, the race, the hats, the age and obvious sexuality of course they are attacking the “native hero”.
Just like the white supremists and Alt Right extremists CBC tells of..they are everywhere, everywhere civil society is doomed.
Of course CBC cannot name one,so weak that they have to go trolling in the States to find a Canadian Nazi.Well that and anyone they slander will sue them.
Pushing the president of Ukraine to publically investigate his political rival is abuse of power.
Getting his personal lawyer involved in negotiations with another state is abuse of power.
Refusing to cooperate with a legitimate exercise of congressional oversight is obstruction of justice.
Of course, like the alarmists defending climate scientists after climategate, you want to cling to premise Trump is innocent because he has not confessed. You wave away the evidence produced to date as “circumstantial” or “driven by an agenda”. I did not buy those arguments when alarmists made them 10 years and I don’t buy them now.
It is worth nothing that media bias against conservatives is a real problem but that does not mean that every story about a conservative politician is baseless. The evidence is there for people willing to look at it without partisan blinders.
Ahh you are a mindreader, just like Adam Shiffty.
You know any of this how?
Cause the Democrats say so?
What EVIDENCE are you basing this opinion on?
Tim G.
The crime?
What is this crime?
Is diplomacy illegal?
Those 3 items are what?
Your list of crimes? Or hopes that something will stick?
Orange Man bad,we got that.
But you have cited zero evidence.
Just like that amazing congressional impeachment.
Pushing the president of Ukraine to publically investigate his political rival is abuse of power.
Getting his personal lawyer involved in negotiations with another state is abuse of power.
Refusing to cooperate with a legitimate exercise of congressional oversight is obstruction of justice.
You need to understand that the first two charges actually describe an exercise of Presidential powers, inherent to the Office of the President.
That they are described exclusively by Congressional Democrats (and one Independent) as abuse is merely a confirmation of the mean-spirited political posturing ongoing since 2016.
The adjective ‘legitimately’ coupled with ‘exercise’ in the third sentence is correct only in the sense that the ill-considered Impeachment follows lawful procedure vested in the HOCongress.
Generally speaking, Canadians are as ignorant of American politics as many in Canada believe Americans are ignorant of world affairs.
That’s understandable as Canadian media abides by and presents the Democrat narrative.
One would expect that if Canadians were neutrally informed by Canadian media about American politics, that there would be a similar divide of opinion here as found in America, or roughly 50-50.
Family members travelled to America in the summer of 2016, carrying the mindset of virtually everyone in their peer group, that Hillary Clinton was hugely popular and favoured to win the 2016 Election.
There they encountered, upon asking, that in fact Trump was the overwhelming choice of the people they encountered.
What had occurred, without them realizing it at the time, is that they had stepped outside the media bubble as presented in Canada. and were ignorant, rather than fully informed, of American politics.
One gives leeway to Canadians who opine that the Impeachment process currently underway is righteous, due the ‘Trump/Republicans are evil’ narrative preached constantly by our ‘neutral’ national media sources.
SDA members are largely animated by the subtext “This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio – “You don’t speak for me.”.
Please elaborate on Trumps supposed abuse of power..??
The ONLY abuse of power in the US Govt and it’s agencies is Totally that of the disease inserted by Obama, Hildebeest et all)..mainly: FBI, DOJ, and their outliers.
Stuff your Orange man Bad crap and suggest you stop watching g MSM. That we up here would have someone as concerned for his country and it’s people’s as,Donald Trump is…priceless.
TDS on display… with a touch of smug arrogance to boot.
The time he pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate a political opponent on no basis and illegally withheld aid to Ukraine to get it done. Amongst others.
Since you said no basis, what was there to pressure? What were the Ukranians going to do, cancel private citizen Joe Bidens senior discount Kiev Metro pass?
Trump and conservativism are not equivalent. In fact, in many ways Trump isn’t particularly conservative — he has done little, for example, to rein in the deficit. And his conservativism is a separate question from whether he is competent.
In short, questioning whether Trump is a good president does not make one non-conservative.
Scott Adams isn’t debunking anything. He’s living in his own parallel universe. Trumpworld.
UnMe isn’t debunking anything. He’s living in his own parallel universe. UnMeWorldOfOne
Scott’s worth well north of $100 million. All on his wit and understanding of communication. And you?
Is anything at all going to happen to Nathan Phillips for his role in this matter? First he taunts some young Trump supporters by beating his drum in their faces. Then he lies about what happened and claims those high school students were harassing him.
I guess Nick Sandmann’s attorneys know to go after the deep pockets. And I’m sure Philip’s pocket are very shallow. But is that faux Vietnam Vet going to get any sanction at all?
He’s apparently on the list of people being sued. I expect they’re going after the easiest and wealthiest targets first. Winning or settling there makes it easier to survive a motion to dismiss, and scares the crap out of the smaller fish, making it more likely they’ll settle without an expensive trial.
Its interesting to note how effective is mass media cartel on feeble minds.
In spite of all the available evidence they insist that Trump did something. is
In fact the POTUS is responsible for the foreign relations as the US constitution points out.
If there is anything wrong, it of course is the doings of the former VP and his family. The VP said so for everyone to see and hear.
“He pressured”, means absolutely nothing, it is just added for nonsense sophistry.
The false hate affair that the mass media cartel tried to spin into racism is only the latest example of the “journalism” of our time.
Sandmann had to sue of necessity so the punishment for gross ideological misinterpretation of events is out in the open. There is no other way to defend oneself against the mass media cartel.
The President under his Constitutional powers is the chief law officer of the United States too. He wears many hats and no, none, zero administrative rules are binding upon him. It is as if he were king. Just like Obama ordering the drone killing of a American citizen overseas.
Didn’t happen, UnOne. Maybe you ought to listen to the facts presented at Saturday’s hearing. The facts Adam Schiff and friends left out in their 23-hour rant.
more accuracy in the noonan link than Ive seen in any other in the last couple months here @ SDA.
God Bless President TRUMP !!!!!
and God Bless Kate and all the helpers @ SDA for finding these decisively convincing TRUTHS !!!!!!!
yeeeeeeeeHAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!!!
