  3. I heard this story on the CBC news on the way home from Costco. They even broadcast the Sheriff’s elucidatory statement: “Today evil walked boldly among us, let me remind you, good people raised up and stopped it before it got worse”. Obviously CBC has had a breach of protocol but the story made my day. I couldn’t wait to tell someone. Thanks for posting Kate.

  4. The lack of information on who the shooter was and what his/her motive was is rather telling. If he’d been white I suspect we’d already know.

  5. Words do not adequately describe it … you have to see the video. Half a dozen parishioners popping up with weapons drawn. Every Christian Church in America needs to follow the example of these responsible gun owners. Well done second shooter. You saved many lives today. And dropped him with one shot. Nice! No Trial.     1. Yes; the 2nd amendment, and the other amendments that make up the Bill of Rights recognize the value and dignity of all people, as expressed in the Declaration:

      “ We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life…”

    2. 2004 Kerr vs Regina Self Defense in Canada is older than the 2nd amendment and was affirmed in this case by the SCOC and it referenced the Magna Carta as the source of that right, which is still in effect today in Canada. Wake up. Canadians have the right but never exercise that right.

      1. Watcher, let me fix that for you: Canadians refuse to fight those who would take away their unalienable rights, so Canadians have no rights, except those their masters would grant them. ( “ rights “ such as the right to suppression of speech, ie Bill C-16, etc.”

      2. The Canadian government infringes on that right. All governments tend to do that because it makes it easier for those working in government, whether politicians or civil servants. Canadians are too apt to let their governments at all levels get away with it.

      3. First, the source of rights under the 2nd Amendment is God through “The People of the United States”; this is written in the Constitution as an “observation”, a self-evident fact – the Constitution itself (a piece of parchment) does not grant these rights, much less a Court of Justices.

        Basically, you have a false premise as to the source of rights. They can neither be sourced, nor given, nor taken away by a group of men sitting in a court, nor anyone else.

        Second, Magna Carta had nothing to do with the Bill of Rights, much less the 2nd Amendment, and was never referenced by any of the Founders and drafters of the Declaration, nor the Constitution, nor any of the commentaries and Federalist papers, etc – for very good reason; nobody in the world (British and newly founded Americans included) regarded Magna Carta as some kind of transformative document nor paid it any attention –

        – because it wasn’t.

        The hyperbolic praise for Magna Carta is largely a fiction created after the Constitution was written.

        The Great Charter is not a historic document recognizing inalienable rights among equals – it is, in fact, a Peace Treaty of terms between factions that were literally at War. You can find any number of such treaties throughout the Middle Ages, early Middle Ages, all the way back and beyond Rome – including those which grant the freedoms or rights of religion and pilgrimage and worship – nobody pretends that these have anything to do recognizing “inalienable rights” which are a state of being – and thus, can neither be granted nor taken away by human institutions – those institutions can only recognize or not recognize where individual, in-born rights, from which all else follows.

        Why bother with democratic processes when the peasants under your rule were born to serve you? Magna Carta operated on this premise just as any other before and after its drafting:

        God(s) -> King -> Aristocracy -> Peasantry

        At issue was not whether the individual was to be ruled (indeed, there is not even an implication of “individual rights”), but who the rulers were.

        That’s why George Washington never intended to be a King – the philosophical and religious underpinnings in what would become America had become culturally inverted in direct contrast to Europe (including “Old-World” Britain) – God and Divine Right was expressed by the “Peasantry” in the New World philosophy:

        God -> Peasantry -> Aristocracy -> King

        Of course, this paradigm reshaped the meaning of these words, which meant new words had to be assigned – and were codified in the Constitution:

        God -> The People of the United States -> Congress -> President

        Magna Carta has no basis in American Constitutional law beyond the revisionist scribblings of modern lawyers and judges – centuries after the original documents were written and their drafters deceased. Needless to say, the treatise for “marketing” Magna Carta as a predecessor of the Constitution and Declaration has more to do craven marketing and falsifying history.

  7. Let’s compare and contrast 2 very recent events:
    * one bad guy starts shooting at innocent civilians in a place of worship, and six armed, well-trained good guys draw on him, one shoots him dead at the scene moments after he began his mayhem …case closed.
    * one bad guy attacks Jewish Hanukkah celebrants with a machete inside the home of a rabbi, but nobody there is armed so the bad guy drives away. Somebody noted his license plate so cops later nabbed him at home.
    QUESTION:
    What will it take for American Jews to arm themselves with handguns and get well-trained in their use? For the life of me I cannot understand why every American Jewish adult is not armed everywhere at all times. Six million dead Jews slaughtered in the WW2 Holocaust and regular anti-Semitic attacks these days yet American Jews refuse to arm themselves. It’s hard to feel sorry for people too dumb and/or too stubborn to defend themselves in a world that routinely seeks to attack them. Almost every adult Israeli is armed, almost no American Jewish adults are armed …WHY NOT?

    1. Davers 6 – Remember Crown Heights is in Brooklyn, and thus people have only those civil rights DeBlasio and other leftist trash will grant them. The Federal gov’t. should sue the city and state for denying people in crown heights their civil rights.

      Some Orthodox Jews in Rockland County, outside NYC, were spotted with ARs and tactical gear outside a synagogue. But, of course Orthodox Jews are the polar opposite of their non-orthodox brethren in their world outlook, in general.

    2. You’re making some big generalizations about Jews here. The Hassids are fringe cult types compared to most Jews and you can’t generalize Hassids to most Jews. And even the Hassids did defend themselves. They attacked the attacker by throwing chairs and tables at him until he was driven out. As for the guns, they aren’t allowed to carry in New York thanks to Democrat policy. And before you tell me American Jews all vote Democrat let me remind you there is a very large continent of Jews for Trump. My wife dragged me into a synagogue in Florida for a family bar mitzvah from her side and there were many Jews carrying there. I saw at least eleven obviously carrying and the parking lot was sprinkled with Trump 2016 bumper stickers. I had a TDS sufferer rush to apologize to us visiting Canadians for that.

      I’d been wondering when Gays would do the same; it appears the Orlando massacre may have opened a few eyes among their community. Gays are frequently targeted because of their pacifist reputation, just like “gun-free” restaurants are usually targeted rather than “all our waitresses are packin’ heat!” places.

      But the message is getting through – I have a nice picture I lifted off teh interwebz of a rainbow Gadsden flag with the caption, “Shoot Back”.

  13. I’ve heard cops say that when the bullets fly and the adrenaline flows, suddenly you can’t hit the side of a barn. It makes what these people did truly remarkable.

  15. Most Police are required to “shoot for qualification” once or maybe twice a year; and that is the only time you will ever see them at the range. The average policeman shoots 50 or 100 rounds per year period.

    Most people with a carry permit are similar, except they also rarely carry for real.

    A lot of the people that carry everyday, you may say religiously even, practice regularly, many take additional self defense classes, and even shoot for competition in leagues like IDPA. They shoot many hundreds or tens of thousands of rounds every year, year after year. Watch the videos. Notice no one dumped their entire magazine? One shot at a time, no bystanders were hit in the crowded church. Police are given qualified immunity, civilians with carry permits aren’t. They are responsible for every round they shoot.

    Compare and contrast to the average police shooting, like the UPS Truck in California. Over 200 rounds fired by the police. Two innocent people shot to death in the barrage. How many of them were shooting at a target other than “that Big Brown UPS Truck?” What was the name of the guy with the wallet in NYC? 41 freaking shots by the police, they even had to reload and keep shooting an unarmed man.

    1. – and not necessarily always the police’s fault; it often is, in the good ol’ days the MUC police force discovered that their S&W Model 10 revolver’s fixed backsight was good for opening beer bottles; but there’s another factor in-play here, that’s badly cut back cops’ access to weapons proficiency:

      Ammunition is expensive.

      To do it properly, you should be on the range at least once a week. Well first, that requires a range – most big city PD’s have their own indoor range, but it needs supervision because accidents on a police force range are front-page material and hideously embarrassing. Then even bought in-bulk, a box of 50 rounds of 9mm will set you back $15, and each officer should go through at least a box or two a month. And you REALLY need somebody with a measure of authority supervising your ammunition – because those “free-to-the-user” boxes of 9mm tend to walk-off on their own; another hideous public scandal in the making, I mean “Cops Stealing Stuff – OUTRAGE!!!”.

      So that’s an expensive indoor range – has to be indoors or the locals will complain to the moon about the noise – and the ventilation system alone is megabucks; and at least one full-time supervisor, you’d be better-off with two so the night shift can get its practice in – and a hefty ammo bill on top of that, the heftier the better as it shows the boys-in-blue are getting their practice in. You can see this is a big slice of police expense that the mayor’s bean-counters would be itching to get their meathooks into – especially here in Canada where the Press squeals in horror at the very concept of our guardians having naughty guns in the first place.
