The more I watch the aftermath of the recent British election, the more I realize how powerfully compelling Boris Johnson’s fiercest opponents were to help him get elected. Case in point is an outspoken feminist “journalist” named Laurie Penny who just can’t stop talking. She’s an outspoken SJW who loves to call anyone she disagrees with a fascist. She only believes in free speech she deems to be acceptable. Here’s a little sampling of her “brilliant” post-election reportage:

But honestly, nobody deserves what’s coming.
Much like a religious cult member, she can’t accept that there’s anything other than Her Truth, Her Facts, Her Reality Bubble. Dare disagree, even a little, and you’re immediately deemed to be misguided at best and pure evil at worst.

What the British have done is try something different.
If you had a fireplace, and every fire you had started in the last 80 years had resulted in a chimney fire, you need to do something different. Get the chimney cleaned, get it inspected, get it replaced; something.
It is like the voters in Portland, or Saskatoon; if you want the homeless encampments to get smaller, if you want the bike lane to go away, you have to vote for someone different. If you vote for yet another socialist swamp creature, nothing ever changes.
In my opinion, leaving the EU will make things better; but objectively speaking, all you can say logically is difference. Better is a value judgement, and my definition of better is not the same as Stalin’s, Maduro’s, or Laurie Penny’s.

I use that one myself all the time with progressives as I stop supporting charities and local community groups I used to support with my money and time. I used to belong to a group that used the tried and true method of raising private money to buy some land to keep in the public common. Found out some of the money was going to the Green Party and an anti-pipeline campaign. They are still begging me to “come back”….
Or at work where I use the ol’: “I think this opportunity should go to someone else that better reflects a more diverse Canada”.
Gets me out of ton of “voluntold” crap like putting up “holiday” decorations.

If you borrow money to buy a car, and find you can’t handle the debt, you can always sell the car and mostly get rid of the debt. But if you spend the mortgage money on booze, vacations, and restaurants, that money is gone forever. You can’t get it back by not spending money on booze, vacations, and restaurants. You have to pay it back with money that was meant for other things. Okay, you have to pay the mortgage so where will it come from? Food? TV? Cell phone? Something has to undergo a cut somewhere, there will be suffering. The definition of ‘deficit’ should be changed to mean “even bigger suffering later”. That’s why you get austerity. You don’t blame austerity on those who have to implement it, you blame it on those who did the over-spending. You see this all the time, “Tory times are tough times” only because people come to their senses after the LIB/NDP have pissed away $billions and the bills have to be paid. But of course they blame the Tories for the austerity, because they love to cut precious services.
That’s the very best part of the Conservative win in the UK: the endlessly amusing entertainment provided by the ridiculous wailing and gnashing of teeth from all the usual lunatic suspects.
This is actually one of Laurie’s milder essays. She’s not calling for civil war (if only because she knows her side would lose). In fact at times, she has been so shocked out of complacency she even stumbles close to the truth.

If she had substituted “British patriots” or merely “good, decent people” for “the left,” I doubt I could have put it better. There might even still be an Empire today, and the so-called developing world might be much more peaceful and prosperous under British rule than it is.
The British people might even control of their own money supply, and enjoy a healthy National Dividend paid monthly in debt-free cash.
