(c) we could reasonably expect some further warming in the arctic and maybe a modest sea level rise over 10-30 years. Otherwise most of the alarmist predictions are entirely conjectural and probably won’t verify.
(d) all we really need to do is monitor and respond as needed, sea level rise won’t be catastrophic and it won’t be rapid. We can outpace it if we have to do so.
(e) and to wrap it up, no matter what happens, the carbon tax strategy won’t work anyway, it will just punish people without changing the weather at all. So there is no point in that approach. Mitigation is the only strategy that makes any sense. Let the market handle shifts away from fossil fuels to alternatives. If better systems are available, people will naturally respond by purchasing them. If not, don’t try to force the issue by diverting electricity production to highly inefficient wind and (at this point) solar.
Despite the fact there is only three weeks left in the election campaign, Max Bernier still has time to establish that, unlike the rest, he is a climate realist. Scheer would be better than the other alternatives too if he actually doesn’t believe in the dogma, but it’s hard to say how resistant his party really is to following the trends for political reasons. I would welcome a less ambiguous approach from the CPC on this issue. Otherwise Max is the only sensible choice on this issue.
