This evening, something calming for those among us who were busy minding her own business when someone blew in needing “the table saw”.
 
THE TABLE SAW?
 
You mean my ancient 150 lb cast iron Beaver Rockwell table saw gathering rust in the shed with exposed wires hanging like threads… that table saw?
 
Long story short, I spent a good hour or two trying to level and position usable platforms around a table saw on uneven ground in the back yard. I finally chopped two divots in the lawn to get everything to line up. Because everything has line up when you’re trimming large sheets of heavy, floppy polyethylene material.
 
I may or may not share pictures tomorrow. Whatever happens, it’s going to be redneck special.

    1. Pure Evil! I was profoundly disturbed yesterday, by the posting of the video of the 2 men killing the baby by putting a gun in its mouth and blowing its head off. I am speaking up about this to all who will listen. If any politician comes to my door during this election cycle, I will be “blasting” their heads off and letting them that I am NOT OK with supporting the “ragheads” in the Middle East. They won’t listen of course, but I will be very loud about it.

      I bought a copy of the Heart Like A Wheel LP in the mid-1970s and, a few years ago, I looked for it on CD. I stopped by a record shop and found it and more. It was part of a budget 2 CD sset which had all of the albums that Ronstadt made with Capitol Records.

      It had songs she recorded when she sang with the Stone Ponies 50 years ago. In addition, some of the tracks were of her singing with Don Henley and Glenn Frey…. before they joined to form the Eagles. Back then, the California folk rock community was small and everyone seemed to know everyone else. It was not uncommon for people to collaborate with each other.

      Great stuff!

      1. The album Heart Like A Wheel has a lot of great material on it and was one of the best produced during the 1970s. Her version of the Hank Williams tune I Can’t Help It If I’m Still In Love With You (with Emmylou Harris singing backup) earned her a Grammy.

DCC vinyl was produced, engineered, and the lacquers cut by Steve Hoffman … who is one of the most revered name in vinyl engineering. To say these two lp’s sound sublime is a dramatic understatement. They are the absolute BEST of the BEST vinyl I own. They were mastered from the original Analogue tapes … which makes the sound so “natural” and “present”. Every musical instrument is captured and reproduced naturally. And of course … great sound … great vinyl is ALL about the female voice. If your system can capture all the nuance of the female voice (mine does) … then you have sonic bliss.

          I “get it” … that mp3 files are “convenient” … but vinyl simply sounds best. It’s not even close. And there is a certain “zen” about listening to a whole lp side … even the songs that aren’t radio hits … that you end up loving like your best friends voice.

          Yes, I am a music snob. I have been since the 1980’s when my brother converted me to an audiophile. And I collect only the very best engineered vinyl, both the original pressings from the 60’s and 70’s and superbly remastered reissues. I wish I could invite you all over to hear my system and my vinyl (esp. Nancy, whose music taste runs parallel to mine) … and I could “convert” you back to black (vinyl).

I was wearing my Don Garlits “Swamp Rat” t-shirt, and she complimented me on it.

  2. *A trick for those of you who cut polystyrene with a circular saw. I worked with vinyl siding for one project, it was a nightmare – the blade kept snagging on the material, breaking-out chunks, leaving ragged edges or even breaking-off so much that the piece was too short to be useable.

    A buddy said “Put the blade on backwards”.

      1. Table saw is the go-to tool. You can afro-engineer 2 C-clamps and a straight board to do the same thing with a skil saw but it is a pain in the ass.

  8. Trudeau’s CBC is upset that Hitler Scheer is proposing tax cuts. They explain that anybody making around forty thousand dollars a year is wealthy. And the Toronto Star explains that the peasants will just spend the money on an extra day of holidays. Meanwhile Groper is in Ontario today where he will be meeting with persecuted teachers discussing class room sizes and Doug Ford’s education cuts. Because the federal government now apparently runs education in the provinces. National Post reports that Groper is getting a warm reception in Ontario. He has promised us in the province lots of free stuff. Oil workers in Alberta will just have to work harder to pay for what people in Toronto want. The Unifor media is a little upset that Groper won’t hold question and answer sessions the past few days. Don’t they realize that the press is just there to make Great Leader look good in front of the peasants?

Kate – Your Story reminded me of my freshman (HS) woodshop teacher … who happened to be a 6’-6” 275lb ex NFL defensive lineman … who barked at us with a scowl on the first day of class, growling that … “machines are NOT your friends”. Followed by the cheerful … “I HATE Freshman”. He was actually a genuinely nice man who would give his left arm for you (as he cautioned you how to keep yours intact). He also was my varsity football coach, and mentor.

    Multiple times throughout the year, when he saw kids doing something stupid, his voice would bellow out of noisy machinery … “machines are NOT your friends!”. Shouted, as we learned, as his way of keeping the kids he loved safe and sound.

    I hope your steel and cast iron relic was treated as though it was NOT your friend. We would all suffer if you were to lose a finger along with your scraps of acrylic cut offs.

    Conclusion
    Overall, when considered as a whole, the factors set out above weigh in favour of including the PPC in the leaders’ debates. I have examined whether the PPC has a legitimate chance of electing more than one candidate in the upcoming election and have concluded that the PPC does have more than one candidate endorsed by the party with a legitimate chance to be elected. Therefore, it is my view that the PPC meets criterion (iii)(b) of the OIC and as such, an invitation will be extended to its leader for the Commission’s 2019 leaders’ debates.

  15. Building the border wall reminds me that one of the few reasons for the Constitution given in the Preamble was to establish common defense. The entire preamble:
    We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
    Common defense against whom? Why people NOT of the United States of course. If it is necessary to build a border wall for the common defense, then a border wall should be built.
    Promote the general welfare, not provide for the general welfare. Promote the general welfare means to provide for an ambience wherein the general welfare naturally increases. Just like the Declaration of Independence only talks about the pursuit of happiness. No one can insure happiness.
    Insure domestic tranquility and secure the blessings of liberty. Domestic tranquility, which means as little intrusion by the government in the lives of the people as possible, so that they can lead a tranquil life, to pursuit whatever endeavors with the blessings of liberty. Even despotic China had a four word saying to that effect: tranquil (in) domicile, pleasure (in pursuit of) endeavor. 安居樂業
    So few words, so much wisdom. If only the woke progs bother to read the Constitution. Even just the 52 words of the preamble.

      Where I live, Airdrie Alberta, there are literally no signs at all in the whole city except for BLAKE RICHARDS CPC.

This may explain the Globe story of a former Liberal cabinet minister coming out in support of China. And India is worried about Sikh extremists in political parties. Meanwhile at the Ford Hate Fest in Ontario, Groper was asked what he is going to do if the price of gas goes up because of the situation in Saudi Arabia. He answered that everyone should buy electric cars.

  24. Back in the day, there was supposedly an IA teacher who had a student do something stupid and lose the tip of a finger. This being before the days when a tip could be re-attached, the teacher promptly nipped along to the biology lab room and obtained a bottle of formaldehyde. In went the severed tip. In the following years, the safety talk always included a showing of the bottle and contents with the comment, “This is J…..’s finger; don’t add yours to my collection.” No kid ever did.

    BTW, the new phrase for parents of snowflakes is “snowplough parents”.

    1. Have I got a story that trumps that one. In the 1990s(I doubt it’s still there) some long haired dude enrolled in SAIT’s carpentry program.
      He got his long locks caught in the drill press and it literally scalped him.
      The hair and attached scalp were still hanging on the wall in the main shop in 1990 as a warning to future apprentices.
