The Halifax Examiner first reported earlier this month that Wilson-Raybould sat for 18 months on the findings of the Justice Department’s criminal conviction review group, which recommended that a new trial be ordered for Assoun. Sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the Assoun case, which may yet be the subject of a public inquiry, have confirmed that report to The Canadian Press.

I suppose she was busy with other issues, but I have to ask; did she not have staff members to read and report on submissions,or did she run the whole W-G’s office on her own? (That’s a cynical joke, I know the A/G has a huge staff at his/her disposal)
Imho, JWR didn’t look into Assoun’s case because as the ladder climbing political activist she truly is,there was nothing in it for her, thus no interest. The fact that David Lametti cleared this case up in only seven weeks after his appointment to the A/G’s office, speaks of more than just a “busy” excuse by JWR.
Assoun was just too “little” for the FN Queen.
Assoun probably isn’t a We Were Here First Nation Member so he’d be so little he’d be pretty much invisible to a Whitey Hating Truth To Power Warrior.
The police and the court system do not want to re-open cases.
If a single false conviction comes to light numerous related lawsuits start questioning other convictions.

Every case going back god knows how many years returns to court for scrutiny due to a single case of corruption or falsification.

Justice is a term whose significance and status allows it to stand alone. When the Cult. Marxists add a modifier e.i. “Climate” Justice or “Social” Justice, failure to expose that the modifier contradicts the meaning of the word it is being used to modify, that leads to false conclusions.

Justice, under British Common-Law, is equality under the law, without fear or favour. It operates regardless of social, racial, gender or material standing. The conviction, punishment and shame applies equally for theft, murder, perjury(bearing false witness) et al.

Jody Wilson-Raybould, almost did herself in when she announced she wanted to be free to speak “my truth” as opposed to “the truth”. I won’t comment on the Assoun case, or JWR’s mishandling on it. I just want to say that I have considered Canadian Press reporter Joan Bryden a staunch pro-Liberal party writer for a long time. Virtually all of her reports are written through a Liberal party lens, this, despite that the Canadian Press claims (falsely) to be objective in its reporting. The posted piece here might be done as a hit piece against JWR and as a cover for Justin Trudeau, in the run-up to this fall’s election.
Sure would be nice to see a reputable Canadian Professor publish such sentiments regularly in the MSM, particularly in that most media-backward place called New Brunswick.
Of course, said Professor would need to be retired or financially secure.
A rural, well-hidden, well equipped, armed residence would be ideal.
A thick hide, accompanied by no need for friends is also essential.
Of course, publication would be iffy at best.

I wonder how JWR is poling as an independent? Could that have any bearing on the timing of this story? It’s a tough call as far as knowing what went on as far as this case but the fact that she was in conflict as an Indian activist in that appointment goes without saying. She needs to hold just over 60% of her 2015 popular support to stay in office. Assuming the second place NDP will likely shed a significant number to the Greens, she could maintain just enough support to foil the Liberals and let a Conservative sneak in. Either way, I can see why the Liberals are vulnerable. If she gets re-elected, the Conservatives should be happy because as long as the Spawn is their leader, she won’t be sitting with them anytime soon.
Every time I hear a story like this I can’t help but think of a photo-copied cartoon about political behaviour that made the rounds thirty years ago. It showed a rat with its head in a trap and its arse in the air. Another rat had responded to the trapped rat’s predicament by humping it, and several other rats were scampering in to take their turn.

Brenda Way, the woman allegedly killed by Glen Assoun, was a prostitute. She was, the evidence suggests, most probably murdered by other working girls.
As this didn’t fit the feminist narrative, a male scapegoat had to be chosen.
Needless to say, letting Assoun go was the least of the concerns of a feminist government, least of all of Justice Minister Big Screen.

I don’t know if you can hang this on JWR but there is a great reluctance to admit to failures in the justice system. It challenges the very core of belief in democracy. The all men are entitled to a fair trial myth. It’s like finding out there is no god.
Given the above there is no question but that it’s JWR’s fault. Who else would they hang the horns on? She is a more than convenient scapegoat. There will be more opportunity to blame her in the future.
JWR may have the personal charisma to win her seat in the coming election. It wont happen without ever dirty trick in the librano book attempting to prevent it.
