Here’s the thing. The Libranos, contrary to popular belief, do want that pipeline to the west coast built. They bought it for that express purpose. China wants the oil, Quebec wants the equalization money from Alberta, and Chief Big Screen wants more money for his regular drinking sprees.
All the pipeline brouhaha is about is Big Screen wanting a bigger share of the loot than Quebec is willing to give him, and Beijing’s increasing frustration with Trudeau (and Harper before him) for not just using live ammo on the savages (as any Chinese leader would have done years ago) and getting the damn job done yesterday.
If Alberta didn’t have to give Quebec and Big Screen twety billion dollars a year, Alberta wouldn’t need the pipeline to sell her oil at a price she could pay her bills on.

There’s nothing to reinvent. NOBODY’s CLEANER AND MORE REGULATED! As it is Canada’s Energy Industry is too damn expensive to attract serious investment and there’s a huge liability in tens of thousands of long term inactive wells that need dealing with. So long as our gas remains trapped at “the end of the line” and the U.S. stays our only export market the death spiral of Canadian Oil and Gas along with Alberta’s economy will continue no matter how much lipstick Ottawa’s professional liars put on the stuck bleeding pig.

As someone pointed out elsewhere the oil is in Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C. and the dipsticks are in Ottawa. Nothing needs to be reinvented. The west just needs to leave and take with it the oil industry as is.
Now that Iran is misbehaving oil importing countries will be looking for new sources. They will sorely miss the Canadian contribution.
If the Iran thing heats up I see attitudes changing rather rapidly. There will be no place for BC to hide and to a lesser extent,Trudeau.
