The Libranos: Starch In Their Uniforms

National Post:

The federal government’s industrial benefits program for military procurement is so open to interpretation that instead of high-tech defence industry jobs Canada could end up with more plants that produce french fries, say procurement specialists.

The government has allowed Irving Shipbuilding to claim a $40-million industrial benefit credit for an Alberta french fry factory as part of a contract to provide the Royal Canadian Navy with new Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships, the Globe and Mail confirmed Thursday.

Under the government’s industrial and technological benefits policy, the prime contractors on such military procurements are required to do work in Canada equal to 100 per cent of the value of the contract they receive.

Irving, again.

  1. I would think that even the not low information voters are noticing that we have a boy Prime Minister who is to governing, what Bill Nye is to science.

It will be a gigantic relief to be rid of this corrupt regime.

Even a silly twat like Andrew Scheer will be far better than what we have now.

    1. “Even a silly twat like Andrew Scheer will be far better than what we have now.”
Sad but true. Even if he’s been bought and paid for by Quebec Milk Cartels.

        1. Sad and 100% True.
And he will bend the knee to that Cabal of corrupt quebec based Power Brokers.

      1. Chris, Trudeau is showing his totalitarian mindset with his new law on impaired driving and Bill Blair’s announcement on gun control. We have to boot these Liberal sonsabitches or there will be many more laws to restrict our freedom from this government.
Trudeau gave the game away when he said four years ago that the government he most admired was China’s, and anyone who doesn’t see the danger in that must be a liberal blinded by the sunny ways.

How do you like this beauty from Bill Blair on”assault rifles”? “These weapons are for use in the battlefield, but too often they have been brought into our communities and used to target and kill law enforcement, women, members of the LGBTQ2S community, religious observers and children doing nothing more than attending class.”
And I won’t even mention the new impaired driving law where the cops can come to your home two hours after they spotted you, and force you to take a breathalyzer test, seize your driver’s licence for 90 days and impound your car for 30 days.

Un-f***ing believable in what is allegedly a “liberal democracy”.

        1. Come on now, you do realize this is Canada? In a sane free country the libs would be in prison.

    2. “Even a silly twat like Andrew Scheer will be far better than what we have now.”

Absof***inglutely, as I said it before, I am willing to vote Green or NDP to neuter Libranos. It is suicidal insanity of Maxbots and teenage doctrinaire libertarians to claim that Scheer and Turdo are the same at the time when C-71 and the return of Section 13 are being rammed down our throats. If he is not neutered this election cycle, views represented by Max can be deemed illegal in a couple of electoral cycles and half of the posters at SDA can end up after a CHRC verdict in a gulag/reeducation camp. Think that is an exaggeration? Think it can’t happen here? Think again.

  2. French fry plant?

Isn’t Willy Porno’s wife’s family the same ones that produce McCain’s french fries.

    Asking for a friend.

    1. Plant supposedly in Alberta but would love to know where. This is the ultimate in stupidity.

      1. McCain has a large fry plant in Coaldale which isn’t far from Lethbridge. I think the Cavendish facility is in that vicinity.

  3. “DND confirmed that there had been minor problems with welds on the Arctic ships.”

What exactly is a minor weld problem? If they don’t pass inspection they are fatally flawed….Full Stop

The only way I know how to fix bad welds is to cut them out and Patch the gaps…Butt Ugly is Ugly.. Automated welding SHOULD be consistent unless the metals used are defective…

    1. As a CWB-API Certified Welding Inspector…Since 1986…I’ve a tad bit of experience in these matters.

A weld Fault is a Potential weld Failure. There is nothing “minor” about Weld Faults..be they cold Cracking (H2 induced), porosity, undercut, crater cracking, mass non metallic inclusions, using incorrect filler metals. lack of Pre-heat or PWHT (Post weld heat treatment) – incorrect Or piss poor application of the WPS (welding procedure), or simply a shitty-uneven looking weld. The other possible explantion is using Low grade base materials. ie CHINESE SHIT…

All of which or a combination thereof can lead to Catastrophic FAILURE

      A Cursory look at:
      W59 (Welded Steel Construction)
      Z662 Gas & Oil Pipelines
ASME B31.3, B31.1 etc (Various Piping codes for new construction)
ASME BPV (Boiler Pressure Vessel Code)
API 570/510: In Service Piping and Pressure Vessel Codes
      API 1169: Pipelines

…among others, ALL detail ABSOLUTE Criteria for acceptance. The word “MINOR” is nowhere to be found in Any of those codes.

Tells me there was little to no NDE applied & an abscence of QC-QA work done & likely built with little to no “experienced” Management or Supervision and quite possibly a non-existant QC Manual.

That Description is nothing less than Blatant WILLFULL IGNORANCE.

      1. Was a full page Irving ad in Halifax Chronicle Herald, bragging about how many women, indigenous, and Africans they’d hired for shipbuilding. I’m sure that had nothing to do with their problems

I have always assumed Irving (and whoever produces Quebec gas. Ultramar?) was the biggest reason for no eastern pipeline. They have disproportional economic power in an area that has disproportionately large federal political power.

The “milk cartel” has nothing on these snakes

      2. Have seen comments to the effect that the Davie shipyard has much higher standards than the Irving shipyard, particularly as regard to welds. Have to agree with Steakman: know little about welds, but do know enough to realize that even a minor failure can be catestrophic.

  4. Meanwhile the GDP figure has just come out for the last quarter. Canada’s economy grew by only 0.4 per cent. Probably Harper’s fault.

    1. That is so 2015.
      Didn’t you know?
Its all Doug Ford’s fault, or something something racism.

    2. “Canada’s economy stalled for a second straight quarter, but the weak overall performance was driven by falling exports and masked strong gains in household spending and investment that suggest the nation’s expansion is poised to pick up speed.”

The glass is always half-full when the Liberals are running the media – I mean running the country.

  5. New Brunswick…….

….where the Premier is a life-long Irving executive.

…..where Irving is the second largest employer behind the government.

…….where Irving owns ALL the media that counts.

…….where the CBC(and all other media) fear to tread.

…..where the personal taxes and HST are the highest in North America.

……where 1850 Alabama would be considered progressive.

……where it is truly hard to tell which is worse, the Red or the Blue traitors.

…….where illiteracy is 60% and innumeracy is more common than a Liberal with their hand in your pocket. In other words, pretty much universal.

…..where the legal system, health system and education systems are such expensive embarrassments they have to be doing it on purpose.

……..where the ubiquitous Canadian myths, shibboleths and lies we are all live with are never questioned.

……….where former PM Harper called the inhabitants defeated.

………..like most politicians he was half right…….ALL Canadians are defeated.

    It’s in the eyes.

Canada…….where the fix is always in.

  6. Hooray! Our beautiful (yet very smoky this morning) Bridge City has made the national news…for the wrong reasons. That being said, I do think Cavendish makes a much better fry than McCains

  7. Hey, the rich socialists know how to make a buck. They did not get rich on their own.
They could not do it on their own if they did not have as close position to monopoly as they do.
Compare this to the oil business where they want to get the government out of the way and get instead killing free enterprise.
    Must be the Canadian way.
To know how to kick back to the government is their art.
    Corruption is progress.
    For some.
    Government mama will provide.
    The working stiffs will pay.
Andy Scheer has nothing to say.
    Who you’ gonna call?

      1. Meanwhile back in real world Max will get less votes than Greens and fail to win a single seat, but he just might get enough votes to let the Libranos win.

    1. It’s Public Procurement Minister Carla Qualtrough that’s involved. I’m assuming the last syllable in her name is pronounced ‘trough’. Seems appropriate.

  8. Globe and Mail has joined the Toronto Star and has written a story on how wonderful China is, and we should do more to cooperate with that great nation. They also report that Trudeau’s deficit for 2018 is 15 billion dollars. And the Globe recognizes D Day ceremonies with a story that Nazis are running rampant in Canada’s military.

  9. I see trudope wants to do an end run around the provinces and deal directly with municipalities on matters of “climate change”. Municipal councils love nothing more than meddling in areas where they do not belong and the clown prince’s advisers know this well . October cannot come soon enough ..
