In my books the only decent thing to come out of these “emissions” is CO2. And we don’t produce anywhere enough of what is required to actually alter climatic conditions on Earth.
It’s May 5, the ground is covered with snow here in Calgary.

I’m also in Calgary Joe. I like to point out to anyone spouting a green mantra that anything green doesn’t belong here – for over 2 million years the area of Calgary has been over 2km deep in ice. All life currently here is invasive, including humans. When the ice returns, completely naturally, then only the deepest basement garages will survive the scouring of the ice sheets to be found by the historians of another age. Sea level changes of 130m over 1000 years are normal, a 1 in 120,000 year event. That is natural climate change, and we engineers will have to try to combat it no matter what causes it .
And those boneheads want the ice to come back faster, and energy to be more expensive now.

I was right with the author … until … he claimed that all plastics could be eliminated. He may not realize it … but plastics are just as essential as fossil fuels. Case in point: ALL of the surgical tools and materials used on my hip replacement surgery were sterilized and wrapped in plastic to keep them sterilized. I had NO infection whatsoever from this highly invasive surgery. No thank you … I do NOT want my Doctor standing and waiting for the autoclave to sterilize his tools one by one.
The answer for all of man’s pollution is simple (and sometimes highly technical) disposal methods. Waste can be collected and recycled, or treated. THAT is where the emphasis should be placed … not on irrational banning of essential products for a healthy life.

I don’t believe the author advocated for eliminating all plastics. His actual sentence, below, stipulates eliminating plastic waste. He concedes that trying to ablolish plastic is “unrealistic”.

Oops. So much for my speed reading skills. I read that sentence too fast and thought he was saying it WASN’T unrealistic to eliminate plastic. A second read corrected my mistake. Mea culpa.
Well…one of the first places to start would be eliminating “clamshell” packaging…that which Costco is a world leader in. Don’t produce it, then ya don’t have to recycle it. WTF is wrong with plain Cardboard or recycled Carboard Packaging anyway.??
Scond thing we SERIOUSLY need to look at is:incineration. Plastics comprise nothing less than a significant portion of Fossil Fuels and we throw them away…WHY.??

If you are old-enough to recall, McDonalds used to package every burger in a foam-plastic clamshell. They changed to a paper/cardstock burger clamshell. My life didn’t change one iota … except for the better, when they made that change.
But you make an important point steakman, in that banning plastic straws (which mostly have no practical substitute) is rather weak and disingenuous of the eco-extremist-Left. They should be attacking Costco clamshell packaging instead. If they did, most people would shrug and say “whatever” … but that’s NOT what the eco-extremist-left want. They WANT to inconvenience everyone with a straw ban.
PS … how many straws worth of plastic does it take to make a single ONE of a Costco clamshell? And which one degrades faster in the environment.

The loons are everywhere. CO2, a colourless, scent free gas, essential for life, is now a pollutant. Every storm and every flood and every wildfire is breathlessly reported as evidence of climate change. The Weather Channel peddles this crap as much as does CBC and CTV news (I ignore Global). It’s as if the country has collectively lost its marbles. The only sane person in power anywhere seems to Trump – it’s too bad he has so little in the way of people skills. In Canada, all the Cons are on the climate change bandwagon. Bernier, also from another country I have no afinity to whatsoever, is sort of like Trump, but has a mere handful of followers. It looks grim.
And that’s why I can’t in good conscience vote Conservative in this upcoming election. Kelly McCauley the MP (a supposed conservative) in my riding is another of those Global Warming nutters that you speak of.
