  1. Does anybody know what reason, if any, that Harper had to leave 18 Senate seats vacant in the last election?

    1. I believe Harper wanted Senate reform, and he was going to stop making appointments until there were too few senators actually sitting for the senate to function.

Obviously it doesn’t work if you loose an election.

      1. Harper was an idiot. What else did you expect from a cat person? He was a Liberal. Con/Lib/NDP. HopSing Say, alla same same

    2. Hi did it because he mistakenly believed Liberals actually cared about Senate reform, or anything else besides political power.

    3. Phil,I believe it was 22 vacant Senate seats Harper left. I suppose he was afraid of bad publicity in the msm if he had filled all 22 seats.

Who in hell advised him about that is unknown, but at that time Harper could have revealed himself as the true Second Coming and wouldn’t have gotten a paragraph of praise by the media. He had nothing to lose by appointing those Senators which would have tied the LPC government up in enacting their globalist agenda, but ????

Maybe Harper was just another Ottawashed politician in the end.

      1. 1st Conservative Truth Bomb dropped.

        More to come.

Many just and right Canadians of many different backgrounds are fighting back the Globalist UN leftist elitist war against us here in Canada and the western world.

        Max is not alone.

      2. Good point. He had nothing to lose. Perhaps he simply chose to take a principled, rather than political stand. I think it was a mistake, and I suspect that at this point, he does too.

        1. Just like when he coulda shoulda defunded the CBC!

You think two grandiosed misplays poor Harper and it will be sold that way…

But he didn’t do either so it all on Harper and the CPC.

You still think Scheer Trudeau light is going to change the course of what the liberals are doing now?

I’m pretty sure Scheer will pull a Harper but be sold as misplays.

          Oh and btw

Ugh. Left-wing CBC opinion page editor is wasting Canadian taxpayers money with her irrelevant and stupid comments again.

          1. Just say no to another God damned PM from Quebec.. Max may be great but I couldn’t take another one.

        2. Don Morris, you may be right. All I remember was that it was around 20 seats left vacant.

LindaL, I think he was trying to be principled to a fault. He always believe in the Triple-E senate to the point of not appointing Senators for the first couple of years he was Prime Minister. Then he started appointing them in bulk until close to the 2015 election. He should have filled them instead. You can’t reform the Senate if you don’t control it first.

    4. I believe he didn’t believe in appointing senators, coming from the Reform party, triple E and all that, unfortunately that left it open to the Liberals, who have never missed an opportunity to pass a camel through a legal needle eye.

It is pretty blatant when two senators are appointd while the advisory board responsible were not sitting.

  2. mebbe he wuz too distracted taking canada post home delivery away.
that worked out real good eh?
the concrete pads have all been torn out in my neighborhood.
    fcukin doofus.
aka ‘yawell yawell yawell myyyyyy neighborhood dont gets mail delivery so youse gotta do widout toooooo.
or, mr new subdivision, youse set up house KNOWING ahead of time you werent getting traditional mail delivery.
and THAT is a whoooooole lot different than the likes of the harperbully taking it away from EV-ERY-ONE.

    1. Snail mail is obsolete. Home delivery of snail mail is effing stupid. I only use mail at work and a lot less than I used to.

      1. I don’t get much actual mail at the house I inherited. What I do get consists mainly of bills and some magazines left over from my late father’s subscriptions.

The rest is junk mail. I mean, how many flyers from Canadian Tire or the local pizza joints does one need? That stuff goes straight into my blue recycling bin, so the city contractor has something to pick up when it comes to empty it out.

During one of my trips to the house, I went to collect my mail just when the Canada Post critter was filling it. I talked to her about all that advertising being stuffed into everyone’s box and her reply was that she had to do it as it was part of her job.

So there you have it, folks. Canada Post has become little more than a government-funded junk mail delivery service. Can anyone tell me just why CP still exists?

        1. I have a different issue re the flyers. Delivering flyers used to be a good opportunity for teens to earn money. Then the greedy unionized workers at Canada Post took it over. I don’t mind the flyers. It’s just marketing, which is important for many small local businesses.

        2. I requested that I not receive any junk mail in my 2 mail boxes and it works. I’ve probably saved a tree or two.

        3. Because the Liberals and NDP see it as a make work program for people with NO SKILLS WHATSOEVER, to deliver junk mail to the door for Liberal and NDP voters…
Remember how that turned into an election issue last time? Remember also that the Libs decided after the fact to NOT restore home delivery where it was taken away? Another Librawl LIE.

        4. A conservative friend in Toronto told me that Canada Post lost one billion dollars in fiscal year April 2017 to April 2018 (numbers not yet known for April 2018 to April 2019). Canada Post is concentrating more on parcel deliveries for Amazon, Wayfair and yet still manages to lose a lot of money. Again, another reason to leave the failed confederation of Canada.

      2. Sort of agree. Sure as shit stinks I want my tax return in the mail. Know a woman – who thinks she always the smartest in the room – who gave CRA her info for direct deposit and sure enough when she ‘owed’ they were into her account quicker than shit through a goose.

    2. Isn’t home delivered for some, but not for others inequitable? If someone in an older neighborhood has difficulty getting to the community box, don’t they have neighbors? Why should others pay the cost? It is not an entitlement.

  3. hb, I don’t know if you’re really as stupid as you come across or are deliberately attempting to be obtuse. In either case, it’s a FAIL.

  4. Hb you mistakingly posted on here the site you want is small stunned idiots

  5. The worst thing here is the phony “arms length”. They are Liberal appointees, but let us pretend they are not.

  6. When (if) Scheer takes over, throw out all these recent changes re appointments of judges, senators, etc. They are processes used to weed out Conservatives. Appoint nothing but 30 year old Mormons and Pentecostals to these lifetime appointments. That way we are sure to get Consrvatives and they will be around a while. And kill fixed election dates. Nothing wrong with 5 years. A year might have saved Harper’s ass.

    1. Please no old religious loons secular only.

” And kill fixed election dates. Nothing wrong with 5 years.”

      Yes

“A year might have saved Harper’s ass.”

No. People were tired of that guy. Harper was an idiot. He should have stepped down in 2013, not run the worst election campaign ever, and legalized MJ. An extra year of being an authoritarian douche would not have made anything better. Probably worse.

      1. Harper was excellent. He should not have stepped down in 2013. That’s ridiculous. He was undermined by the corrupt Liberal Party and their media friends. People were tired of the complaints about Harper and started to believe some of the nonsense. I would vote for him in a heartbeat if he ever runs again. I miss his genuine leadership.

        1. Yes absolutely correct, and if you were arguing with someone who is not 100% disingenuous there would be a point to this argument. He is to be insulted and ridiculed not treated as a partner in a debate.

    2. You missed a big /sarc of the end of that post no? Do you really expect Andy 2% to disturb the establishment? Even mildly.

      1. Who gives a crap if she’s a widow. I still say she’s kinda hot. And she’s available. Kulak, go watch summer of 42 and educate yourself about widows.

  7. Phil,
Stephen is smarter than you suggest. He was smart enough to know that believing in something doesn’t make it so.
Triple E is beyond attainable in Canada because it requires a constitutional amendment to make it happen. Thank you Peter and Roy.
It is unattainable because an amendment requires the support of either Ontario or Quebec.
Power has never been known to voluntarily give itself up. That’s why Preston engineered the deflection of all that western anger down the dead end road of federal politics.
We are now a a similar point…..will the west be betrayed again?

    1. Triple E is just a terrible idea. Look at the US the bicamarel legislature has been a disaster. Just abolish the senate already.

  8. Are you kidding me? It’s the US Senate that’s holding back the leftist jackals.!

  9. This comment thread is as insufferable as the senate clip with the Harder guy in the green suit versus the buxom prairie lass who is all high falutin and shite. The senate is a high school club with benefits and dry hump effectiveness. And get over Harper already. He had a chance and blew it due to his inability to allow his aspirations to exceed his grasp. Hokay?!

  10. Harper was gutless. All talk and no action. I can count on one hand his real accomplishments and have excess fingers.
He knew what the Liberals are* and left 20+ lifelong senate appointments for them to fill.
He was AWOL last election. Just phoning it in, marking time, planning his retirement.

*(born and raised in T.O., member of Young Liberals club in HS)

  11. Little surprised at the complete lack of support for the Senate here. As a recent example, Princess Justin would have brought in Soviet style personal-search laws with the MJ legalization. If nothing else, strong sustained NDP support for abolishment should make you suspicious. Look at what NDP did to ON and AB with a single mandate. If both of them had had provincial senates, stacked with decades worth of Cons, damage would have been reduced.

I’d like to see more senators. And a lot more MP’s, maybe like 1000 of them, elected every 2 or 3 years. Hard to get a majority when you need 501 obedient peons who have to regularly go home and get reelected. The stars allign, some crazy populist Green wave sweeps into power, they got 2 years to hammer through their craziness….the Senate slows them down. What would Obama have “accomplished” if they had not had the midterms to put GOP in Congress?

“Oh, too many, they’ll never get anything done!”…That’s a feature, not a bug
