For both parties in the US, freedom or slavery are far too much an oversimplification given that neither party wants to address the fact that the US is just another bankrupt welfare state (neither free nor yet majority slavish). The loose cannon populist is now lame duck and the Dems are trying to nail down their policy program for making things worse in terms of velocity of decline. Socialism is the new and “exciting” (faux) American exceptionalism in that a significant number of maleducated Americans believe that they can employ socialism successfully unlike anywhere else on the planet. The reality is that the US is already within a point or two many of the so called democratic socialist states in terms of public sector involvement in GDP and just as dysfunctional.
Unlike Surber, I think the left is far more united than the so called right and I can see them consolidating a position somewhere between the SJW crazies and the so called moderate leviathan defenders.
Maybe the Dumocrats should split into two parties – Dumb and Dumber.

The battle between the progressive establishment and the radical elements they have patronized for decades comes out in the open.
If I may be so bold as to point out some of the other battles brewing in the same vein.
There is currently a tug of war going om in the LPC between their Laurentian Elite and the radical elements they petition to lend their vote each election. The end result of that battle is the radical element decamping for the Green party. Look for a change of leadership when a new queen challenges Lizzy May for the throne.
Another is the battle brewing between our judicial branch and the executive branch. Trudeau 1.0 granted extra judicial powers in 1982 which the court took to heart. Trudeau 2.0 decided to pick up where his adopted daddy left off, and decided he could direct the judiciary through his proxy. The judiciary has balked at his impudence and is now pushing back, starting with the rejection of a DPA for SNC.
And lastly, the schism between the provincial liberal parties and the federal party. Latest tidbit is that the provincial parties want nothing to do with Trudeau 2.0 and want to distance themselves from the stench. Expect a leadership vote federally after the next election because a drama queen never leaves the stage willingly.
But I could be wrong.

France’s people are strong and will stand firm.

Then attacks on Paris’s entertainment district/night life (Paris, the City of Light) at the Bataclan et al. Followed by the attack and mass slaughter of French citizens celebrating their national holiday, Bastille Day in Cannes, their most famous resort.
Now there is an endless series of attacks on iconic and historic churches (It was local churches that funded Charles “The Hammer” Martel recruiting and training farm workers into disciplined infantry, who defeated the first Islamic jihad invasion at the battle of Tours/Portiers in 732 AD., saving Western Europe). He is buried in one of the churches attacked .
After years of deployment of France’s military inside the country protecting vital infrastructure, transportation, and Jewish areas. The French government warned the Christian community that they were at risk, too, but would have to protect themselves. Then a priest saying mass had his throat slit by two jihadis.
(Note, the Vatican is protected by a Swiss guard dressed in Medieval costume but are armed and trained special forces ! Vatican City has 40 ft. walls, too.)

Why women symbolize this is because, they are Catholic and under the surface there is a core that remains so.
