    1. I’ve noticed going to live NHL games with women that it is less about the hockey but women seem to like watching big physical (rich) men, drinking beer and getting 2 seconds shown on the score board and even make themselves really cute for it. I guess biology plays a part in that.

      Who does women’s hockey appeal to? Family members? Virtue signallers? Government Granters? Lesbians?

    Second of all. I get shat upon everyday for being male by the femenism grievance industry. Why the heck am I going to go out of my way to watch Women’s sports. It only feels I’m supposed to support women’s sports because of guilt.

  3. I would watch Canadian women play in the Olympic gold medal game if I had nothing better to do but that’s about it. Sorry.

    1. That is the thing, the Canadian team will always be in the gold medal game, so will the USA. Canada and the USA could field 10 teams that are better than all the rest of the world.

  4. Uh, huh. There are options, you know. There are more women than men, so if women choose to support the teams, the teams will do fine. If they want more male viewers, women’s hockey should consider the model of the Lingerie Football League (now called the Legends Football League). Seeing women skate around in burkas may not be that appealing for some cis-heteronormative men.

    Assuming women cannot transform the patriarchal misogynists who now dominate the sports viewing audience on TV, how about government subsidies? They could easily pay for it with a tax on beer. Or, they could pass a law similar to the Title IX laws in the U.S. mandating equal participation in college athletics for men and women. You want to watch men’s hockey? Well, then you must watch women’s hockey, too. The government could insist women be paid the same as men for the same work. We all want fairness and equality to come to hockey. Win-win.

  5. All of the players are welcome to try out for NHL teams, the NHL is merit based not gender, so anyone can play, if they have the skills. This comment got disabled at CBC.

    1. A few years back there was a female goalie in professional hockey. She was not exactly an all star;

      2. DL, that was Manon Reaume. Phil Esposito talks about her in his autobiography. Phil was the new GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and he realized that hiring the first woman hockey player would attract interest.
        As Phil said,”it didn’t hurt that she was drop dead gorgeous either”.

        She never played an NHL game,spent some time in the minors, might have gotten into an exhibition NHL game,not sure.

        Not surprised the CWHL went, um, out of business, I was barely aware they even existed, only a few references on HNIC mentioned their existence. If we lived in a truly enlightened society,the government would mandate that every NHL team hire at least two female players, transgendered accepted of course, which would bring us back to square one: no women in hockey.

The 3 on 3 basketball when tied after regulation time is super gay, but the idiots love it.

  7. As one of the commenters on the CBC article wrote; if they got the elbows up in the corners and dropped the gloves on occasion, it might be worth watching. As for me, I didn’t even know the league existed (as if I cared).

  10. Professional Sports is a business.

    For a business to succeed they must provide a service or product that is desired by enough customers/sponsors to support that business. For a sponsor to support a business they must get a return on their investment; advertising, promotional gigs, etc. Feel good virtue signalling does not have an ROI that share holders will approve of for long.

    Gov’t should not be supporting sports businesses, if they have a worthwhile and desired product they will succeed. I don’t agree with any level of gov’t building facilities for private businesses, be it arenas or office towers. My only conflict with that is when municipalities provide start-up and mentoring space for business or high tech entrepreneurs, mixed on this too as I would not support start-up space or mentoring for a professional sports franchise. Guess I just don’t like professional sports, and I worked in professional sports TV off and on for many years.

    It’s not like there are no successful women’s professional sports, see Curling and LPGA. Not the same prize levels, but then not the same audience attractions or sponsorships. Both are well televised, though Curling has the leading edge on that.

    Provide a product enough people want to use/view/participate and you will be successful.

    Provide a product based upon gender parity and expect it to succeed just because of gender parity and you will fail.

  11. I don’t watch NHL hockey because it is not good hockey. I wouldn’t watch the women’s hockey – for the same reason. I do wish women would create their own sports instead of copying men all the time and playing men’s sports for which they are not built to play.

          3. I think the best hockey I ever had the pleasure to watch was the Montreal Canadiens against the Soviet Red Army in the 70s. There was no “run ’em through the boards” nonsense and there was no fighting but there was fast and furious skating end to end to end . The game ended in a tie but no one cared. The hockey was fantastic. The NHL is pond hockey in comparison.

        2. I have been playing and watching for over 50 years, a long time ago I was paid a little bit. Today’s game is orders of magnitude faster than 30 years ago, the players are all bigger, and the slowest skater would put Bobby Orr to shame, just ask him, I have. Watch old game films, there was often only one or two guys per team that could skate, Phil Esposito could spend a whole game with a drink in his hand, just put I down to score. I know Bobby Hull, he doubted he would have been a starter when his son Brett was playing. It is so much faster, just a different game.

Todays American college Hockey style game is an up and down the ice game without the slightestest bit of nuance nor difference from team to team… a game of NPR’s… a game that requires players to move up and down the perimeters of the ice as a unit as fast as they possibly can, get the puck deep and then go back the other way doing the exact same thing again and again thus creating the illusion of end to end play, just like basketball but without the basket and without anything of actual substance happening. Physicality has been designed out of the game which I’m sure pleases the Marxists, feminists and all wimps in general. The game is now a dumbed down version of Hockey, a game that is easier to play, a game where mediocrity is the standard, although referred to as, “parity”, systems play is the new normal and individualism is verbotten… it is a game that was manufactured and honed through the American College Hockey Leagues. The traditional game of Hockey is dead, just like the country that invented it. Canadians were once a rough and tough people who played rough and tough games with sticks, Hockey and Lacrosse… they didn’t make excuses for who they were, they didn’t need to change and they didn’t give a shit what “progressives’ had to say about them. Nowadays most people in Canada, fueled by the corrupt Corporate Globalist Media and Government schools want you to be ashamed of that rough and tumble Canada and embrace the gayness of our new overlords and they’re much gentler game. I guess 50 years of Turdholing people into compliance has had its desired affect. Yes, its a different game now, and Turdholeland is a lot different country than Canada was too.

  13. Many all men’s leagues and teams in many sports have failed. It happens if your business model is faulty or product is weak. Get a better model or create a better product. You can’t force people to watch what is basically an entertainment if it is not entertaining. A 40 team NHL will eventually find out the same thing. I learned yesterday that Seattle is dying. Bettman is putting a team there. Hey, it worked well in Las Vegas!

    I talked to a guy at work, we was on Canada’s Olympic team back in the 80s doing tennis, still coaches and stuff. I asked him if he were to go transgender, he estimated he could maybe have 5 years pro on the women’s side. I asked him why he didn’t do it, just doesn’t want to open that can of worms…

    I think Andrea Aggassi, or Petra Sampras could beat Serena, and there would be lots of money in it…

  18. Teams and leagues fold every year. If women really cared they’d buy tickets and watch it on cable. But they don’t. And please don’t expect men to care. And cities like Edmonton have to quit giving half billion dollar arenas to billionaire NHL owners. If fans want to support a team fine – otherwise bye-bye.

    So in their zeal, the feministas decided that everyone wants to watch woman’s hockey.
    Nobody dared to ask if that will work and how.

    How many people watch international hockey games played by women? Nonetheless they are played and propagandized by the media carte.
    Sport is a natural, sort of speak, outgrowth of people interested in playing and watching particular game or athletic event.
    For example soccer is most watched and played sport in the world though in North America does not amount to a hill of beans once you leave harschool.
    There really is no problem with woman’s hockey, the problem, if you can call it that, is that most of the proles are not interested.
    Nothing to do with women per say, it’s not an interesting game, if it was the stands would be full of women and they are not.
    On the other hands there are games that are successful in Europe like volleyball, handball and a whole lot of other team sports.

    The other thing about it now is that it is going to be constructed as something against women and of course the white men are the culprits.
    That’s about it.

    The Women who attend any Federal Government subsidized Theatre or Art Establisment are to Pay — 2 times price of a male ticket price.

    Any of the LGBQWERTY crowd Not wanting to identify as either component necessary to produce further generations of at least Anglo-Culture Canadians will be allowed in to a similar venue at the same price as the Women’s Ticket cost.

    Such additional revenue will help to offset the apparent additional expense(s) for SJW’s projects .

  28. I didn’t read any comments, so there may be some repetition.

    Simple equation is.

    Men watch men’s sports because they think of what could have been(perhaps idealistically) and they admire the expertise of the athletes.

    Women don’t watch women’s sports (generally) because they are jealous of their expertise.

    I watch sports because I think of the technical expertise all athletes require to achieve at a high level(male or female) and appreciate what they’ve done to achieve that expertise. Most women don’t think that way unless they’ve participated. End. Of. Story.

  29. The top team, Montreal sold 3500 tickets to the Bell center, all season, not per game, for all 20. Enough said. There were more TV people in the rink than spectators.
