This Is Not Your Grandma’s Humane Society

Highest bidder journalism;

It’s a frightening prospect to think any person or entity with significant funds could buy editorial time or space to promote a specific ideology, but that’s what’s going on between the Guardian and the Open Philanthropy Project (OPP).

In 2017, the daily U.K.-based newspaper sought and received a grant from OPP to regularly print editorial content in support of OPP’s well-established animal rights agenda. OPP is paying the Guardian $886,600 (USD) to publish a series titled “Animals farmed.” It consists of a steady stream of articles that paint animal agriculture as inhumane, unhealthy and dangerous to the environment. […]

OPP is no ordinary reader. It’s funded by Dustin Moskowitz, one of the founders of Facebook. It has an unapologetic focus on farm-animal welfare – which it has every right to have, by the way – that is led by Lewis Bollard, a former leader at the Humane Society of the United States. It recently handed over $4 million in support of Prop 12 in California. Oh, and it is an investor in Impossible Foods, the maker of the Impossible Burger. The point is, its resources are significant, and it stands to gain financially and otherwise from the furthering of its anti-livestock agenda.

  1. I don’t mind highest bidder journalism as long as they provide a bio disclosing the author’s background and specify that the editorial is paid for by a third party. It’s not as if the Guardian has ever held a pretense of being anything but a lefty rag so I can’t imagine anyone who reads it would object to more of the same loony watermelon bilge. Similarly, Canadian media accepting the Spawn’s hush money should disclose that fact on their editorial pages……to dream!

  2. I believe the term is FAKE JOURNALISM … FAKE NEWS. Advocacy delivered between the sheets of what purports to be a NEWSpaper … a NEWSorg. … is NOT NEWS.

Today … every NEWS outlet is Pravda

  3. If the Guardian admits to printing opinions of the wealthy for money they could just be the only honest newspaper.

  4. What else would one expect? After all, OPP is a tribe organization. That is how they run. And since their goal is their One World Government utopia, the “Guardian” would have been proud to run those same editorials WITHOUT getting the money.

  5. – and who believes a word the Grauniad prints anyway? They’re the U.K.’s Onion.

  6. Obviously meat is in their sights.
They want to take it away from the masses.
    Why? Climate change.
Look at the new Food guide pivoting to more plant based proteins. This is no accident, this is all coordinated by bureaucracies through out the west all with out our vote.
Check out the “study” Eat-Lancet. They are proposing 6 – 7 grams of meat as a serving.
Next they will be taxing meat out of viability.
This needs to be stopped, they are tampering with our food supply, without permission, all over the fraud of climate change.

    1. I used to visit the Grauniad for its food pages then they started pushing veganism (yawn) so less traffic to sell to their advertisers from me.

  7. Nope, it’s a placement ad. So long as it is identified, I have no problem with it.

The Grauniad doesn’t have a great record for truthfulness, though.

    1. I don’t disagree, except for the “placement” of such advertisements intended to deceive the reader. I suspect that most readers do not make the distinction between the actual news and ‘advertisements’ such as this. This is similar to certain infomercials that are designed to appear as a “news” story … slipped into actual News broadcasts. And with the amount of editorializing inserted into each and every “news” story has so muddied the waters making the reader have to read the actual content of every article with a jaundiced eye. Sadly, the average reader … with an attention span that can barely get past a caption or headline … is easy to manipulate.

Therefore, dishonest FAKE News sites write confused headlines that imply (for ex.) something horrid that Trump did or said … only to find buried in the story that Trump did no such thing. Most readers never learn the TRUTH … because it requires a literary-Easter-egg-hunt to find.

No, I don’t want to interfere with the FREE Enterprise, or the FREE Speech of Paying$$ to place political advertisements … but such PAID Political Advertisements must be clearly identified as such. And never presented to confuse or deceive.

  8. Voting won’t stop it. Women, as a group, worldwide, always have, and always will vote for more government every chance they get. So you have half the population of the planet, and more than half of them will always vote for more government

Got to regulate those sugary drinks, think of the children.
Got to have a government approved diet, think of the children.
