In the 2015 election, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised he’d run “modest” deficits for a few years, then balance the budget in 2019.
The prime minister just released the 2019 budget. It wasn’t what he promised. And it’s worth counting the ways in which he misled Canadians in the process of breaking that promise.
First of all, there was the justification for running deficits. The economy was weak, went his argument, so we must spend to boost it. What’s more: Nothing gives a better boost than building infrastructure and the deficits will pay for it!
But then a strange thing happened.
The overall economy picked up soon after the Trudeau government came to office — the government gleefully took credit for the turn — and yet the deficits have continued each year anyway. Suddenly, the old argument was gone and a new one had appeared in its place: Economic times are good so we can afford to run deficits!
More: SQUANDERED INHERITANCE.
@JesseBrown – Details of the government’s newspaper bailout are here, and it’s all much worse than I predicted.

Some Canadians experience the budget differently.
“Some of peoplekind experienced my election promises differently.”
“An election is no time to discuss serious issues”
Turd reminds me of someone…
Can’t think of who…
Canadian majority governments are a four year dictatorship. Perhaps the people who push PR are on the right track, as voters have to sit by helplessly watching the LPC gang rape our economy while the Opposition can do sfa.
Yes, PR and a splintered parliament might guarantee snail’s pace legislation and reform if any, but it might be better than gnashing our teeth while we watch the LPC gangsters operate.
And if the CPC forms the next government, do we really believe it will be all sun shine and roses, or will we have just another Quebec controlled political party doling out favors while wearing a different color of tie?
We will never have any real change as long as we have the Party system, I think our democracy was stolen a long time ago by the Club Du Ottawa whose loyalty is to their Party, not their constituents. We aren’t capable of mounting a revolution,so what other choice do we have?
I notice the msm is busily ganging up on Jason Kenney and the UCP, who,if you read the Press, are the most corrupt bunch of fascists since Mussolini, and the only way to save Alberta is to vote again for the nice friendly Notley and her band of communists. I DO hope Albertans are resolute in their determination to boot these Dipper scum.
We shall see on April 16, a day that MIGHT “live forever in infamy” unless voters set things right.
Nutley and Turdeau are in a race to see who can add more to the deficit.
o paraphrase the Little Prick- “Scummy ways my friend, Scummy ways.”
I am trying to lessen my tax footprint so that in my own way I can help starve the beast. I desperately want to go Galt.
Sorry to break it to you, Chris. But you will starve a long, long time before THAT beast starves.
Your are right of course. After thousands of years it’s still all “Bread and Circuses”
I wonder if I put a cow in my backyard I can get some of that one billion dollars Quebec dairy farmers are getting. Or maybe if I sign up I can get some of those millions of dollars to be spent on dead indian languages.
“And The Budget Will Balance Itself”…but not anywhere in our lifetimes!
Oh yes I forgot, his lips were moving.

Please re-elect Trudeau in 2019.
That will be the final catalyst to bring about the dissolution of Confederation, for once and for all.
The prairie colonies would surely split if Trudope and his SNC cronies get another majority government.
Boom and Bust Economies cannot survive in a perpetual Bust economy provided by the Federal government.
I’m still waiting for Comrade Notley to respond to Groper setting aside 55 million dollars to discuss the Trans Mountain pipeline over the next two years with the indians.
The second Justin promised deficits, red flags should have gone up right there. If anyone had suggested that one should max out one’s credit and debit cards, one would think that person mad.
Yet Canadians fell for it because they think money grows on trees.
Furthermore, no one is demanding financial accountability. How many millions were spent on holidays, costumes, private chefs and so on? No one thought it a good idea to remind Justin that the public purse is not his? I didn’t think so.

Funny how Employment Insurance Premiums taken in were $2,578 million in 2018 but the Employment Insurance Benefits paid were only $2,217 million. So what do they do with the $361,000,000.00.00 they didn’t return in benefits?
Here are the priorities of the Spawn’s government:
1 Hold power at any cost except if it helps the Oil sector.
2 When rationalizing why they want to hold power, virtue signal with vagina counts, melanin, gender multiplication, Muslims, middle class pandering, green theology, infrastructure (excluding pipelines), etc.
3 Strive to create welfare / political dependency in as many sectors as possible including now the already compliant media.
4 Ignore economic principles because math is hard and free stuff always sells to an illiterate populace. Spend like there is no tomorrow.
5 Continue placating Indian leaders by enticing their expectations of reversing apartheid, eventually making 97% of the nation subservient tenants to the 3% idle landlords who meet the racial purity threshold. Allowing some of them to kill pipelines is the modern day equivalent of beads and blankets and satisfies green theology while postponing the reckoning with reality.
anyone who is still dumb enough to vote liberal should not be allowed to vote as they have lost all common sense
Anyone who thinks team Turdeau will keep any of the commitments outlined in the budget is dreaming. Turdeau has lied consistently about the Liberal spending plans.
There isn’t a politician on this continent who will bring up the word debt once he/she is in office.
Trump talked about it during his campaign – not a whisper since.
Scheer-the-Steer isn’t pounding his desk about it….and he’ll be just like Trump if he gets elected.
And why should they? The public isn’t worried about it either.
The female Liberal MP for Whitby has resigned from the Liberal caucus and will sit as an independent. Groper sure knows how to piss off women.
piss off?
ya, well he pisses ON them too.
and they vote for the yellow stream running down their face, confusing it with tears of joy at the attention.
For comparison purposes: NASA’s entire budget is $21 billion US. Canadian budget deficits could have paid for an entire space program on par with the US space program.
If you wanted to force the world to adopt a single currency, first you would make sure that every country had so much debt that they couldn’t finance it anymore. Then you offer a “reset” based on adopting the new currency. This pursuit of debt is a feature, not a bug.
