Yesterday, according to the Hurriyet News Daily, he doubled down, referring Gallipoli campaign by allied forces, including the Australian and New Zealand troops, in World War I, saying Turkey would “write history” again if anyone stood against Turks, Muslims and all the oppressed.“Your grandparents came, some of them returned in coffins. If you come as well like your grandfathers, be sure that you will be gone like your grandfathers,” he said
“If Turkey faces a test similar to those that happened in Gallipoli in the First World War, the country is capable of doing the same again,” he said.
Erdogan said that the shooter had entered Turkey twice according to Turkish intelligence. “This terrorist entered Turkey twice. In the first one, he stayed for three days, and on his second visit, he stayed in Turkey as well as in its neighbouring countries for 43 days to conduct ‘works’,” Erdogan said, according to the Hurriyet report.

In fact, when the Sultan in Constantinople was the caliph, the Ottomans generally kept a very, very tight grip on Islamic extremism in the Middle East.
I get some amount of amusement from imagining that the commentary here would replace the panel discussions on mainstream media. At least it would be that much more interesting.
Erdogan is likely feeling empowered from the reaction of Western progressives in egg-walking around Islam every time a Jihadist scores and then going all Islamophile when a nutter shoots up a Mosque. Merkel, May, and Macron are also doing his dirty work for him in colonizing their nations with Muslims while silencing their own citizens (I’d add Canada but we are irrelevant in world affairs today and outside of the territory plaqued by the CBC, the Spawn is seen as a joke). He likely sees himself as the leader of the returning Caliphate empowered by week horses everywhere except in the White House and the Kremlin and in that he would be correct. To Erdogan, the West is essentially asking him to lead his people because their progressive “leaders” don’t have a clue.
The interesting thing is, Erdogan is at the same time speaking out of the other side of his mouth to western audiences at the Washington Post yesterday, about how he is on our side and philosophising about the meaning of life, ISIS and your friend Turkey, which still looks forward to taking over — no; joining — the EU.
