    This is why I refuse to send aid to Venezuela. Why I do not donate to any charities. People keep voting for promises of help or change that never happens. So I leave them on their own.

    1. Charities have become money making industries for their organizers. Rent seekers. It’s unfortunate, but the new reality. Any commercial you see, especially the poor puppy dogs outside “cruel”, $19 a month, or the WWF commercials where you can “adopt a tiger”….pure unadulterated BS.
      The money goes to 6 figure executives running the non-profits.

      The latest extortion approach for overseas poor is the girl that can’t talk, but she screeches. If true, awful story, but how do we know? These rentseekers use her as a prop, then move on so they can earn their huge salaries.

A story I find myself inexorably entwined within … the Oakland Teachers Strike. aka … “Red for Ed” (hmmm, where’d the CTA get that slogan?). Yes, my lovely wife, who loves to teach … who loves the little natty-headed children she teaches … who loves the 25% of her kids who speak little if any English having just arrived from the steppes of Mongolia, Northern Africa, West Africa, East Africa, and Syria … is walking the picket line instead.       Ordinarily, I would have counseled her to ignore her IDIOT UNION’s call to strike. To be a polite scab, despite the bitter recriminations she would receive for doing so. But not this time. This time, I feel she must use her body as the proverbial sledgehammer thrown into the televised image of CA’s Big Brother (mostly Big Sistahs). To let the people of Oakland know that she’s mad as hell for a career spent educating the children of Oakland … only to have their parents vote for one incompetent School Board after another. One CORRUPT School Board after another. A current school board who are facing a $30M deficit this year, ballooning to $50M next year … on the heels of a $100M deficit 10 years ago which caused the State of CA to literally take-over the Oakland school district. A school board that is incapable of making the hard, cold, BUSINESS decisions that would allow them to PAY their teachers a fair wage. Such as closing schools in the face of declining enrollment.

      The Oakland Teachers, according to the neutral fact finder, are the third lowest paid Teachers out of a group of 12 comparable CA “urban” school districts. The retention rate of Teachers in the Oakland school district is worst in the State. 9 out of 10 teachers QUIT teaching in Oakland after just 3-years (in the worst of the schools). Yes, a 9% retention rate. 9%! The Oakland school district has Piss poor test scores and graduation rates (excepting my wife’s classroom). I don’t want to give any more clues as to where my wife teaches, or at what grade level, but trust me … HER kids do well, because she actually cares.

      So the school district is shit. The school board is shit. The UNION is shit. The city council is shit. The State politicians are shit. And the Oakland parents … the VOTERS who created this mess … are shit. Excuse my verbal shorthand. What I mean by “shit” is that they’re all economically-ignorant COMMUNISTS! Yes, the 97% of Oakland parents (at last count) who are holding their kids out of school in “support” of the Teachers … are THE idiots responsible for this constant mess. Hint: holding your kids out of school means the State is NOT paying the school district, which is counterproductive to your goals … uggggh. It has cost the District $1M/day in lost revenue because the parents are “supporting” the teachers. The Oakland residents who created this mess by VOTING for a School Board candidate’s “identity” over substance … have created this situation. And now, they’re making it worse by “supporting” the teachers.

      Yes, Kevin … FUCK em. Fuck em all to hell. The Oaktown residents are responsible for their own mess.

      But the political rhetoric is Epic! Kamala Harris Tweeted her support, as did just about every hip-hop, and ganstah-rap “artist” from Oakland. Golden State Warriors Golden boy, Steph Curry tweeted his “support” of the Oakland Teachers. And, any minute now, Michelle Obama will create a Boko-Haram hashtag for the Oakland teachers along with a weepy-face “shout-out”.

      My wife’s fabulous (sic) UNION is demanding: a 12% pay raise over 3-years. There ends their only logical, and reasonable demand. The neutral fact-finder suggested 9% (possibly more in year 3) wage increase over three years. The teachers have been working without a contract for more than a year. BUT … then the UNION demands smaller class sizes (more UNION teacher hires), more school Nurses (more UNION hires), more support staff (more UNION hires), and a total STOP to School closings (UNION hires retained). So, let’s recap … the UNION wants higher wages … and then wants to destroy any possible way to actually PAY for those wages.

      There was a bitter-fought election in 2018 for State Superintendent of schools. A pro-school choice candidate named Marshal Tuck had apparently WON … until vote harvesting suddenly found that he lost … after the election … to a nice young black UNIONISTA named; Tony Thurmond. Well, Tony Thurman has been “negotiating” with the School District … but I have yet to hear a single policy statement out of his mouth. Just empty rhetoric. OEA’s “Chaz” Garcia proudly organized a “march” to protest School closings. “Chaz”. Garcia. Enough said.

      And where is Gov. anytwosome Newsome? “He supports the teachers and hopes the district can resolve this issue”. Spare me. The supermajority Leftist State Government tallllllllkkkkhisssss about education and teachers and … the chilllllldren, but then does NOTHING to fund State education below the $six figure UC system. Gavin promises Universal FREE! healthcare, and FREE! stuff to all 15m and counting illegal border crossers.

      Every single cog in the machine responsible for my wife walking the picket line is broken and in need of replacement. The entire system is broke. My wife walks the picket line for her kids, for herself, for a return to sanity and good governance. She does NOT walk the line for the despicably DUMB UNION, or the politicians, or the residents and VOTERS of Oaktown. But actually, and truly, for the children. She walks the line as one of the FEW adults in the room.

    There is nothing new, the rich socialist would be dictators and totalitarians are richer than the kings and queens that were.

    Title-24: The most restrictive energy code in the nation, in the mildest climate of the nation. Not only costly building envelope (minimum insulation values), but high efficiency heating, cooling, and water heaters, HERS rating of ductwork, etc.

    CA PUC: The PUC has systematically allowed every CA utility; water, electricity, gas, sewer, and trash collection to both increase punishing tier-usage rates, and impose crushing “capacity” fees on new utility hookups. For example, many of my projects are required to pay as much as $250k in JUST “capacity fees” for their single family home. No, that’s not the “hookup” or “trenching” (all new utilities MUST be underground) fees .., that’s just for the privilege of hooking up to the utilities. Nevermind the fact that ALL the Utilities were originally designed to serve these pre-existing legal building parcels.

    Fire Sprinklers: Every new home and remodels that more than double the size of an existing home must provide Fire Sprinklers. This is true for a typical suburban home as well as homes in the wildlands. So your new remodel, will have fire sprinklers … while your entire neighborhood does not. Useless and costly.

    Over regulation by NIMBY governments: It is so difficult to gain planning approval in most CA coastal cities that just the planning approvals can add 15-20% of total project cost. And it takes months (sometime years) to gain this 1st step of building approvals. The cost of property “entitlements” is huge, and has squeezed-out all the “little guys” who lack the up front $$$ to secure planning approvals.

    seismic zone: Most of CA is in the most restrictive seismic zone in the entire world. This adds at least 20% to the cost of construction to install hold down anchors shear wall panels, steel brace frames, and foundations extending to bedrock (where it even exists). The codes and regulations governing this get more restrictive, and more expensive … every 3 years.

    Over officious building permit and inspection officials: It can take months to gain permit approvals as the plan checkers scrutinize every little detail beyond all necessity. Supremely detailed plans get picked to pieces by bureaucrats with power. The on-site inspections are even worse.

    The average citizen has NO IDEA how unnecessarily difficult it has become to build in CA. I am shocked to look at the low cost of brand new homes in very nice Dallas suburbs … that would literally cost 10x that in CA. The elites keep making the world more and more … elite … and wonder why the peasants are living in tents outside their Ring doorbell security systems begging for their “cake”
