Consumer Reports pulls the plug on Subsidy Fraud Boy’s car;
“When we look at the Model 3 lot of the issues are the electronics,” Jake Fisher, the senior director of automotive testing at Consumer Reports, told CNBC. “There are some issues replacing the (navigation/infotainment) screens, for instance, but we’ve seen other issues in terms of the trim breaking and the glass.”
Fisher noted that CR’s reliability metrics are based on long-term reports from vehicle owners as well as its own evaluations and vehicle crash performance. In this case, the feedback from owners has reflected general concerns about how well the Model 3 was assembled. Fisher also noted that even the test vehicle CR purchased (the company buys all of its cars) had a small stress fracture in one rear window.
Only a year behind the Tesla Owners Forum.

No matter the flaws, how overpriced the Tesla is, no matter any issue regarding his cars as not ready, efficient, or viable long term, there is one ugly “truth” that we have to realize.
Millenials, as naive as they are, see Musk as a genius, on an Einstein level. No kidding. I’ve had this discussion with a few of them. My point is that he’s a smart guy, and come a long ways. He’s largely getting it done, albeit with substantial flaws, and a company that will still very likely file Chapter 11, or be bought out by a major auto manufacturer to save it from insolvency. Try to explain to them that Henry Ford became successful by making a car that the average person could afford. So did Toyota, Datsun, Honda, Hyundai (the Pony POS!), but these companies wouldn’t be where they are today without mass consumption of their econoboxes!
Tesla makes luxury cars only……….one of these things doesnt go with the other………
Millenials? They get pissed when these things are said. He’s smarter than Steve Jobs. He’s going to the moon. Tesla’s are a success!
Memorable NPC moments!
The best use for a Tesla is getting cut up for scrap.
My view as well.
actually the Pony was a damn good little car, as long as you didn’t want it to be a Crapolac!!!
“…the Pony POS!…”
It wasn’t bad. It was about as inspired as a K-car but decent quality, easy and cheap to repair. There were many worse cars at that time (mainly big three products which were nearly uniformly crap).
They were crop dusters. Smoky gremlins that cruised the streets. They were cheap in more ways than one.
Re: Musk is a genius.
Is that why he designed and sold a toy flame thrower (that shoots real flames) right in the heat of the forest fire season??
Is that why he designed a car that has such a poor cabin heater in cold climates, some auto magazines recommend buying a snowmobile suit if you’re leaving for a winter trip from say, Winnipeg and headed for Calgary. Wait, that’s not all. The little bit of a cabin heater that it does have sucks so much energy from the batteries that it reduces driving distance drastically, to a point where the car sometimes has to be towed to the nearest charging station. Keeping in mind that in -10°C or colder weather, the batteries lose efficiency.
Hail Elon! Hail Elon!!
elon musk is the bernie madoff of the automobile industry . The Romanian people had the right answer for these types of trash .
Sounds like Tesla has made it to the amazing quality attained by my Fathers 1979 Chrysler New Yorker. It had features like roof leaks, voltage regulators that lasted 10,000 miles, intermittent radio, and windows that didn’t go up after going down.
That was the US Auto industry forty years ago. Is that Tesla today?
Thank goodness he didn’t build it in Britain, otherwise there would also be oil leaks. What is it about the British and oil seals?
Seems Musk has copied the electrical goblins that the Brits were known for!
You never did see British cars of any number in Canada. There used to be English bikes too but they wouldn’t run either.
We did in BC, on the coast. Lots of TR6 shtboxes, MGs etc. Rusty unreliable Brit castoffs.
Though, I have a soft spot for Sunbeam Tigers, a V8 in such a small car is invigorating, even if it might not stop, or burns its wiring.
scar, why do fools like you git on the net and prove you are3 a fool. English bikes, Triumph and Norton’s were pretty damn good, well except the Atlas. I know, I’v owned them.
Sunbeam Alpine !! Sadly, not the V8 Tiger … was James Bonds first car on film!!
https://autouniversum.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/alpine-i.jpg?w=584
Well … it’s kewl with Bond behind the wheel
Brings back memories of the Loucas Electrics system on a BSA bike I had in the 70’s. Rumor had it that their QC department was housed in the depths of a large, dark cavern.
Intermittent radio. I thought that was an option.
Switch on the radio and watch your range drop by 40mi. … and don’t even THINK of switching on the defogger … or the heater … or the heated seats … or roll down the power windows …
Yep … a LUXURY electric car … around town. To the market and back. Yep … alllllll those resources stripped from the earth, toxic materials, smelted ore into metals, industrial glass production … the fossil fuel power and heat to produce all those materials and the fossil fuel intensive factory assembly … so your trophy wife can signal her eco virtue, while hauling her housekeeper, Conchita to market. Yeah, real green. Real conservationist.
Tesla had been burning $4 billion per year but it actually made a profit in its last quarter. Things might be looking up.
Scar? Is that an anagram of /sarc?
You mean … if … Elon gets a giant cash infusion from some Saudi Sheik who is trying to purchase Tesla? Oops … can’t say such things if you are a CEO … and they aren’t true. Paid a GIANT $$ Fine to the SEC for that one … and lost his CEO position. The mythical ‘genius’ of Elon making an electric car that “looks” better than a Nissan Leaf is just STUPID. Whuoppeee! Hint: BMW, Mercedes, et. al. have already done it. And when will Elon’s “battery breakthrough” happen? It hasn’t … why? Chemistry and Physics. Battery’s are what they are. There are no magic elves, rainbows or unicorns gonna rewrite the laws of physics. But what do you expect from the wishful, hopeful, “progressive” practitioners of homeopathy? These are the same people who voted for a CA high speed train … with great enthusiasm! A train with no ROW and no feasible passage through the grapevine mountain range. A train that will NEVER develop its advertised “high speed” as it travels from Modesto to Clovis. CA voters are STUPID. They believe in “fantasy”, but have great difficulty with reality, facts, and science. How many $B’s have already been stuffed into the pocket of Di Fi’s husband? All “earned” on a fantasy. A fantasy fabricated by BIG Green and sold to the voters as “magical”. Cha-ching$$$.
But none of this matters … Tesla’s stock price will remain high as the “true believer” investors keep buying in. All the $$massive$$ CA Pension Funds will invest “socially responsibly” in MORE Tesla and keep the stock price propped-up. $Billions will eventually be lost by these pension funds when the SELL signal goes out from all the auto-trading programs.
Tesla is not built by a car company. I’ve worked on automotive electronics and the requirements are quite severe. They must work from -40C (at least) to +100C(depending upon location in the vehicle). My client wanted back-up atteries in the unit. My response: “Do you want it to work in Canada?”
He wouldn’t settle for being continually connected to the car battery and only enabled by the ignition, until HIS client said: “Only 23microAmps when OFF? That’s great!” In fact, it is much less than regular battery circuit leakage in a car.
Odd that they can’t assemble them using Automation, but must custom build the CARS… Custom building crap is the opposite of the expected perfection… If they can’t custom build… they never had anything…
BTW: Battery Charging is not a linear function….Lots of misinformation….Recycling Crap in the Future
JMHO
It appears as though Tesla’s QA/QC Dept. is building/re-building the cars … offline … scattered across the entire supply chain. Not. Good. NA/NC
Coincidently, when you look at that table aren;t you glad that Ogabe and Harper (with his hand admittedly twisted by Ogabe) bailed out Government Motors and sold Chrysler to Fiat?
After the ww2 there were an influx of British cars out west anyway. Hillman ,Anglia, Prefect, Vauxhall, Morris to name a few. They all had Lucas ignition and wouldnt start when it got cold. How the fighter planes with Lucas ignition ran in Britain with all that fog and damp weather always amazed me.
I read that Tesla Forum thread…there’s no WAY I’d buy a Tesla after reading that. It’s not the car’s fault, it’s the charger. No wait, it’s the temperature of the battery. It was raining? Well, there’s your problem. You are performing within spec. You are absolutely NOT performing within spec. You are unreasonable to expect what Tesla advertises. It’s your fault.
The blind trying to kick the other blind guys cane.. Funny reading/worth reading.. Like trying to fly a balsa rubber band driven model.. Move the wing here, move the wing there,
And yet the EPA’s OFFICIAL government Tesla Model 3 range is over 300mi. With nary a mention of any pesky drain of the battery from common use
https://insideevs.com/breaking-tesla-model-3-long-range-official-epa-rating/
It’s all political nonsense. Inflated numbers to further prop-up a LIMITED USE automobile. Green science isn’t science … it’s myth. The government is LYING to you … to PUSH e-vehicles.
Yeah, subsidies for millionaires, to buy cars only millionaires can afford. Cars that millionaires can buy 3 of for each day of the week. Because you need 3 teslas a day, with 3 drivers waiting at checkpoints, to get a millionaire’s ass across a few states in a single day.
Or a private jet.
In 20 years the only vehicle you’ll be able to buy in BC is an electric one. According to the NDP anyway.
If they are in power for 20 more years, there will be nothing left resembling a functioning economy but instead a post apocalyptic nightmare resembling Mad Max.
Alberta Car Dealers will be VERY happy with that outcome! To a lesser extent, importing from the US will be a growth industry too.
Ah, the NDP, job and revenue killers extraordinaire. They never learn…..
I saw a Tesla directly in front of me when I was driving a few days ago. And it wasn’t even on fire.
Felon arrested after pursuit when stolen Tesla batteries die
RIVERSIDE — A probationer who led Riverside police officers on a dangerous, high-speed pursuit in a luxury electric sports car was arrested after the plug-in car’s batteries died Sunday night, Feb. 17. The pursuit, which wound its way from Riverside’s Eastside neighborhood into Orange County, ended in a felony stop on the 91 Freeway.
